Tuesday, May 30 9:30 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. Auxiliary Event Loc: Hampton Room Expert Panel: Expanding Health Service Access, Quality, and Equity in Developing Countries: The Role of the Private Sector Join representatives from USAID, the Center for Global Development, KfW, the World Bank, Abt Associates, Boston University CIHD, Population Services International and the Gates Foundation as they discuss options to ensure quality of and access to private health services in the developing world. Perspectives on the private sector Wednesday, May 31 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Auxiliary Event Loc: Congressional Room A Health & Child Survival Fellows Program The Health and Child Survival Fellows Program prepares junior and mid-career health professionals for international careers through two-year practice-oriented assignments with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) or other similar agencies. Current and former fellows will discuss their fellowship experience. Questions concerning the program will be addressed. Thursday, June 1 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Plenary Session Loc: Regency Ballroom Global Architecture of Health Aid: Achieving Maximum Impact and Effectiveness Kent R. Hill, Ph.D., Assistant Administrator Bureau for Global Health, USAID Dr. Hill will speak on the intersection of multilateral and bilateral aid, the U.S. position on its role in partnering with existing mechanisms, and the future directions of U.S. foreign assistance. Thursday, June 1 Women's Health Roundtable Presenters 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Loc:Ambassador Ballroom Birth Spacing and Newborn and Maternal Health: Achieving Healthy Pregnancy Outcomes Table 21 | Maureen Norton, Ph.D., USAID Participants will learn about new findings from a systematic literature review and meta-analysis on perinatal and maternal health. Maureen Norton is a Senior Technical Advisor in Reproductive Health and Family Planning in the Bureau for Global Health, Office of Population and Reproductive Health, Service Delivery Improvement Division, USAID/Washington. Friday, June 2 Panel Presentation 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Loc: Cabinet Room D3: Delivering the Goods: Coordinating Efforts to Meet Reproductive Health Supply Needs Presenters discuss the links between reproductive health supply pricing and access (Nicaragua, Nepal); the adaptive approaches taken by the Supply Initiative, a collaborative partnership dedicated to addressing the global shortage of reproductive health supplies; the challenges of enhancing donor commitments and raising awareness of reproductive health supply issues (global); using the RHInterchange, a Web-based tool to capture donor-supplied contraceptive procurements (global); and the issues and processes involved in establishing the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition, a global health partnership of key stakeholders (global). Presenters: Terri Bartlett Jane Hutchings Margaret Neuse, MPH, USAID Mimi Whitehouse Abstract Title: The Supply Initiative: Meeting the Challenge Through the Establishment of a Coalition Margaret A. Neuse, Director, Office of Population and Reproductive Health, Bureau for Global Health, USAID. Margaret has more than 20 years of experience in international health and family planning programming. Friday, June 2 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Panel Presentation Loc: Congressional Room E4:The Case for Zinc: Implementing Improvements in the Management of Childhood Diarrhea Presenters discuss the benefit of zinc supplementation with oral rehydration therapy during and after diarrhea in children (Bangladesh); the challenges of introducing a new product (in this case, zinc) into a program and the regulatory implications when launching large-scale programs (global); and the quality issues that need to be addressed with regard to the introduction of zinc into diarrheal disease programs (global). Presenters: Robert Black Patricia Paredes, MD, MSC, DrPH; USAID Abdelkrim Smine Abstract Title: Zinc Supplementation in the Management of Childhood Diarrhea Dr. Paredes is a Senior Technical Advisor for Technology Development and Introduction at the United States Agency for International Development Bureau for Global Health, Office of Health, Infectious Diseases and Nutrition (USAID/GH/HIDN).
