Profile
Churchill was founded in the mid 1960s as a residential town supplying workers to the nearby coal and electricity fields in the Latrobe Valley. It is the location of the Gippsland campus of Monash University, and as such there is
a large proportion of persons aged 18-24 years (17%) compared to many country towns. The town's population has declined by one-third since 1986, particularly persons aged under 45 years.
