Who can become an Associate?
There are two different types of candidate:
1. Enrolment ready – need to complete the required
amount of relevant work experience
2. Assessment ready – already gained the required
amount of work experience
– 4+ years experience
– 2+ years experience plus an approved NVQ3, HND
or HNC
– 1 year experience plus a non-accredited surveying
related degree

How to qualify
You register and pay online, through the Associate website
Step one - Registration www.rics.org/associate
Once the registration is complete you will be shown your assessment plan.
Step two – Assessment plan This plan will set out your requirements for the Associate Assessment.
Evidence of work-based experience and structured development is recorded
Step three – Portfolio of evidence on the Managed Learning Environment (MLE)
Once you have met all the requirements outlined in your assessment plan
Step four – Associate Assessment
you will be ready to come forward for Associate Assessment
20 multiple choice questions, you must get 15 correct to pass. The
Step five – Ethics module
questions are based around the RICS‟ 12 ethical standards

Pathway to MRICS
To reach Level 3 - the ability to offer reasoned advice and greater
depth of technical knowledge
Current path:
– Accredited conversion course plus APC final assessment
New path:
– Likely to take 4 years and 900 study hours after AssocRICS
– Study modules provided by accredited universities, third party
training providers and employer training schemes (up to 300
hours)
