Our approach to Trade Finance Training
Providing effective Trade Finance solutions to companies involves an understanding of a number of key
issues relating to their financing strategy and options, as well as the risks they are exposed to in the
process from acquisition of raw materials to collection of sales proceeds.
There is no one “right way” to finance trade transactions, but a series of options. In our Trade Finance
training programmes, using a range of transactions, we illustrate the practical use of Trade Finance, and
address the various questions arising from trade transactions. An important related issue is control of the
transaction at all stages of the process – to protect any underlying security interest in the transaction
being financed as well as to minimise the possibility of fraud.
We cover the entire trade cycle:

          Producing Country Consuming Country

Our Approach to Project Finance Training
Project Finance has developed beyond its roots as a financing tool for greenfield projects to become a
technique used in areas such as Public Private Partnerships and acquisition of single project companies.
The range of projects has extended beyond traditional areas such as Real Estate developments to
include areas such as utilities, natural resources, transportation, infrastructure and public sector projects
including schools and hospitals.
In DC Gardner Training Project Finance programmes, we provide practical training, based on case
studies, to illustrate the key issues in evaluating and structuring transactions. Each course is tailored to
our client’s needs and business emphasis, whilst covering core issues relevant to Project Finance.

                               Project Finance Modelling
Construction of a Project Finance model is more than a mathematical and computer spreadsheet
building exercise. This is why, on our Project Finance modelling programmes, we also look at building a
financial model as a tool in the negotiation and structuring of a Project Finance solution.
Our modelling courses typically cover the following areas:

         1. Good practice in designing, documenting and auditing a Project Finance model

                2. Useful Excel functions, and use of other financial analysis software

                       3. Checking the viability of the underlying assumptions

             4. Translating the key operating assumptions into the financial statements

                 5. Modelling the financial structure, including the use of derivatives

6. Illustrating the viability of the model for the various stakeholders in the project – does the project
produce acceptable results for users of the project output, as well as debt and equity providers?

                      7. Assessing the impact of changes in key assumptions –
from sensitivity analysis to Monte Carlo simulation

                 8. Effective presentation of the output of the Project Finance model

We will of course tailor our Project Finance Modelling courses to the specific needs of your organisation.
