Motor Cycle Industry Says Stay Safe on the Roads and Cut the Christmas
Booze
The MCI (www.mcia.co.uk) is calling on riders to cut their Christmas drinking if they are
planning to ride.
(Vocus) December 17, 2010 -- The Motor Cycle Industry Association (MCI) is calling on riders to cut their
Christmas drinking if they are planning to ride. The latest analysis of drink-drive statistics show that in 2008, of
the motorcycle riders tested following an accident, 1.4 per cent failed a breathalyzer test compared to an average
of 2.7 per cent for all road user casualties as a whole .

Although motorcyclists are half as likely as car riders to take the risk of drinking and driving, the Christmas
season marks the time of year when people are more likely to indulge in a couple of extra drinks.

Young riders in particular are most likely to drink and ride. Motorcyclists aged between 20 and 24 were most
likely to fail a breath test, with 2.4 per cent of tests taken by riders in this age band positive for alcohol. However,
this figure is still less than half that of the average for all road users between 20 and 24, of whom 5 per cent gave
a breath test positive for alcohol.

The MCI advises:

 • Never drink any amount of alcohol if you’re riding. You don’t have to be over the limit for your skills to be
impaired.
 • Never drink late at night if you’re riding early the next morning. If you get caught out later than you thought,
take alternative transport or go pillion next morning.
 • Don’t let mates drink and ride.
 • Don’t buy a drink for anyone if you know they are planning to ride

Steve Kenward, MCIs, CEO commented, “ The party season is upon us. The only sensible message is don’t drink
and ride. Drinking, drugs and motorcycle riding don’t mix at any time in the year but be especially careful during
this season of good cheer and increased temptation.

“Bear in mind that alcohol can stay in your system well into the next day, so if you were drinking the night
before you might also want to avoid riding in the early part of the next day.”

Paul Simon Home Furnishings Chain Announces "No Vat Increase"
Paul Simon, one of England’s leading home furnishing stores, has vowed to keep VAT on their
products at the current rate of 17.5% until further notice. This news comes as the rest of the UK
prepares for the 2.5% VAT increase on January 4th 2011.
(PRWEB) December 17, 2010 -- A large UK home furnishings chain today has announced that they will NOT be
increasing VAT on their products come the new year.

Paul Simon, one of England’s leading home furnishing stores, has vowed to keep VAT on their products at the
current rate of 17.5% until further notice. This news comes as the rest of the UK prepares for the 2.5% VAT
increase on January 4th 2011.

Paul Ludwin, Managing Director of the chain, said: “We are very excited about retaining the VAT rate at 17.5%.
With economic times as tough as they are, we want to continue to offer our customers competitive prices and
excellent value for money.”

“The VAT increase will hit customers at what is an already difficult time; post-Christmas. Money is notoriously
tight for consumers in the new year and we hope that our commitment to keep VAT at 17.5% rather than raising it
to 20% will ease their pockets somewhat.”

To date, Paul Simon operates 50 stores in England and is set to open their 51st this week in Hayes, Uxbridge.

The brand new store will open this Friday (17th December 2010) at 9am in the Hayes Bridge Retail Park and will
be marked by a Grand Opening Sale offering up to 65% off selected items throughout the store, including curtains
, beds and mattresses.

Despite being amidst what is being called “the worst recession since the 1930s” Paul Simon has continued to
thrive; in the past year, the company has seen both web traffic and overall sales treble.

Mr Ludwin said of the chain’s continuing success: “As a company, the fact that we are able to expand and
continue to open new stores in the middle of this economic catastrophe is a great sign. Rather than being cautious
and cutting down on our range we are fighting the recession with fire and adding new products and lines
constantly. It has always been our priority to offer our customers choice and variety and that is what we will
continue to do.”

Since their launch in 1990, Paul Simon stores have specialised in offering an extensive range of curtains at low
cost prices. Having won awards in this sector, they have become known as one of England’s number one curtain
retailers. Over time the chain has expanded its product range to include blinds, tracks, poles, beds, rugs, furniture
and linen.

Uk Travellers’ Costs Set to Rise In 2011
The Post Office advises of ways to cut travel credit card costs with holiday price increases on the
horizon
According to recent research from the Mintel British Lifestyles Report (1) , steeper holiday prices may impact on
the UK travel sector as its research shows that the cost of budget flights is expected to rise from January.

The Post Office reminds holidaymakers who may be concerned about higher travel prices that by planning on
their holiday spend, that they could save on typical holiday costs, particularly by shopping around for the best
value travel credit card.

The Post Office suggests that UK holidaymakers prepare for a holiday by making sure they have a good deal on
their travel credit card before setting off. For example, the Post Office has removed the standard 2.5% cash
advance fee for its customers when they purchase foreign currency using their Post Office travel credit card either
online or in branch, which could save travelers a considerable amount from their travel money budgets.

Furthermore, to help holidaymakers keep costs down, the Post Office travel credit card is one of few travel credit
cards to offer 0% commission on overseas purchases. The Post Office also offers travel credit card customers 0%
on balance transfers for the first 12 months and 0% on new purchases for the first three months. These travel
credit card features could help UK holidaymakers to avoid additional charges typically levied by other travel
credit card providers, and help holiday spending stretch further for overseas travellers.

Many UK Travellers Unaware of Travel Credit Card Fees
The Post Office advises holidaymakers to shop around for a suitable travel credit card before
departure
(Vocus) December 18, 2010 -- Some 29 per cent of people who took a holiday in the last 12 months used their
travel credit card while abroad, with 12 per cent of them using a travel credit card to withdraw cash from an
overseas a, ATM according to recent research from Mintel(1).

Meanwhile research from the Post Office, which looked further into UK holidaymakers’ travel credit card use,
highlights that among those people using travel credit cards abroad, some 30 per cent do not know what fees they
may be charged for doing so, and a further 16 per cent simply don’t know if they will be charged a fee for using
their travel credit card abroad(2) .

The Post Office is therefore advising travellers on how to avoid costly charges when using a travel credit card
abroad. For example shopping around in advance for a good value travel credit card which does not charge for
overseas purchases.

The Post Office research also reveals that 81 per cent of those travellers planning to use a travel credit card
abroad do so for convenience. Thus to make travel credit cards a more appealing option for holidaymakers, the
Post Office offers a travel credit card which boasts 0% commission on purchases overseas and no cash advance
fee when purchasing Post Office travel money using the travel credit card.

Sending Money Abroad to Cover Unexpected Maintenance Fees Can Cost
Overseas Property Owners Dear
Post Office International Payments offers commission-free overseas bank transfer service
(Vocus) December 18, 2010 -- Two-thirds (65 per cent) of overseas property owners occasionally transfer money
from sterling into local currency, with a further quarter (26 per cent) regularly sending money abroad to maintain
their home, according to new research from Post Office International Payments.

As a result, holiday home owners using banks for a foreign money transfer are being repeatedly hit by transfer
charges. Sending money abroad can cost as much as £42.50 per transaction using some banks, while making an
international bank transfer to cover an urgent or unplanned transaction can cost even more.

Council tax, cleaners and gardeners all contribute to the unexpected maintenance costs overseas homeowners
face, so Post Office International Payments is reminding consumers to shop around for a good deal on their
foreign money transfers so they can keep costs to a minimum when sending money abroad.

Sarah Munro, Post Office Head of International Payments, said: “Just like buying a home in the UK, buying an
overseas property comes with a variety of costs, other than just the initial purchase price.

“Services such as the Post Office’s International Payments allow customers to move money abroad without
transfer fees or commission charges and its regular payment facility removes the hassle of having to make repeat
transactions.”

It is vital for overseas homeowners to research their foreign money transfer service in advance to ensure they are
not being charged when sending money abroad.

Plogging smart homes on Facebook
Researchers integrate Plogg appliance meters in Social Network Sites
(PRWEB) December 16, 2010 -- Energy Optimizers Limited (EOL) has provided researchers at the University of
Cyprus with its plug-in electricity meter for integration of whole house and appliance monitoring (110~220VAC)
in social network sites (SNS).

The plogg is a combined smart meter plug and data logger, based on Ember’s EM357 ZigBee wireless
technology running on a Telegesis module. It can be attached to any mains supply that uses a standard NEMA
5-15 North American plug and can monitor single 110VAC appliances and 2-phase 220VAC load on the
distribution panel through the installation of connected split core transformers. The plogg stores the measured
electricity data and communicates this information through a PC, an embedded web server or a gateway to a
user’s SNS. The University of Cyprus has developed web based application programming interfaces (API) for the
ploggs that provide functionality through Facebook.

“Future Smart Homes will consist of information appliances that offer advanced capabilities to home residents”
write Kamilaris and Pitsillides “We penetrate deeply into social networking infrastructures, fully leveraging their
software mechanisms in order to enable our vision of a Smart home with a social shape.”

The pervasive nature of the Smart Home and web enabled devices is made coherent through the user’s online
experience. Future work will examine how the Smart Home is transformed into an interoperable shared space that
interacts with the inhabitants. Elsewhere, the plogg is being deployed in the design of demand response programs
in the USA and Canada and in Europe, in projects to evaluate Assisted Living systems and the efficiency of Smart
Appliances.

How Much is That Doggy…in the Harvey Nichols Window?
Today Harvey Nichols reveals its ‘tongue-in-chic’ Christmas video.
(PRWeb UK) December 16, 2010 -- Forget killer heels, ‘it’ bags and statement jewellery, the must-have
accessories this Christmas are canine, with Harvey Nichols gift-wrapped Pugs, Chihuahuas and Cavapoos! As
Harvey Nichols always stocks the hottest and most desirable items, it would appear these must have accessories
are coming to a Harvey Nichols store near you...

However, as one would expect from Harvey Nichols advertising, don’t believe everything you see…

Entitled ‘Not just for Christmas’, the video is a humorous send up of the fashionistas who don’t just accessorise
their dogs, they use the dogs to accessorise themselves. Set in the Harvey Nichols flagship Knightsbridge store,
the satire plays on the ‘Paris Hilton’ pampered pooch trend that we have seen explode in the celebrity world over
the last few years, especially in LA.

During the fantasy sketch we play on the idea of a pooch being the ultimate fashion accessory. And whether it be
this season’s ‘it’ bag, modelled with Chihuahua, or a fiery red head picking out her perfect Cavalier King Charles
‘accessory’ to complement her red mane, this years’ Christmas definitely comes wrapped up in a Harvey Nichols
Christmas bow!

Julia Bowe, Marketing Communications Director at Harvey Nichols, comments, “We wanted to create a feel
good Christmas message which pokes fun at the absurd lengths to which some fashionistas will go to, even using
dogs as an accessory to their outfits. During filming the dogs had a great time and so did we.”
The video will also be hosted on the Harvey Nichols site and Harvey Nichols YouTube channel

 Notes to Editor:
Harvey Nichols does not sell animals of any sort in their stores and they do not condone the buying of giving of a
dog as a gift, like a bag or accessory.
During the production of this film there was a vet present and on hand to approve all scenes. A professional
handler sourced the dogs and was also present to ensure all the dogs were happy, safe and not put in any distress.

New Online Store Offering Contract Trade-Only Hotel Beds and Furniture
December 2010 has seen the launch of Hotel Contract Beds, a new trade-only contract hotel bed
and guest accommodation furniture store. The website offers a wide selection of Crib 5 and Crib
7 guest accommodation furniture, including a complete bespoke build service available to all
customers. In addition to their customisation service, Hotel Contract Beds are also offering free
delivery on all UK mainland orders.
(PRWEB) December 15, 2010 -- Hotel Contract Beds is the UK’s newest online contract bed and furniture store,
launched during the second week of December 2010. Hotel Contract Beds manufactures and supplies Crib 5 and
Crib 7 contract beds, mattresses and hospitality furniture at competitive prices, offering up to 60% off the
recommended retail prices of many of its products.

Since the launch, Hotel Contract Beds is keen to market what it believes to be its unique selling points – a
complete and comprehensive custom build service, and an all-inclusive no minimum order quantity policy as well
as a free delivery service on all orders.

 The online catalogue of products extends beyond a comprehensive range of contract mattresses and bed frames;
in addition to their range of top quality hotel pocket sprung mattresses, care home waterproof mattresses, versatile
zip & link beds, budget student mattresses and metal bed frames, Hotel Contract Beds also offers a range of
luxury sofabeds, upholstered chairs and reception furniture.

Sales Manager Jamie Welch believes that this ‘holistic’ approach renders Hotel Contract Beds as a
‘one-stop-shop’ for many guest accommodation and hospitality service providers,

“These days, many hotels offer more than just rooms for hotel beds – they are also venues for corporate events,
conferences, weddings and parties. At Hotel Contract Beds, we decided it would be apt to provide an extended
catalogue of products that would cater for all of these services and eventualities. This means that all contract
furniture can be sourced from one supplier, a move that will most likely prove time and cost-efficient for all of
our customers.”

Hotel Contract Beds’ ability to provide completely customised furniture seems to be attracting a great deal of
interest - despite the site only being live for a matter of days - with a significant number of enquiries regarding
bespoke contract divans already received. The bespoke build service allows customers to stipulate their own
product dimensions and is available on both individual and bulk orders. The bespoke service is also inclusive of
fabric upholstery choices; Hotel Contract Beds not only offers a broad selection of fabrics, but also provides
customers with the option of specifying their own custom fabric choice if required.

In addition, the no minimum order quantity policy means that all customers can benefit from the free UK
delivery weekly delivery service.

                                                                      Page 28/142

Mr Welch is also encouraged by the first week of sales, and is poised for great success in 2011,

“Based on the sales that have been generated in the first week of trading, I have every confidence that through the
new website, Hotel Contract Beds will become a leading UK supplier and manufacturer of contract beds and
contract furniture. With the advent of major events such as a Royal Wedding, and the Olympics within the next
two years, it should prove a prolific period for us as a contract furniture business, as well as the guest
accommodation industry as a whole. Based on our unique selling points of a complete customised build service
and our no minimum order quantity policy, I am certain that our new business is well-placed to make a significant
impact in its field.”

The Hotel Contract Beds website can be found at http://www.hotelcontractbeds.co.uk with customer enquiries
directed to 0845 467 5847.

Bleak Winter Weather Outlook Sparks Interest in Warm Footwear at
Onshoes.com
A prolonged spell of icy weather with a new cold front expected this week has seen shoppers turn
to buy shoes online rather than brave the cold high street.
(PRWEB) December 15, 2010 -- The atypically cold spell which arrived late November gripped the country for
close to two weeks, with many parts of the UK cut off as early season snow blanketed much of the country. The
prolonged cold snap has now eased with a return to normality enjoyed by much of the county, which has been
enough to see a frantic Christmas shopping spree at high streets and retail outlets up and down the country.

The delay to Christmas shopping and the current respite from the cold has made high streets a nightmare for the
shopper, and with today’s forecast for a return to the same icy and bitterly cold weather as soon as this Thursday,
the rush at the shops has become unbearable. Predictions of plunging temperatures are expected to see parts of the
UK reach -10ºC and are expected to see many people staying indoors, leaving Christmas shopping to the last
minute or rushing out this week to brave the crowds before the country freezes up once more.

Whilst shopping becomes unpleasant with the cold and the crowds, Onshoes.com offers the chance to pick up
Christmas presents and find the best bargains on footwear without having to venture outdoors. The website has
been enjoying a surge in popularity, with its pages dedicated to warm winter boots attracting the most visitors as
the nation turns to the internet to order both presents and warm winter wear to cope with the arctic conditions.
Shopping on-line for footwear is becoming increasingly popular, as finding the right shoes at the right price in
high street stores can be a difficult task. The current conditions and busy shops makes internet shopping much
more attractive, removing the need to brave the weather, queues, and car parks to find stores depleted of stock.
The current conditions appear to have seen many high street shoppers make the switch to the internet, with
onshoes.com certainly benefiting.

Whilst internet shopping for shoes used to be fraught with difficulty, at onshoes.com shoe shopping has been
made much easier. The site offers details of the most fashionable and most comfortable winter boots, with a range
not to be found in high street stores. The site covers the brands and the models in detail, with price comparisons of
the cheapest online deals to save all important money for the Christmas festivities. The current cold spell has seen
visitors and referrals soar, with snow boots, Ugg boots and Merrell cold weather walking shoes attracting the most
interest.

The website was set up to provide the latest news on footwear, celebrity led footwear trends and most popular
styles and brands. With the current run of cold weather keeping many shoppers housebound, the site has provided
an excellent way to shop for Christmas and to get the best quality footwear to cope with the cold and icy
conditions.

To read the latest news on fashionable footwear and details of the best prices on warm winter boots visit
onshoes.com.

Last-Minute Shoppers: 'Gift An App' For iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, In Seconds
With Fotopedia This Holiday Season
Brand-new Fotopedia National Parks App Evolves Concept with In-App Gifting; Gifters Need
Only Recipient’s Email Address
(PRWEB) December 15, 2010 -- Last-minute shoppers rejoice: ‘Gifting an App’ to proud owners (or
owners-to-be) of an iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch is as hassle-free as it is easy on the pocketbook. Adding to the
simplicity, Fotonauts Inc., creator of Fotopedia.com and publisher of Apple Hall of Fame app Fotopedia Heritage,
announced today that its brand-new app, Fotopedia National Parks, brings ‘In-app Gifting’ to the marketplace.

iPads and iPhones are destined to keep spirits bright this year, but consumers should also realize that they must
be filled with apps in order to complete the experience. That’s why gifting an app is not only fun, but practical.

Fotopedia National Parks: Inspiring App for all Ages, with New ‘In-app Gifting’
Launched just yesterday, Fotopedia National Parks has further simplified the gifting experience for the iPad,
iPhone or iPod Touch. With the new ‘In-app Gifting’, users of the popular app can select ‘Gift this App’ directly
from the app’s home page and well as through the sharing menu anywhere in the app.

“In-app gifting enables app fans to easily pay the joy forward,” said Christophe Daligault, SVP Global Business,
Fotonauts Inc. “With an overwhelming selection of apps out there right now, it’s becoming increasingly important
for consumers to rely on their friends, family and workmates to share apps that are useful and inspiring. That’s
why we created in-app gifting.”

The app features the work of famed photographer Quang-Tuan Luong, who used large format photography
throughout his 10-year journey across the 58 US National Parks. Keeping the photograph front-and-center, while
including all of the popular Fotopedia features, this is an app for all ages, a family-friendly digital gift this holiday
season.

5 Easy Steps to ‘In-app Gifting’
 1. Launch the Fotopedia National Parks app
 2. Click on the "Gift this Application" button on the home page of the app or select “Gift this Application” from
the sharing menu
 3. Enter your iTunes ID and password
 4. Enter the gift recipient's name, email address, and a personal message
 5. Confirm to purchase

The recipient immediately receives an email with a clickable button for downloading the gifted app at no charge.

Gifting to more than one person at a time is possible (simply add additional email addresses). Additionally, the
recipient must use the same country version of iTunes or the App Store that the sender uses.

Fed up UK Motorists Call for Harsher Penalties for Uninsured Drivers
Motorists call for fines of £900 for uninsured drivers.
Birmingham, UK (PRWEB) December 13th, 2010 -- Research* from Direct Line has revealed that fed up UK
motorists want to see fines of around £900 for those caught driving uninsured. This is over four times more than
the current fine of £200** and 18 times more than the new proposed fine of £50.

Fines aren't the only thing motorists want to see increased; 34 per cent want those caught driving uninsured to
have to take their driving test again and 28 per cent want a life ban for those caught.

Not only do motorists want larger fines and harsher sentences, 77 per cent of them would like an uninsured
drivers' hotline or website, where they could 'shop' someone they know is driving uninsured.

Andy Goldby, Director of Motor Underwriting at Direct Line, said: "Direct Line fully supports what the UK's fed
up motorists want. Those responsible drivers who insure their cars have had enough of the additional £30 on their
premiums that these uninsured drivers cost them. They want harsher penalties, larger fines and a hotline to give
information on those driving uninsured - though most of all they want decisive action.

"Uninsured drivers put a huge cost on society and the UK motorist has had enough. A £900 fine is more than the
average car insurance premium and would act as a real deterrent to those who wish to drive uninsured."

Direct Line is calling for a policy rethink after proposed new fine levels for uninsured drivers could be as little as
£50.

Whilst a fine of £100 will be issued initially, if paid promptly it reduces to £50 and is unlikely to deter the
persistent uninsured driver. The new proposed fines stand in stark contrast to the maximum penalties for a range
of lesser perceived misdemeanours such as;

 • Failure to pay your TV licence fee: £1,000
 • Smoking in a smoke-free place: £200
 • Conviction for graffiti: £5,000
 • Fare evasion on London buses: £1,000
 • Overfilling your bin: £110
Direct Line was the first, and still is one of the few insurers to offer as standard, a nil excess and maintain its
customer's No Claims Discount if they are hit by an uninsured driver. With uninsured drivers already adding
around £30 to everyone's insurance premium, drivers shouldn't have to pay even more if they are hit by an
uninsured driver.

Facts about uninsured drivers***
• 23,000 people are injured and 160 are killed every year by uninsured drivers
• In 2009, 164,000 people were convicted for driving without insurance - that is one conviction every three
minutes
                                                                      Page 46/142

 • The cost of uninsured motoring in the UK is estimated to be around £500 million. The MIB charges a levy on
all motor insurance companies to help fund the cost of uninsured driving in the UK. That amounts to £30 for each
law abiding driver in their annual motor premium.
 • Police report that 180,000 vehicles were seized in 2009, taking the total to more than 600,000 since laws were
introduced in 2005

Are You Fully Prepared for a Break on the Slopes?
Direct Line warns UK winter sports fans to make sure they have sufficient cover before setting off
to the airport
Birmingham, UK (PRWEB) December 13, 2010 -- With over 1.1 million people from the UK expected to take
part in winter sports this year*, travel, home and car insurance specialist Direct Line warns travellers who aim to
save money by going uninsured, they could be in for a shock if they have an accident.

A common injury on the slopes, such as a lower limb fracture, would result in private clinic surgery costs of up to
£5,000. Additionally there could be a further £2,000 in costs for helicopter mountain rescue. Wrist, knee and
lower limb damage are the most common injuries seen on the slopes with average medical costs ranging from
£750 - £1,500**.

Annette Fox, spokesperson for Direct Line travel insurance, says: "People need to be more aware of the costs
associated with winter sports when the worst happens. With enthusiasts becoming more adventurous on the
slopes, it is important they have winter sports and medical expenses insurance cover, for whatever type of activity
they plan to do."

The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), formally know as the E111, is essential when travelling in Europe
as it gives access to healthcare. However, it is not a travel insurance replacement and may not cover all that could
be required, such as long-term treatment. Even less severe cases, such as having a broken leg may result in
medical repatriation becoming necessary as airlines may not be able to fully accommodate the injured with the
extra room required. This would result in further costs which can run into thousands of pounds and is not covered
by the EHIC.

Direct Line travel insurance policies will cover a flight to get a patient back home or, if necessary, fly them to the
nearest suitable medical facility for emergency treatment, before arranging a homeward journey.

Travellers should be aware that there are other elements of medical care that could be required, resulting in
further costs. For example, an intensive care ambulance used for medical repatriation for serious cases such as
head injuries can cost, on average, up to £10,000 from Geneva to London. It's even more important for those
taking part in winter sports outside of Europe to ensure they have adequate cover, as a serious accident could see
costs reach £45,000 for an air ambulance from Calgary (Canada) to London.

Green Flag's Winter Weather Driving Advice
If you must use the roads during adverse weather conditions, be sure to take Green Flag's safe
driving tips into account.
Birmingham, UK (PRWEB) December 13th, 2010 -- Following the Met Office's warning of further snow across
the UK over the coming days, Green Flag is advising motorists to ensure that they are fully prepared for the
forecast winter weather.

Neil Wilson, head of rescue operations at Green Flag, comments, "We advise motorists to avoid all non-essential
travel if the winter weather causes hazardous driving conditions. However, if you do have to drive in snow or icy
conditions, make sure you allow extra time for your journey, take your time on the roads and ensure you have
warm clothing and a mobile phone in case you breakdown or get stuck in the snow.

"From experience we know that the number of calls for rescue assistance can double in wintry conditions, so we
monitor weather forecasts in advance and draft in extra staff both on the roads and on the phones to handle
emergencies. If you haven't got breakdown cover and you need help, do still give us a call as 'instant cover' is
always available."

For those motorists who must use the roads, Green Flag has some top tips for driving in hazardous weather
conditions:
 • Use the defroster and windshield wipers for better visibility. Ensure the blades are in good condition, with no
splits, de-ice the screen completely and ensure the blades are not frozen to the screen before operating. Failure to
do so may result in the protective fuse blowing. It is also worth adding an anti-freeze inhibitor to the screen wash
fluid container
 • Once on the road, check your speed and turn slowly, even if the roads have been gritted
 • Give more warning than usual to other drivers when turning, stopping or changing lane
 • Keep plenty of distance between cars. You never know when you'll hit an icy spot. If you pass the same
landmarks as the car in front of you within three seconds, you are following too closely
 • Pump the brakes slowly and gently if your car does not have anti-lock brakes. Constant pressure can cause them
to lock and skid
 • Be extra wary of black ice - it is an invisible danger that can catch out the most careful driver
 • Approach corners at a steady speed, in as low a gear as possible. Don't touch the clutch unless it is absolutely
necessary, steer smoothly and avoid braking on the bends

Kroll Ontrack Announces Seventh Annual Top Ten List of Data Disasters
A light-hearted look at data disasters suffered over the past 12 months.
Epsom, UK (PRWEB) December 13, 2010 -- Kroll Ontrack, the leading provider of data recovery, information
management and legal technology products and services, has announced its light-hearted look at the top ten data
disasters from 2010.

"Data loss situations continue to run the gamut in terms of when, where and how they happen, and the causes of
loss can greatly vary. While every data loss situation is different, an experienced data recovery provider with the
right tools, techniques and expertise can help ensure as much critical data as possible is recovered," said Robert
Winter, chief engineer, Ontrack Data Recovery, Kroll Ontrack. "With cutting-edge hard drive recovery tools and
processes backed by 25 years of experience in recovering data from media that are severely physically damaged,
Ontrack Data Recovery engineers have recovered customers' data following some of this year's worst disasters."

2010 Top Ten List of Data Disasters Compiled by Kroll Ontrack

 10. A square peg in a round hole
When a computer novice's laptop battery died, he reached behind his desk, grabbed what he thought was the
laptop charger and shoved the power cable into his laptop. Unfortunately, it was a power cord for a different
device, and he fried his machine.

 9. Double data recovery
A customer required the restoration of several archived tapes, and the Kroll Ontrack Tape Services team
promptly restored the data and returned it on six external HDDs. The customer backed-up the data on six
additional HDDs and stored the original HDDs in a fireproof safe. They started to use the data they needed from
the backup HDDs, but somebody had accidentally overwritten some of the data. "Not to worry!" they thought.
"We can simply use the Kroll Ontrack HDDs!" However, when these HDDs were connected, they discovered that
rather than copying the data, they had actually moved the data, and there was nothing on the HDDs. Thankfully,
Kroll Ontrack still had the original tapes and recovered the entire data for the second time.

 8. Keeping a family member's memory alive
A woman visiting her father to assist with his medical treatments became the victim of a thief, who entered the
hospital room where the visitor had her belongings and stole a laptop that once belonged to the woman's daughter.
Sadly, the woman visitor had recently lost her daughter to cancer. News of the crime hit the airwaves immediately
leading to a speedy arrest and recovery of the stolen laptop. However, the hard disk had been wiped. Kroll
Ontrack contacted the family to assist and was able to recover 90 percent of the family's only photos of their
daughter.

 7. Meat the experts
A hard drive recently arrived for Ontrack Data Recovery from a butcher shop packed in Styrofoam, mysteriously
together with the remnants of a cured ham. After a thorough degreasing of the case, the hard drive was sent to the
cleanroom with suspected mechanical failure. Thankfully, all the data was recovered, partly due to the fact that
                                                                      Page 55/142

the client had followed Ontrack Data Recovery expert advice to preserve the drive in its found state and
adequately protect the drive in transit. The presence of the ham remains an enigma.

 6. Up in the air
A frequent traveller was enjoying an espresso while waiting for a plane home. He put his laptop case on the floor
at the espresso bar and forgot to collect it. The airport police were notified of the unattended luggage, and while
the traveller was on his plane, the laptop was detonated to ensure it was not a security threat.

 5. Buckle up
A businesswoman, late for work, placed her briefcase on her car roof while she secured her coffee in her cup
holder and her child in his car seat. Anxious to get on the road, the woman buckled up and quickly backed out of
her garage, sending her briefcase, with laptop inside, soaring off the roof just in time for the front wheels to crush
it.

 4. Laptop litter box
A woman left her Mac charging on the floor of her house for a few hours. She returned to discover a liquid on the
keyboard and a sheepish kitten playing in the corner.

 3. Advocate for Africa
A man quit his job to fulfill his lifelong dream of travelling to Africa to photograph poverty. After spending
several months taking pictures, he moved back home to develop and sell the photos to businesses, bringing focus
to the need for human aid in Africa. Unfortunately, an apartment fire erupted, but luckily the fireman managed to
grab the computer before it was charred. While rushing down the fire ladder, the computer was dropped. Despite
two devastating accidents, Ontrack Data Recovery engineers recovered 100 percent of the photos.

 2. The ants go marching in
A flood in Europe resulted in a computer being submerged in river and rain water for more than two days. The
flood water was not the drive's only problem. When the drive arrived at the Ontrack Data Recovery cleanroom, an
ant, who tried to escape drowning in the flood, was found hanging from the head of the drive. Rigorous
cleanroom techniques resulted in a recovery of most of the drive's data; however, the ant could not be saved.

 1. Laptops are not waterproof
Relaxing on a beach, a gentleman had taken his laptop on his holiday to stay up-to-date on e-mails. When the
midday temperatures started to soar, he decided to go for a swim. Wary of leaving his laptop unattended, he
popped it into a plastic bag so it would not get wet and went for a dip - laptop and all. The bag did not prove as
durable as he hoped: the laptop got soaked and he lost his data.

How to Avoid the Gift Buying Ghosts of Christmas’s Past
Big Fat Balloons has identified a number of Christmas Gift Buying Ghosts that haunt shoppers
throughout the festive period. The online helium balloon and gift site has named and shamed
these ghosts and provided a wealth of advice on ways to avoid them during the Christmas season.
From deciding what to do with the Ghost of Indecision to avoiding the Ghost of Nightmare
Credit Card Bills at all costs, you’ll find a host of festive hints and tips that will lay these ghosts
to rest.
(PRWEB) December 13, 2010 -- According to Big Fat Balloons, the online balloons, teddy bears and chocolates
store, Christmas shoppers often find themselves plagued by the ghosts of Christmas’s past.

In an attempt to help shoppers put a stop to the haunting, Big Fat Balloons has named and shamed the ghosts of
Christmas shopping. As managing director, Sophie Baxter explained:

“Shopping for Christmas gifts should be fun. Yet we’ve all experienced those moments of despair and the
feeling that time is running away from you. By identifying the ‘ghosts of Christmas gift buying’ and providing
solutions to overcome these unwelcome visitors, we want to put the fun back into Christmas gift shopping.”

The ‘Ghost of Indecision’ often appears when an individual is buying a gift for a person who already has
everything. Preparation is the best defence. Throughout the year note down different gift ideas. They can be
outrageous, boring or expansive, but at least it provides a bank of ideas to select from when Christmas arrives.
Expensive ideas can easily be substituted for cheaper equivalents. For example, while perfume might blow the
budget, the matching shower gel could be more affordable.

Who hasn’t met the ‘Ghost of Pointless Christmas Presents’? Thousands of pounds worth of gadgets are buried
in cupboards throughout the country. To destroy this ghost always think twice, before buying Christmas gifts.
First, ask if the gift has real purpose or wow factor? For instance, while the Furby was soon confined to the
history books, electronic consoles including the Wii, Nintendo DS, Sony Playstation, have a certain longevity as
new games are available all the time. They’re also great at keeping the kids (and even the husband) quiet.

The second question to face is – will they really appreciate this Christmas gift? Again it’s about going beyond
the novelty factor and working out whether or not the gift will have real value for the recipient. Wine charms
might appear to be a novelty gift, but they’re a fantastic way to stop the Mother-in-law from always claiming the
full glass of Pinot Grigio!

The most dreaded of all ghosts is the ‘Ghost of Nightmare Credit Card Bills’. While it’s possible to hide from
this ghost for a while, the bill will finally arrive. Tackling this ghost head-on is the best strategy. Putting money
away each week throughout the year, makes Christmas a much easier financial burden to bear. It’s also important
to set a budget and stick to it. Even better use cash rather than credit cards, which makes overspending less likely.
If credit cards are necessary, Big Fat Balloons advises adding up the cost as you go along – at least this avoids
                                                                      Page 59/142

nasty surprises in the New Year.

Procrastination is the best friend of the ‘Ghost of Last Minute Christmas Gifts’. Stop this ghost in its tracks by
being organised. Make a list of all the Christmas gifts required and add ideas for each person. Then pick up
Christmas gifts throughout the year or set one of two days aside to get all the Christmas shopping finished.

The sneakiest of all the Christmas gift buying ghosts, is the ‘Ghost of Disappearing Time’, which creeps up when
you’re not looking. Suddenly it’s days from Christmas and there’s still a list of presents to buy! Organisation and
preparation, both help to banish this ghost, however delegation also works.

Ask for help, after all, the old saying ‘many hands make light work’ certainly rings true at Christmas.
Another time-saving trick is to buy Christmas gifts online. In fact, online Christmas shopping can save hours.
Just think, no more sore feet from trailing around the shops, no more waiting in queues and no more traffic jams
on the way home. At www.bigfatballoons.co.uk guaranteed Christmas delivery dates, give peace of mind that
Christmas gifts will arrive in plenty of time for Christmas Day.

Follow the Big Fat Balloons guidelines and the ghosts of Christmas’s past will stay well and truly hidden,
allowing everyone to enjoy a very happy Christmas this year.

Customer reviews influence local consumer behavior but that’s not all...
As well as influencing the purchasing decisions of local consumers, online customer reviews play an important
part in how local consumers find local businesses in the first place.

Myles Anderson, Founder of BrightLocal.com, explains; “Local search engines like Google Places, and online
directories like Yelp.com, use online reviews as a way to determine the quality of a local business. This directly
affects how high-up the search results a business appears, so if a local business wants to boost their position in
Google and attract more customers, then asking their loyal customers to review them online is an excellent way to
do this”

Topshop Launches Christmas Fashion Film
Topshop has launched its new festive fashion film which shows off all the key trends for the
Christmas party period
London, England (PRWEB) December 12, 2010 -- Topshop has launched its new Christmas fashion film, which
highlights the key trends for this year's Christmas period and the party season.

The festive fashion film is directed by Angelo Pennetta and features model Ashley Smith and stylist Francesca
Burns showing off the hottest pieces for the Christmas period this year.

The video helps Christmas party-goers create some beautiful looks, whether they plan to stay in with friends or
head out on the town.

Some of the keys trends this season include diamante scattered fishtail gown and sequin shift dresses which
create the Christmas sparkle. Any look can be toughened up with the help of lace-up boots and chunky knitwear
to help keep out the chill on the cold December nights.

The Christmas period is also about tassels and textures, so the addition of leopard print or faux fur can keep any
outfit right on trend. And as its Christmas, it's important to sparkle, so anything with sequins or gems will look
perfect.

The new festive fashion video shows that a variety of looks can be created from Topshop's latest collection, no
matter what style customers are going for, as there is something for everyone. Looks can differ from beaded knits,
leopard print coats and capes to party frocks with huge bows and pearl encrusted heels to the grungier look of
ankle socks and lace-up boots.

Any Christmas look can be topped off with lashing of eye-liner, smudges of kohl and red lipstick, as shown in the
video and created by make-up artist Hiromi Udea.

The Topshop festive fashion film can now be viewed on Topshop's website.

Big 'Penny Auction' Sites Won't Like it When You Win This Christmas
Is it possible to shop cheap this Christmas and be entertained all at the same time? Trusted
Crocbids.com is offering Priority Pass invites to Christmas Auctions before its full launch in
January. So register and find out.
(PRWeb) December 11, 2010 -- Is it possible to shop cheap this Christmas and be entertained all at the same
time? Trusted Crocbids.com is offering Priority Pass invites to Christmas Auctions before its full launch in
January. So register and find out.

Every year consumers say to themselves, ‘never again’. The majority of shoppers can relate to the imperative last
minute Christmas rush. Racing to the stores on Christmas Eve in hope of finding last minute discounts on the
latest digital camera or mobile phone. Many still submit to this, but for most, the days of stumbling around the
high street with more shopping bags than sense are a thing of the past.

 So what’s changed?
Access has changed. The facility to access thousands of comparable prices and products in one click is fast and
enables choice. The ability to read independent customer reviews on retailers and items is simple and often
essential in decision making. Most websites aid users to locate nearest stores and check stock levels via postcode.
This provides unsurpassed control and has significantly influenced how goods are acquired today.

From websites like asos where customers can view their chosen outfit modelled in video and receive it in the
same day. Other ideas like Envirophone have innovated the service for customers to part exchange their old
phones for new. Now sites like Swoopo or the latest addition to grace the wonderful web, crocbids.com which
has lowered all of its costs and guarantee’s speedy delivery to challenge the more established penny auction sites.

Penny Auction sites such as crocbids.com allow consumers to buy bid credit and then bid for chosen items in
increments of 1 pence at a time (hence the name). Some sites describe the savings as being 80% on average and
as little as 1pence for the very lucky bidders. Crobids.com expects its auctions to sell for only 10% of the RRP
price during Christmas.

A priority pass email will be sent via email for the early Christmas auctions for those who pre-register now.
During the Christmas period, there will be a select client base. This will mean a much greater chance of wining.
So get there quick and register before competition becomes tough like with its competitors.

From reading the many forums in regards to penny auction sites frequent users are often in complaint that it is too
hard to win with the more established sites. This is because so many are logged in and experienced competition.
Some of the writers on internet forums claim to look for the newer companies as they have more success.

In the past there have been recurring questions on internet forums regarding penny auction scams. Now that
thousands of people have won great products there is a general greater understanding of how these sites function.
Penny auctions have become accepted as a good way to shop and be entertained at the same time.

                                                                      Page 81/142

crocbids.com. Fashion connoisseurs will also be bagging some of the hottest high street and designer trends –
from Juicy Couture bags to Christian Louboutin shoes. Crocbids.com offers many hard to get items from the
upcoming seasons.

Those looking for a steal of a car price without actually stealing car will be able to bid on brand new cars such an
Audi A3 or a BMW 1 series. Winners will be able to choose their own colour and specifications within reason.

Is shopping online safe going into 2011?
Studies show online shoppers are generally careful, with 82% purchasing from secure sites only. But older
people appear to be more at risk and the ‘Fraudsters’ prey on it. Statistically 14% of online shoppers aged 45-54
had been hit by online fraud. These types of fraud are usually offers of fake medicines or attractive links
containing a virus.

So how can this be prevented?
It is not possible to speak for all sites and claim 100% safety. It is relevant how each individual uses the internet
and whether they are responsible for what they look at and where they buy.

There are millions of users shopping online with no hiccups or problems. It is unnecessary to fork out for the
most expensive antivirus protection on the market, or to create password the length of the Nile. Just a bit of
common sense and a few basic pointers to remember is all that is needed for stress-free shopping:

Know the risks...
Low risks:
- Bad customer service
- Goods arrive that are not what was ordered
- Delays with the order (weather conditions/ item out of stock/staffing issues)

Possible high risks:
- Purchasing items that aren’t delivered
- Misuse of users credit/debit card
- Downloading information containing a virus

 Get safe
 - Have a good antivirus installed such as Norton or Eset Nod. They will often pick up the germs and
automatically delete them.
 - Common sense! If the web address doesn’t look right. Chances are it isn’t. When paying check for secure
sites that display a padlock symbol in the window frame of the browser or look for ISIS accreditation.
 - Make sure the browser is up to date and the online store has the latest security. (SSL Certified) If it is a secure
site the address bar normally displays a green symbol.
 - If the browser displays a warning about potential malware. Do not continue
 - Be cautious when buying from overseas companies.
 - Check sellers privacy policy and returns policy.
                                                                      Page 82/142

 - Use a safe means of online payment and create a password with the bank for all online purchases.
 - Use PayPal. All online purchases are protected. Claiming money back due to fraud or miss-selling is quick
and easy.

Debenhams Reports Nativity Costs Soaring for Competitive Parents
Debenhams has revealed that competitive parents are spending up to £150 on their children's
nativity costumes.
London, England (PRWEB) December 11, 2010 -- Debenhams has reported that the trend for designer donkeys,
Virgin Marys and Josephs is stronger than ever, with competitive parents splashing out up to £150 to ensure that
their youngster is the brightest star in the nativity play.

 Grandma's chequered tea towels (http://www.debenhams.com/home-furniture/cookware/kitchen-textiles/towels )
and chintzy tinsel from last year's tree are just not good enough it seems, as parents shape up their shepherds
using the finest of materials. Designer chinos, shearling throws
(http://www.debenhams.com/home-furniture/cushions-throws-rugs ) and fine silk party dresses are instead
adorning this year's cast in community centres, churches and school halls for the annual nativity play.

Debenhams has briefed sales staff and personal shoppers in stores to encourage parents not to spend hundreds
making their child a couture King, but instead to embrace the season of goodwill and create costumes out of old
sheets for the angels, painted cardboard stuck to headbands for the star and Dad's old stripey pyjamas
(http://www.debenhams.com/men/nightwear-loungewear ) for the Shepherds.

Michelle Dowdall at Debenhams said: "Our personal shoppers are urging parents to have a little Christmas spirit,
and spend time with their child making a DIY costume. Despite this, we are still seeing some people fork out the
price of a flight to Bethlehem on making their son or daughter a model mule.

"It's crazy that at a time where the majority of us are watching our pennies, some parents think there's only room
at the inn for designer donkeys.

"We thought it was odd, and might be a one-off last year, but some parents are still spending hundreds on their
child's nativity outfit. It's silly and we're trying to help competitive parents see sense and go back to the traditional
tea towel on the head."

Debenhams first noticed the trend, nicknamed "Manger Chic", last Christmas during the start of nativity play
rehearsals. Stores were inundated with requests for advice on how to create the ultimate Nativity Play character.

Brand new designer dresses (http://www.debenhams.com/women/dresses ), luxury velour striped robes, Egyptian
cotton towels and bedding plus lavish warm fleece coats are just some of the items in demand. The trend to spend
more seems to be worse for the lesser roles, such as the humble sheep and goats.

Michelle Dowdall continued: "Some feel they have to make a big deal of the costume as their child is playing a
minor role. While most parents want simple advice on how to use craft materials with household items to make a
modest sheep, others seem dead set on the idea that their child's outfit will outshine the Star of Bethlehem."

Parents are keener than ever to instill a sense of ambition in their children from a very early age. Miss Dowdall
                                                                      Page 88/142

added: "The demand for places at good schools and universities seems more on the agenda now than ever before.
Parents have even commented to store staff that they feel they have to encourage their children to be the best from
a very young age.

"It may be a reaction to the change of government and recent recession. Parents are more anxious about their
children's futures now than ever before.

"Our personal shoppers are of course on hand to give parents advice if they are unsure about how to create their
child's nativity character without breaking the bank."

British Expats Continue to Suffer UK Banking Problems
We reveal the findings of our survey on the problems faced by British expats trying to keep open
their UK bank accounts.
(PRWeb UK) December 11, 2010 --

Survey Highlights:

- There is no legislation that says British expats cannot keep open a UK account
- Banks often reduce banking privileges to expats keeping open a UK account
- Thumbs up to First Direct and HSBC who are tagged as the most expat friendly in our survey*
- Lloyds TSB tagged as the most likely bank in our survey* to ask an expat to close their UK account
- Building societies are least likely to allow British expats to retain UK accounts
- Banks are applying a lottery-style approach to expats wishing to keep open a UK account
- Offshore accounts are perceived as having high charges and pay poor rates
- There is a general lack of understanding and current fear about banking offshore

As previously highlighted by ExpatMoneyChannel, the confusion over whether or not British expats can keep
open a UK bank account is pushing them out of the safety net of the UK’s regulatory authority and compensation
scheme. We asked expats for their experiences on the worrying trend for UK-based banks to ask expats to close
their UK accounts.

So far responses indicate that the problem is not as cut and dried as originally thought. Based on
ExpatMoneyChannel research, whether or not an expat can keep open a UK-bank account will very much depend
on who you bank you with; how long you have banked with them; whether you retain a UK address and what type
of account you have. What’s more, our research shows some banks are taking a lottery-style approach as to
whether or not expats can keep their UK bank accounts by applying different rules even to the same customer
base.

There are many practical reasons why a British expat would need to have a UK bank account. These would
include the convenience of receiving state or private pensions, particularly if you are an expat in a country which
does not have an arrangement with the UK to pay pensions directly overseas, such as Greece and Thailand. In
addition, setting up an international account with a UK bank offshore is out of reach for many expats, with an
increasing number of international accounts requiring new customers to have a minimum annual salary of
£50,000 or savings of £25,000. And while this requirement is sometimes waived if you are an existing customer,
after a couple of years our survey indicates that even these expats are being asked to stump up the extra cash.
And when it comes to private pensions, not all companies have the facility to make electronic payments overseas,
which means for expats living in remote locations where post may be a problem then the safest way to receive
pension payments is to set up an overseas electronic transfer arrangements via a UK bank account.

Then there are those expats who may eventually return to the UK and who do not wish to cut financial ties.
Indeed, an expat may still have property in the UK that is let out or they may have a mortgage to pay, so having a
                                                                      Page 94/142

UK bank account to accept such payments is convenient. Finally, there is the pressing question of whether or not
an expat with financial ties in the UK wants to be placed outside the safety net of the UK’s regulatory authority
and compensation scheme.

Go to ExpatMoneyChannel for the full findings including respondents’ comments.

UK to Follow US Trend of Using Online Discount Vouchers, says Savoo
The redemption of online discount vouchers in the US skyrocketed 263% last year, according to
Nielsen research and with the ongoing recession the resurgence of consumers using codes to
secure discounts is set to continue, not just in America but in the UK also, says Savoo. The
number of searches online for terms such as 'discount codes' and 'online vouchers' in the UK
increased by 47.5% last year and this trend has continued with current monthly search figures
for 'voucher codes' hitting almost 370,000, which would suggest consumers are not prepared to
pay full price for all their purchases any more.
London, UK (PRWEB) December 8, 2010 -- The redemption of online discount vouchers in the US skyrocketed
263% last year, according to Nielsen research and with the ongoing recession the resurgence of consumers using
codes to secure discounts is set to continue, not just in America but in the UK also, says Savoo.

The number of searches online for terms such as 'discount codes' and 'online vouchers' in the UK increased by
47.5% last year and this trend has continued with current monthly search figures for 'voucher codes' hitting almost
370,000, which would suggest consumers are not prepared to pay full price for all their purchases any more.

American consumers are historically known for using vouchers and coupons in order to save money in a number
of market areas. Globally, more and more people are shopping online and this paired with the recent economic
crisis has led to a jump in online code usage. Savings.com, the number one website for online voucher codes in
the US, has seen a huge increase in users over the past couple of years and has recently bought its wealth of
knowledge to the UK with Savoo.co.uk. Savoo.co.uk is set to help savvy shoppers make their money go further,
especially with Christmas vouchers during the present buying season.

Savoo details the very best discount vouchers, which are offered exclusively through its website thanks to its
close working relationships with big brands, like Mothercare, Comet and Boots. The site, which is the only one in
the UK that prides itself on never displaying out of date deals and discounts, was live in beta version for
approximately one year and has now started to shake up the discount code market across Great Britain.
Additionally, the brand new Savoo Answers service, modelled on the Savings.com's successful 'Ask, Answer &
Save', gives consumers the opportunity to directly enquire about the best products to buy, where to buy them and
most importantly which online store is offering the greatest deal or discount.

Simon Bird, Director of Retail Partnerships, said: "A number of shoppers in the UK are catching onto the
discount code trend, something that has been historically more prevalent over in the. It would appear the
recession is making people even more aware of being able to shop smarter. With Christmas fast approaching, we
are expecting to see an even greater rise in people using Savoo and Savoo Answers to find the best current deal or
discount. However, money saving is an all year round requirement - why buy at full price when there is a discount
available? Visiting Savoo could soon be part of every UK online shopper's routine in the same way as US
consumers visit Savings.com."

For the only UK website showing entirely in-date deals and discounts, visit www.savoo.co.uk.

thetrainline's Latest Research Finds Britain's Students Long for Home Sweet
Home
Thetrainline.com Provide Insight on Student Rail Travel Trends and Provide Money Saving Tips
for Those Looking to Get a Better Deal When Travelling by Train.
(PRWEB) December 10, 2010 -- It seems there really is no place like home, especially if you’re a student and
need your washing done. According to new research, the student stereotype is worryingly accurate with one in ten
(10%) admitting they regularly return home during term time to get their laundry done.

The research by online train ticket retailer thetrainline.com found that gone are the days of going off to university
and not coming home until the end of the semester – today’s university students are part of a boomerang
generation and will on average return home more than 10 times in a term.

Whilst the majority will go home to see friends and family, for a significant proportion the opportunity to be
pampered by their parents seems too good to miss. Nearly a quarter of students admit that this is a significant
motivating factor in why they decide to take a trip home (24%).

Around the same number get bored of Pot Noodles and baked beans and make the journey home for some
home-cooked food (25%), whilst nearly one in ten simply need to catch up on some sleep (9%).

Despite travelling home so frequently the majority of students still aren’t getting the best deal on their train
tickets.

Iain Hildreth, Marketing Manager at thetrainline.com said: “Over half of students in the UK use the train to get
between home and their place of study, yet we have found only 18% have a 16-25 Railcard. Carrying a Railcard
could save you 1/3 off rail fares – essential if you’re travelling back and forth so frequently. University costs are
soaring at the moment and at thetrainline.com we want to make sure we’re doing everything we can to help
students get the best deals on tickets – and help them to wear clean clothes.”

The research also found that first years are the most likely to regularly travel home, but it doesn’t seem to matter
what year you’re in – having the parents come to visit is strictly off limits. Over a third of students won’t let their
parents come to see them at university (38%), and almost another third will only let them make the trip once –
suggesting they’re allowed to help move them in and then that’s it (30%).

To help British students stretch that precious loan a little further, thetrainline.com has a range of money saving
tools and tips to help your budget go further this term – so how you’re going to get home needn’t be a worry:

 1. Book in advance: If you’re planning to travel home for the Christmas holidays, now is a good time to think
about booking your train tickets. Advance fares, which are often the cheapest ticket option, are released up to 12
weeks before travel date, so booking now means you can take advantage of some of the best-priced train fares
available.
 2. Stay single: Two single tickets are often cheaper than a return and on thetrainline.com website it’s easy to
                                                                     Page 100/142

compare the price of each ticket type on the fare result page.
 3. Beat the clock: Save money by specifying your time of travel. Tickets requiring you to travel on specific
trains (Advance and Off-Peak) tend to be cheaper than Anytime fares.
 4. Be flexible: Best Fare Finder will help you find cheap train tickets on 400 of the most popular routes in the
UK. The tool highlights the cheapest ticket available for your journey on or around your preferred travel dates and
with the ability to browse fares over a three month period you can easily see when it’s the cheapest time for you
to travel.

CSG to Create New Jobs in the New Year
Consultant Services Group are building upon the success of 2010 by expanding their staff force.
(PRWEB) December 10, 2010 -- During the first quarter of 2011, CSG are looking to double their sales team with
the intention of further expansion within the operational support teams of cleaning, catering and vending services
as potential new business comes in.

This expansion further substantiates the company as the largest local employer in Heckmondwike, West
Yorkshire. Once famous for its textile industry, Heckmondwike has seen itself reliant on other economic avenues
for local employment as the textiles industry saw a demise many years ago in the market town. CSG’s head office
offers employment to over 120 staff, and their complete staff force rises to over 1600 when including the number
of staff supplied to their 700 client locations.

Having such an extensive staff force is integral to the company due to the labour intensive services they supply.
Focal services such as daily office cleaning can require from one cleaning operative to over 30 cleaners depending
on the site, on-site contract catering services can require both kitchen staff and chefs and there are also a plethora
of Route Vending Operatives who replenish vending machines from the borders of Scotland through to the
Midlands.

Reinvestment in the company has been at the heart of the business’s success over the past few years with a total
rebranding and a new website built to reflect the company’s new image and extensive services. Further
investment in the staff force will look to only build upon their current success.

Simon Midgley, CEO of the company states “There is no denying that things are tough throughout the business
world and it seems there may be more to come but CSG has been in business 40 years and has passed successfully
through the two other major recessions which the UK has suffered during that time. Our philosophy has always
remained the same, invest in your business, invest in your staff and the knock on effect is positive both for us as a
company and for the local economy. If we can continue to expand then this can only be good news for our own
employee’s security and that of other local businesses.”

Thousands of Travellers May not be Covered Despite Having Travel Insurance
Holidaymakers advised to be safe rather than sorry when travelling with someone with
pre-existing medical conditions
Honiton, UK (PRWEB) December 10, 2010 -- Independent travel insurance specialist World First Travel
Insurance has announced that thousands of people may not be covered by their travel insurance policy if they are
travelling with people who have pre-existing medical conditions.

People travelling with family or friends who have or have had cancer or any other pre-existing medical condition
are being advised to check their travel insurance policy to make sure they are covered should their travel plans be
affected by illnesses of anyone in the party who has bought travel insurance elsewhere

Travel insurance through bank accounts, or other general added benefit schemes, provides travellers with
standard cover - they do not provide cover for pre existing medical conditions if they have not been disclosed.
Importantly, they also don't cover accompanying travellers should a member of the party fall ill and travel be
disrupted if the policy holder has not disclosed this information.

World First Travel Insurance, experts in medical travel insurance for pre existing conditions, is raising awareness
of the issues relating to travel insurance for people with pre-existing conditions and those travelling with them.

Martin Rothwell, Managing Partner of World First Travel Insurance said,: "We have seen a number of cases
recently where people are travelling with a relative who has taken out a dedicated policy to cover their
pre-existing conditions and they are assume they are covered through their standard policy. This is not the case.

"If you are travelling with someone who, for example, has had cancer, you need to disclose this information to
the insurer. The reason for this is if your travel companion were to be taken ill due to their condition you would
not be covered as you had not disclosed this information when buying a policy.

"When booking a holiday with someone who has a pre-existing medical condition it is essential to make sure any
accompanying travellers disclose the medical conditions to their insurer, or are put on a joint or family travel
insurance policy. That way if anything were to go wrong, everyone is covered."

Anyone travelling with somebody who has a medical condition such as cancer, angina, asthma, diabetes, HIV,
heart conditions or any other medical condition that has required treatment of any type, must take out a specialist
medical travel insurance policy too. The costs for such policies vary and travellers are advised to shop around and
find an expert insurer who can give the best deal, both in terms of the cost and the level of cover.

People travelling with someone with a pre-existing medical condition can be added to the policy of the other
person, often for as little as £35.00.

Martin Rothwell added: "Make sure you disclose any information that may affect your travel or holiday, the last
thing you want is to find yourself in a difficult situation where you could have been covered if you'd informed the
                                                                     Page 105/142

insurer. Don't assume you're covered; it's always best to double check and be sure so you can relax and enjoy your
time away."

The Decorating Tools website offers a comprehensive selection of products at low prices.

The products themselves cover a wide variety of decorating tasks and the prominent navigation bar illustrates this
as tools are divided into tasks such as ‘painting’ or ‘tiling’. Products for any task are, as a result, easy to find. The
products are all of high quality and the site lists products manufactured by Silverline, Stanley and DeWalt and
countless other big name brands. Tools we found on the website included numerous: brushes, rollers, paint pads,
step ladders, lamps, knifes, tapes, tables, spray guns, sanders and so many other products they can’t all be listed
here.

Product listings include descriptions, photos, stock updates and prices. We can also reveal that the site will
possibly have videos demonstrating products in the near future.

Mark Canfield, Commercial manager of Toolbox explained:

“We know that when it comes to online shopping many people are unwilling to buy something that they can’t
physically see. However, we’ve tried to provide clear product listings so the customer understands what they are
buying. We are always looking to expand our business into new areas and Decorating Tools is a great way to
expand our loyal customer base by providing the same quality service to products like wallpapering tools rather
than shower enclosures.”

Toolbox has been trading online since 1999; as a result the company has built up a large amount of expertise
regarding web design and retail.

Anthony Langston, Web administrator of Toolbox, said:

“We spent a long time perfecting the website. It’s been tested very thoroughly so that we can be sure our
customers don’t encounter any problems whilst browsing the site. We have a great team at Toolbox who are
working constantly to make sure that everything works as it should.”

The site boasts great design and a host of useful features. As you would expect from a forward thinking company
the site is integrated with numerous social networks, social news sites and bookmarking websites. If all that

sounds too complicated to inexperienced internet users, there are plenty of features to simplify the shopping
experience. The site enjoys secure payment, numerous safety features, and a straightforward design that makes
browsing and shopping on the website effortless.

Toolbox is based in Evesham, Worcestershire and now employs 50 staff within their 2,000 sqm, purpose built
warehouse and offices. The company had a turnover in 2008 in excess of £18 Million. Toolbox was established in
1999 by James and Anita Hickman who sold the business to The Grafton Group Plc in December 2006.

Bank of Cyprus UK Secures its Customers with Trusteer
Bank of Cyprus UK announces it is working with Trusteer to launch an additional security
service to its customers as of today Wednesday 8th December 2010. Available as a free
download, Trusteer’s Rapport secure browsing service can be installed on a customer’s personal
PC to lock down the browser and create a safe tunnel for communication between the customer
and Bank of Cyprus UK, preventing fraud.
London, UK (Vocus) December 8, 2010 -- Bank of Cyprus UK announces it is working with Trusteer to launch
an additional security service to its customers as of today Wednesday 8th December 2010.

Available as a free download, Trusteer’s Rapport secure browsing service can be installed on a customer’s
personal PC to lock down the browser and create a safe tunnel for communication between the customer and
Bank of Cyprus UK, preventing fraud.

Bank of Cyprus UK supplies its customers with a Digipass® as part of its three pronged approach to security.
Rapport is being introduced to complement this technology and provide extra confidence to those using its online
banking facilities. Should a fraudster attempt to take over a user’s account Rapport issues an alert of the unusual
behaviour immediately, allowing the Bank of Cyprus UK to take action and prevent loss.

Soteris Antoniades, Assistant Chief Executive - Service for Bank of Cyprus UK said, “We short-listed and
evaluated two products and Trusteer won hands down. The other solution was complicated, requiring the
customer to perform various additional actions, potentially alienating customers and defeating the object. Instead
they simply install Rapport, it runs discreetly in the background without any further customer interaction,
customers continue with their usual online behaviour, only now it’s secure. What’s really special about the
technology is, while it appears simple to the customer, it’s a very sophisticated technology providing detailed
intelligence that we can use in our continuing efforts to thwart attacks.”

“By selecting Trusteer, Bank of Cyprus UK is sending a message to its customers that it takes security very
seriously, and is doing everything possible to keep them safe and secure¨ said Mickey Boodaei CEO of Trusteer.
“We continue to work with Bank of Cyprus UK, as we do with all our clients, to provide a holistic approach to
online fraud by preventing incidents at the point of attack while investigating their source to mitigate future
attempts. Individuals are increasingly aware of the dangers online, however the fraudsters are deploying ever
more sophisticated attacks to trick Joe Public. Luckily by working with enlightened organisations like Bank of
Cyprus UK, we can help identify these scams and avoid people falling foul.”

 Trusteer secures online banking
A light-weight security software that downloads onto the customer’s computer in minutes, Rapport works in the
background and doesn’t call for a change in user behaviour. The solution comes with an application that enables
financial institutions to effectively trigger alerts, view and analyse data as well as manage security.

When a Trusteer user browses to the Bank of Cyprus UK website the service immediately locks down the
browser. This prevents malware from injecting data and stealing information entered and presented in the
                                                                     Page 118/142

browser. Trusteer also removes malicious financial malware it discovers on protected machines. The service is
directly connected to the bank and to a 24x7 fraud analysis service. Attempts to steal money from customers are
immediately detected by the bank and are blocked using various layers of protection.

Some of the UK's most respected food bloggers have shared with toptable their top ten
restaurants in 2010. Passionate about restaurants and constantly looking to be surprised and
inspired by food, their choices demonstrate the broad wealth of culinary experiences available in
both London and across the UK.
(PRWeb UK) December 7, 2010 -- Some of the UK’s most respected food bloggers have shared with toptable
their top ten restaurants in 2010. Passionate about restaurants and constantly looking to be surprised and inspired
by food, their choices demonstrate the broad wealth of culinary experiences available in both London and across
the UK.

The bloggers were unanimous in their admiration of Hawksmoor in Covent Garden referring often to the
Kimichi burger, lobster roll and as Cheese and Biscuits wrote, “... and my God, those beef dripping chips...”.
Italian restaurants were also favoured with Polpo and Polpetto, Zucca, Alloro, L’Anima, Zafferano, Bocca di
Lupo and Cinquecento - where Douglas Blyde was rendered speechless by the tagliatelle with white truffle -
taking top spots. Bob Bob Ricard is noted for the ‘top class food’, ‘best roast lamb’, ‘champagne at the push of a
button’ and as The Epicurean says “...the best value for money wine list in the UK”.

Hidden ethnic gems such as Sushi di Shiori - described by Catty as “...hands down the best, freshest and most
delicious sushi and sashimi I've had in London.” Koya, Pearl Liang, Kikuchi, Dishoom and Tayyabs sit
alongside culinary luminaries; The Ledbury, Le Gavroche , Fat Duck , The Square and Galvin La Chapelle.

Out of London restaurants; The Kingham Plough, The Pot Kiln and The Kitchen all struck a chord with Bruce
Palling who described the latter as “...probably the most original cuisine in Scotland...”. Dan of Essex Eating rates
The Gurnard’s Head in St. Ives and The Lido Restaurant in Bristol amongst his most memorable dining
experiences this year.

Lucy Taylor, Head of Restaurant Relations said, “The combined list of bloggers top restaurants for 2010 creates a
fantastically diverse resource for toptable users giving them plenty of really informed tips as to which restaurants
to try and which chefs to watch in 2011.”

Littlewoods Europe Launches New Size Guides
Littlewoods Europe announces the launch of a new range of sizing guides that aim to take the
guesswork out of buying clothes and help customers to choose the right size every time.
Speke, Liverpool (PRWEB) December 5, 2010 -- Littlewoods Europe, part of the Shop Direct group, recently
announced the launch of a market-leading new range of sizing guides on their website to enable customers to
choose their correct size when buying clothing.

Separate size guides have been created for women, men and children and provide detailed comparisons between
UK and European sizes as well as advice on different fits of clothing. Each of the guides include helpful images
and video content.

Helpful size guides have also been added to individual product pages for easy reference when shopping online.
These include a diagram with the most common measurements and a conversion scale between standard clothing
sizes, metric and imperial.

In addition, Littlewoods Europe's comprehensive and easy-to use guide to finding the right bra size includes a
step by step bra fitting video. An estimated 80% of women in the UK are wearing the wrong size bra which, in
addition to being uncomfortable, can cause back pain and headaches. The bra fitting video gives women all the
information they need to choose the correct size and alleviate these risks.

Littlewoods Europe and the Shop Direct group firmly believe in the importance of accurate sizing and have been
part of two major studies of sizing in recent years, Shape GB and Size UK. The new range of sizing guides aim to
address the concerns raised by these studies and help shoppers choose clothes that feel comfortable and look
great.

A spokesperson for Littlewoods Europe said, "We believe our new size guides will assist customers in choosing
the right size clothing, Clothes look and feel much better when we are wearing the correct size and can make you
look instantly slimmer."

As well as the size guides, Littlewoods Europe's product pages now also feature user reviews that allow
customers to share useful advice and information to help others chose the right size and fit of clothes when buying
online.

Debenhams Reveals Lumberjack Shirt Sales Shooting up as the Cold Snap Bites

Debenhams reports sales of traditional long-sleeved lumberjack shirts have shot up making it the
key item to get through the winter cold snap
London, England (PRWEB) December 5, 2010 -- Debenhams department store is reporting sales of the traditional
long-sleeved check shirts have shot up 65 per cent on last year, making the garment the key item to get through
the cold snap.

Once ridiculed as the clothing of simple, hulking woodsmen, and lampooned by Monty Python, the lumberjack
style mens shirts (http://www.debenhams.com/men/shirts ) have moved on from fashion foible to must-have
according to department store Debenhams.

Inspired by the likes of Prince Harry, David Beckham, Justin Timberlake and Robert Pattinson, it seems you no
longer need to have the backdrop of a forest and chainsaw in hand to carry off the look.

However, with the Met Office predicting continual snow showers, Debenhams stores are gearing up for the rush.
More lumberjack styles have been brought in and extra stock has been sent to more stores to cope with the
demand.

Ruth Attridge, spokesperson for Debenhams said, "Although the lumberjack look is back in vogue, the chunky
check shirt is now more likely to be worn out on the town than slogging away in the forests.

"Modern man has been influenced by these uber-masculine folklore heroes but unlike the figure made famous by
Monty Python, these days lumberjack shirts are more likely to be worn with a t-shirt underneath, not lingerie".

Influenced by designers such as Dolce & Gabbana and Tommy Hilfiger parading the woodcutter look on the
catwalk, the on-trend way to wear checks is in bold colours, with two pockets rather than four, sleeves rolled up,
layered over a plain t-shirt and in lightweight brushed cotton as well as heavyweight wool flannel.

Initially designed for colder weather, lumberjack shirts (http://www.debenhams.com/men/shirts ) have been
redesigned in many formats including lighter shirt. This means its wear is not restricted to the winter months and
the trend is expected to continue into Spring/Summer 2011.

Attridge added, "A lumberjack shirt embodies the rugged, rebellious spirit of the wilderness. Sporting one,
whether in Canada or Croydon, ensures you will endure the winter toasty warm and stay ahead of the fashion
pack".

Laura Ashley Offers Free Delivery for Online Purchases
Laura Ashley's range of offers, including free delivery until Sunday 5th December, means that
you can get ahead of the festive season without facing the weather.
London, UK (PRWEB) December 3, 2010 -- Now that the big chill has really set in, with snow falling over the
UK and still more predicted, it's beginning to feel ever so Christmassy and exciting.

For some, however, this might be setting off alarm bells - less than 30 days to go and you're nowhere near to
being on top of your Christmas purchasing - and the thought of braving the shops in this wintry weather is really
more than you can face.

Fortunately, Laura Ashley has come to the rescue with free delivery on all online purchases (excluding next day
fashion delivery) until Sunday 5th December - which means that you can pour another coffee and browse, click
and buy in the warmth and comfort of your own home.

Now is the time to take advantage of a generous 25% off knitwear and coats, with a choice of jumper dresses,
cardigans in both casual and elegant styles, and coats that will keep you warm whether you inhabit an urban or
rural landscape.

Winter is also an ideal time to turn your attention to making your home beautiful and comfortable - after all,
you're likely to be snuggled up in cosy domesticity for a good few months to come so it pays to be a little bit in
love with your surroundings. Laura Ashley are offering 25% off curtains and blinds (excluding ready made) -
ideal for blocking out the chill and the dark, as well adding to that deliciously cosy sensation that comes with
being in the warmth and comfort of your own home when plummeting temperatures have seized the world
outside. There's also up to 50% off lighting, so you can shun the dark evenings in affordable style.

And, for those whose homes are lacking in festive sparkle, or whose gift buying lists so far feature very few
crossed-off names, Laura Ashley's 3 for 2 offer on gifts and home accessories will provide a perfect solution.

So get cosy- but think cashmere socks and oversized sweaters rather than snowboots and duvet coats. With free
delivery until Sunday, Laura Ashley makes it possible for you to shop 'til you drop - and all without braving the
elements.
