Internet Guru Shares Incredible Sites to Visit GENEVA -- “Internet Guru” Ken Leebow was in town on Tuesday to share tips on great Web sites for older adults to visit, including ways to keep an eye on what grandchildren are up to. Leebow, author of “300 Incredible Things to Do on the Internet,” suggested that grandparents might want to visit sites such as www.myspace.com and www.facebook.com to see whether their grandchildren were putting too much personal information on the web, thereby jeopardizing their own safety. “These sites have been called a predator’s candy store,” said Leebow, whose presentation was sponsored by Tallgrass at Mill Creek, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community (CCRC) under development at the award-winning Mill Creek residential development just west of Geneva. Leebow, who also has a book aimed at mature Internet users, talked about many fascinating online opportunities for older users, such as listening to vintage radio broadcasts (www.radiolovers.com), starting their own “blog” (www.blogger.com), sending text messages to their grandchildren’s cell phones (www.teleflip.com), and checking out their hometown newspaper (www.paperboy.com). “It was very informative. Mind boggling, really,” said Daisy Agres of Naperville who attended the presentation. “I learned a lot of things I never knew, and my husband and I have been internet savvy for a long time. I might even start a blog.” Leebow also talked to audience members about being judicious in their internet searches. “Never, never give your personal information to a Web site that you clicked to through an email,” he said.
