In accordance with Rule 28 of the Rules of Procedure, the secretariat has prepared the at-
tached summary tables of the information furnished in table A of Questionnaire I in respect of
skimmed milk powder and whole milk powder. This document also contains tables showing ex-
ports of these two products by destination.
Conformément à la R3gle 28 du R3glement int6rieur, le secretariat a 6tabli les tableaux
sommaires ci-apr3s reprenant les donn6es fournies dans le tableau A du questionnaire I pour le lait
6cr6m6 en poudre et le lait entier en poudre. Ce document contient 6galement des tableaux des
exportations par destinations pour ces deux produits.
De conformidad con lo establecido en la Regla 28 del Reglamento, la Secretaria ha
preparado los presentes cuadros recapitulativos de las informaciones contenidas en el cuadro A
del cuestionario 1 de la leche desnatada en polo y de la leche entera en polvo. La presente nota
incluye tambi6n los cuadros de exportaciones por destino para estos dos productos.

Sources
In preparing the note, the secretariat based itself mainly on replies to questionnaires,
other information submitted by participants and observers as well as various information
arising from the operation of the Protocol Regarding Certain Milk Powders, the Protocol
Regarding Milk Fat and the Protocol Regarding Certain Cheeses. Furthermore, the
secretariat used supplementary information available to it from various national and interna-
tional sources, notably documentation from the FAQ, the UN/Economic Commission for
Europe, the OECD, the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Commission of the European Com-
munities, Agriculture Canada and the United States Department of Agriculture.
Notes relating to data of individual countries
In some countries' statistics, figures relating to anhydrous milk fat are not kept separate
from those relating to butter. They may therefore be included in the data relating to butter.
The data shown with respect to consumption, relate to apparent consumption, as calculated
by the secretariat.
Certain countries have not been included in all the tables either because the quantity
of trade has been nil or insignificant, or because figures have not been available.
Figures for Australia for skimmed milk powder also include partly skimmed milk pow-
der, cream powder, skimmed milk powder and buttermilk powder mixtures, and skimmed milk
powder modified. Whole milk powder export classification changed on I July 1984. Stocks
are those held by manufacturers. Cheese stock figures only include Cheddar, Gouda and
stirred curd,'granular cheeses.
For Bulgaria, partly skimmed milk powder is included in whole milk powder statistics.
Cheese figures include Kashkaval.

EC stocks of skimmed milk powder and butter include public intervention stocks and
private stocks. Cheese stocks include intervention stocks (public stocks for Grano-Padano
and Parmigiano Reggiano) and stocks qualifying for aid for private storage.
For Finland, stock figures are referring to wholesale stocks for dairies.
For Japan, figures refer to stocks of whole milk powder hold by manufacturers, whereas
for skimmed milk powder and butter, the data refer to stocks held by manufacturers as well
as the Livestock Industry Promotion Corporation. Cheese production figures are estimates.
All stock figures for New Zealand include export and local market stocks. Government
stocks are nil. Skimmed milk powder statistics include partly skimmed and cream powder.
Whole milk powder statistics include infants' food. Production figures for 1987 for anhydrous
milk fat include those made from butter.
For Norway, cheese figures include whey cheese and processed cheese.
Cheese figures for Poland include ripening and processed cheeses only.
Butter production figures for Sweden do not include 'Bregott-, (1987: 22,800 tons, 1988:
21,400 tons).
Butter figures for Siiitzerland include resolidified butter. Quarterly figures for cheese
production are estimates. Processed cheeses are not included in the statistics. Cheese stock
figures include Emmental, Gruyere, Sbrinz, Tilsit and Appenzell.
For Austria, stocks include only products of domestic origin. Figures for 1987-1988 for
skimmed milk powder include skimmed milk powder and buttermilk powder.
For Canada, butter figures refer to creamery butter only; whey butter is not included.
Cheese figures include Cheddar and other whole milk cheeses.
United States data on stocks of milk powders refer to CCC stocks. Exports of whole
milk powder include dry whole milk and cream.

Notes relatives aux donnies concernant les diff&cnts pays
Dans les statistiques de certains pays, les chiffres relatifs aux matieres grasses laitieres
anhidres ne sont pas indiques separement par rapport a ccux qui concement le beurre. 11 est
donc possible qu'ils saient compris dans les donnees relatives au beurre. Les chiff-es indiqucs,
en ce qui concern la consommation, se rapportent a la consornnation apparcnte, tell qu'elle
a ete calculee par le secretariat.
Curtains pays ne figurent pas dans tous les tableaux soit parcel que le q-antum des
changes etait nul ou insignifiant soit parce qu- les chiffires n'taient pas disponibies.
Pour l'Austral les chiffres concernant la poudre de lait comprennent egalement la
poudre de lait partiellement ecreme, la creme en poudre, les melanges de poudre de lait ecrcme
et de poudre de babeurrc, et la poudre de lait ecreme modifiee. La classification des
exportations de poudre de lait entier a et modifiee a compter du Icr juillet 1984. Les stocks
sont ceux qui sont detenus par les fabricants. Les chiffres des stocks de ftomages nc
comprennent que le Cheddar, le Gouda et les fromages de caillebotte ma'axee/granules.
En ce qui concerned la Bulgarie, la poudre de lait partieliement ecreme est comprise dans
les statistiques de la poudrc de lait entier. Les chiffres concernant le fromage comprennent ie
Kashkaval.

Les stocks de poudre de lait 6cr6m6 et de beurre des CE comprennent les stocks publics
d'intcrvention et les stocks priv6s. Les stocks de fromages comprennent les stocks
d'intervention (stocks publics en ce qui concernc le Grano-Padano et le Parmigiano Rc-giano)
et les stocks remplissant Ies conditions requiscs pour beneficier d'une aide au stockage prive.
En ce qui concerne la Finlande, les chiffres des stocks se rapportent aux stocks de gros
pour laiteries
En ce qui conceme le Japon les chiffres se rapportent aux stocks de poudre de lait entier
d6tenus par les fabricants, alors que dans Ie cas de la poudre de lait 6cr6m6 et du beurre, les
chiffres sc rapportent aux stocks dftenus par Ics fabricants et par la Societe pour la promotion

et la cremc en poudrc. Les statistiqucs dc la poudre de lait cntier comprenrnent Ics alimcnts

celles produites d partir du beurre.

lait entier sec et la creme.

Para preparar la present nota, la Secretaia se ha basado principalmente en las
respuestas a los cuestionarios y otros datos facilitados por los participantes y observadores,
asi corno en diversa informaci6n derivada del funcionamiento del Protocolo relativo a
Determinados Tipos de Leche en Polvo, el Protocolo relativo a las Materias Grasas Lacteas
v el Protocolo relativo a Determinados Quesos. Ademas, la Secretaria ha utilizado
informaci6n complementaria procedente de diversas fuentes nacionales e internacionales; en
particular, documentaci6n de la FAO, la Cornisi6n Econ6mica de las Naciones Unidas para
Europa, la OCDE, la Secretaria del Commonwealth, la Comision de las Comunidades
Europeas. Agriculture-Canada y el Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos.
Notas relatih'as a los datos de distintos pauses
En las estadisticas de algunos paises las cifras de las grasas lacteas anhidras no aparecen
desglosadas de las correspondientes a la mantequilla. Es posible, por lo tanto, que figuren
todas en los datos relatives a esta uiltima. Las cantidades indicadas en concepto de consumo
se refiercn al consumo aparente, calculado por la Secretaria.
Algunos paises no figuran en todos los cuadros, ya sea porque la cuantia de su comercio
ha sido nula o insignificante, o porque faltan las cifras.
Las cifras de la leche desnatada en polvo correspondientes a Australia incluven tambien
leche parcialmente desnatada en polvo, nata en polvo, mezclas de leche desnatada en polvo,
suero de manteQuiila en polvo y leche desnatada en polvo modificada. El lo de julio de 1984
cambi6 la clasn,..acion de las exportaciones de leche entera en polvo. Las existencias son las
mantenidas por los fabricantes. Las cifras de las existencia- de queso abarcan solamente
Cheddar, Gouda y cuajada agitada/quesos granulares.
En el caso de Bulgaria, las estadisticas de la leche entera en polvo incluyen tambien la
leche parcialmente desnatada en polvo. En i-is cifras del queso se incluye el Kashkaval.

Las existencias de la CE de leche desnatada en polvo y mantequilla comprenden las
existencias de intervención del sector publico y las existencias del sector privado. Las
existencias de queso incluyen las existencias de intervención (existencias publicas de Grana-
Padano y Parmigiano Reggiano) y existencias acreedoras a la ayuda para el almacenamiento
privado.
Las cifras de las existcncias de Finlandia se refieren a las existencias al por mayor de las
centrales lecheras.
Respecto del Japón, las cifras se refiercn a las existencias de leche entera en polvo en
manos de los fabricantes, mientras que en el caso de la leche desnatada en polo y Ia
mantcquilla los datos corresponden no s6lo a las existencias mantenidas por los fabricantes
sino tambien a las de la LIPC (Corporacion de Fomcnto de la Industria Pecuaria). Las cifras
de la producci6n dc queso son estimacioncs.
En todas las cifras de las existencias de Nueva Zelandia figuran las cxistencias para la
exportaci6n y las destinadas al mercado intemo. Las existencias oficiales son nulas. En las
estadisticas de la leche desnatada en polo figuran tambien la leche parcialmente desnatada y
la crema en polvo. Las estadisticas de la leche entera en polo incluyen los alimentos para
lactantes. Las cifras de producci6n de grasas lacteas anhidras de i987 incluven aquellas
dcrivadas de la mantequilla.
Las cifras de Noruega referentes al queso incluven el queso de suero y el queso fundido.
En el caso de Polonia, las cifras del queso comprenden uinicamente los quesos de
maduraci6n y fundidos.
Las cifras de la producci6n de mantequilla de Suecia no incluven -Bregott" (1987: 22.SOO
toneladas, 1988: 21.400 toneladas).
Las cifras de la mantequilla correpondientes a Suiza incluven la mantequilla
resolidificada. Las cifras trimestrales de la producci6n de queso son estimaciones. Las cifras
