OVERALL OBJECTIVES OF COURSE: The objective of the course is to introduce students to basic concepts and techniques of Managerial Accounting. Emphasis is placed on analysis of business problems in which Accounting issues are dominant elements. TEXTBOOK AND SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL WARREN (Custom-1A ONLINE) FINANCIAL AND MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING (CH 13, & 15-27) with WebCT Access ISBN# 0324687729 The bundle is on a separate shelf with the words “online class” in red on the side. Do not purchase the workbook. COURSE REQUIREMENTS Accounting is a complex and sometimes confusing subject. To grasp the material and receive a passing grade requires a substantial time investment. This is especially true for this online class. As with any accounting course it is important to not fall behind. The main reason students are not successful in an online class is they do not schedule their time as they do for a traditional class; procrastination is the enemy of online students In addition to your textbook, the website contains many study aids. These include instructional videos, practice quizzes, and games. You can use these aids as many times as you like. One former student remarked that the lectures were better than face-to-face because you could watch them over and over. HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS, QUIZ AND TEST DATES Homework Assignments Homework assignments including discussion questions, tests and quizzes are due by 8:00AM Tuesday morning on the dates indicated below. The times indicated on the website are Eastern Standard Time and are 3 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time.
All chapter homework assignments are to be completed using CengageNow. CengageNow is accessed from the course website. The grades are sent directly to the instructor, and you don’t have to do anything once you finish the homework. CengageNow gives you instant feedback, you can try the problems and exercises as many times as you like, the grades you have on Tuesday morning at 8:00AM are the only ones that count. Instructions for using CengageNow are located on the course website and will be reviewed during the orientation.. Do not wait until the last minute; allow time for computer and other problems. There are no points allowed for late assignments. . Tests and Quizzes Tests and quizzes can be taken any time after 8AM the Saturday (this is a change this semester) before the date they are due. One hour is allowed for quizzes and 2.5 hours for tests, and 3 hours for the final. They must be completed by 8:00AM Tuesday. Instructions for taking the tests and quizzes are provided during the orientation and also on the website.
In Previous semesters there were no points allowed for late quizzes and tests, students could not take quizzes or tests late. However, students taking this class sometimes find that they cannot take a quiz or test when it is assigned. Students can miss up to two quizzes (the average of the other quiz scores will be given for them) and one test (the average grade on the final will be given for this exam = final exam points/260 x 125), these computations will be done at the end of the semester; the grades will show zero points up to this time. It is not a good idea to miss either quizzes or tests, since the questions on tests are similar to those on the quizzes and questions on the final are similar to those on the tests (in some cases they are the same questions).
