This is our nextto-last meeting of the year. Women's Club on April 29 The March meeting of Women's Club was canceled due to the weather and the program on sewing has been rescheduled. Learn how knowledge of fabrics and sewing can relate to your wardrobe and your household. Phone: 903-844-9246 Web site: www.ucgeasttexas.org volunteers. Camp this year will be held at High Pockets Ranch in Montgomery from June 7th – June 10th. We are delighted to again use this new facility owned and operated by longtime members Paul & Christine Whitley and family! With superb facilities and dozens of preteens from across our region eager to come to camp, we are anticipating another outstanding camp this year. Activities will include swimming, fishing, kayaking/canoeing, arts & crafts, Christian Living, recreation, music, archery/riflery (optional) as well as camp Olympics and our traditional talent show, along with the chance to spend four days together living God’s way! We are announcing the unique opportunity for both degreed (and those “not quite” finished with college), qualified young adults in your congregations to consider teaching at the 10-month United Youth Corps projects in Amman, Jordan, August 2009 to June 2010. The deadline to apply has been extended to May 1, 2009. Please see the information center for more details! Assist Members in Zambia This June, United Youth Corps volunteers are going to be teaching English skills and basic computer skills to members and young adults in the African nation of Zambia. We are looking for any laptop computers that might not be needed any longer that members would be willing to DONATE for use to teach members basic skills on the computer. The project is in early June, so anyone that has a laptop that would fit the profile needed--would need to get the machine to one of the addresses below before the end of May. Laptops should have Windows XP or greater installed, be in good working order and have minimum of 256K of RAM, 20 gig of HDD space. The battery should work and come with a working power cord. Also, any system installation discs would be most helpful, too. While NOT required (as we can install) it would be helpful if the laptops also had Microsoft Office 2003, Adobe reader 8, and AVG antivirus installed. If anyone has a laptop that they can DONATE--please first EMAIL either Doug Horchak (doug_horchak@ucg.org or Zach Zimmerman at zimmermanz@uky.edu ). We would like to acquire any donated laptops as soon as possible--receiving them no later than May 25th. Thank you for your consideration! Houston Preteen Camp Applications for our Houston Preteen Camp are now available online for campers as well as teen and adult GCE Weekend—May 2 The next meeting of the General Conference of Elders will be over the weekend of May 2-4. Ruston will meet at the Howard Johnson’s. Texarkana will combine with East Texas. Both locations will connect to the cybercast services from Cincinnati on Sabbath, May 2, which will begin at 1 PM. We ask that you be in your seats a few minutes early so the sound crew can be sure the connection and projector are working properly. New United Youth Corps Project Please go to members.ucg-houston.org/preteen-camp to download applications. The cost for camp is $125 per camper if the early registration deadline of May 8th is met, which means applications must be postmarked by this date. After the May 8th postmark deadline, the cost of camp will be $150 per camper. Due to High Pockets Ranch being able to lower the cost of each camper, there will not be a discount for additional family members attending camp. There is no cost for the volunteer staff. If anyone would like to offer a scholarship for a camper or know of a camper who needs financial assistance to attend camp, please contact Mr. Jim Servidio or Elisa Hees in the Houston North congregation, or your local pastor. We look forward to seeing you at “Camp High Pockets Ranch”! Feast Registration Registration for the 2009 Feast of Tabernacles began April 11, and continues until April 25, which is next Sabbath.
