We are running an HP-6890 GC/MS using HP Chemstation MS software and are wondering if we are using the best available software. Our quandry comes because we are also running several Shimadzu GC-14A's with the Shimadzu Class-VP software (which we would like to replace with more capable software) and would like to run all of the instruments with one data acquisition system. Ideally, we would be able to read the old Shimadzu/EZChrom file format as well as the Chemstation MS format. I saw that ChemSW has software to read all of these formats so that may not be of the utmost importance, but what is important is that we can acquire GC/MS data from the HP, as well as data from three additional Shimadzu GC- 14A's with two detectors each. Does anybody have any recommendations here as to the best software solution? Thanks Nathan Zaugg ************************************************************************ ****** ************************************************************************ ****** From: "Philippe Lévi" <nospam.levi.philippe@free.fr> Date: Sat, 10 Mar 2001 11:43:09 GMT Subject: Re: Acquisition software for use with GC/MS and GC Organization: Guest of ProXad - France Look at the Target software from Thruput Systems (part of ThermoFinnigan Co.) at http://www.tp.com It has no instrument control, but reads datafiles from almost all manufacturers and uses a database system (Target DB) to consolidate all lab-oriented work. Don't know if you may ever find a unique data acquisition system, but at least this would help a lot. I don't know if it will work with the Shimadzu. You can save data files in the ChemStation or native Galaxy file format. The data analysis software is very nice. You will need the CSW product to convert your Shimadzu files to a format that can be read by the Galaxy software (ChemSatation format). Regards; David -- O. You can acquire the data and interface it to the Chemstation using diferent HPIB addresses for each Shimadzu GC. This will allow you to use Chemstation to manipulate the data. You still must operate the Shimadzu systems from there respective front panels as the HP Chemstation will not control the GC's only the data signal. GenTech Scientific can give you more information.
