Casual Technician
Job description
Purpose of Post
To provide technical assistance to our programmed performances, hired events and
art gallery on a casual basis. This will typically include get ins and outs, setting up
and operating lighting, sound, and AV equipment.
Report to: Technical Manager, Deputy Technical Manager
Management of: N/A
Member of: Technical Department
Principal Responsibilities
Technical Theatre
Assistance with load ins and load outs.
Set-up and operate Sound, Lighting, and AV equipment.
Participate in set up and striking of sets.
Use of the counterweight and hemp flying system.
Assist with set up and striking of Gallery exhibitions.
Assist with hydraulic seating turn arounds.
Heavy manual handling of staging and equipment.
Help to maintain high standards throughout the run of a production.
Help to ensure proper use and maintenance of facilities, tools and equipment.
Any other duties that may be assigned to you by the Technical Manager or
Deputy Technical Manager.
Communications
Represent artsdepot with external stakeholders and the wider arts community,
building constructive relationships to further the work and profile of artsdepot.
Health and Safety
Ensure all operations are carried out within the relevant Health and Safety
legislation and that staff work within artsdepot’s Health and Safety policy.

Personal Specification
Essential
Physically fit enough to carry out the duties required and to work flexible hours.
You need to be self motivated, able to understand instructions and act on them
quickly and efficiently, be a good team worker and able to act on your own initiative
when required.
Good knowledge of operational aspects of theatrical lighting, sound, digital and AV
equipment.
Knowledge of general stage techniques including safe operation and use of
counterweight flying systems.
At least one year’s professional experience in the technical entertainment industry.
You need to be reliable and display good time keeping.
Excellent communication skills with self confidence and stature to represent
artsdepot to a wide range of clients and staff members.
Energetic and creative with a high level of enthusiasm.
Ability to prioritise and work under pressure with good time management
Willingness to work flexibly which will require evening and weekend work; all roles
will involve working on a 7 day rota including evenings, public holidays and
weekends.
Passionate about live performance.
Desirable
Relevant qualifications or training
Advanced knowledge of lighting, sound, AV, or rigging.
Carpentry skills
Experience with moving lights

Conditions of service
Hourly pay rate is £7.50 per hour
Regular opening hours of artsdepot will be from 9am until 11pm seven days a
week, with later opening on occasions, although this may be subject to change
This post will include out of office hours duties, such as evening meetings and
events. These are considered to be part of your core commitment to artsdepot.
You will be expected to actively participate in the implementation of the Arts Depot

You will be required to wear smart blacks for all shows; steel toe caps for load ins,
load outs, seating turn arounds and any other work involving heavy objects.
There is a mandatory 3 month probationary period.
All casual technical staff must be eligible to work in the UK and proof must be
provided if you are invited to an induction and before any shifts start.
Detailed terms and conditions will be outlined in the staff handbook
which will be given to you if your application is successful.
