Course Outcome

By the end of this course, you will be able to design and develop an online course with
         sound strategies of instructional design.

Lesson Objectives

Identify the development of historical processes that led to Online Design.
Identify the new cognitive abilities of the 21st Century Learner.
Create a model document to establish as a template for all documents in the D2L shell, or
         related LMS (Learning Management System).

Activities

Create a model document to establish as a template for all documents in the D2L shell, or
         related LMS (Learning Management System).

Introduction

An online course is only as good as its instructional design. You can say the same thing about a face-to-
face course, but online, the importance of instructional design gets magnified because you have less
flexibility to change assignments, due dates, quizzes, etc., while you are actually teaching.

Therefore, it is imperative that you design your course with solid instructional design principles in mind
in order to avoid student confusion, to keep your students on task, and ultimately, to enhance learning.

In this workshop, you will learn basic instructional design principles, which will become the foundation
that you will build your course upon.

    1. A brief History and the research

    2. 21st Century Learner.

    3. Working with Documents. Examples of Poor/Good Design

    4. Lab-activity (Develop a Template from one document)

    5. ADA compliance will be addressed during instruction and lab

                                                    1

Working with documents

    1. PDF
       1. Requires more memory space than htm or word
       2. Better print quality
       3. Better Design Quality
       4. Appears quickly inside the D2L frame (student view)

    2. Htm
       1. Less memory space than pdf or word
       2. Poor print quality
       3. Limited design abilities
       4. Quick & easier to upload & edit
       5. Appears quickly inside the D2L frame (student view)

    3. Word Documents
       1. More memory space than htm, but less than pdf
       2. Download time is frustrating
       3. Great ability to edit & design documents
       4. DO NOT UPLOAD to D2L!!!!!!!!!! Only is you have students complete something in Word.
