The Unfortunate Misunderstanding Melodrama Script Scene One Arrangement of Wedding Maryam: So Mum and dad, have you yet decided when our wedding is going to be? You do know that Peter has only three weeks off. Setareh: Well we were thinking a month from now, you see Aunt Penny and Uncle Spencer were going to visit us then. But I guess we will have to choose a sooner date. Why don’t you both take a walk in the garden while we decided then? Maryam: Sure, come on darling lets go. Nasser: After you. [Maryam and Nasser walk in the garden] Dora: So what do you think? I suppose we can rush it, but I was planning the perfect one like ours. [pause] I really miss our wedding day John, it was like heaven. I would love to relive our wedding when having Maria’s wedding. [stares at Setareh in desire]. Setareh: I know, I cannot believe it past so easily. Over 30years now. Do you think its alright with you to have the wedding next week? … So sooner? Dora: Sure.. but .. oh here they come. [Maryam and Nasser come in] Maryam: So Mother, father have you decided yet? Setareh: Yes darling, we have. What do you think about a week from now? Just before your honeymoon. Nasser: Oh that’s fantastic. But what about the organization? Dora: That’s what I was worried about? Setareh: Oh Susan, don’t you remember you designed our wedding and it was gorgeous. Don’t you feel young anymore to do it again? Maryam: Please mother, pretty please, do it for us too. Dora: Awww ,, I suppose I can. [smiles] Maryam: Thank you mother, I suppose we have enough time to prepare our wedding. Nasser: What have you in plan? Maryam: Well, first we are going to go to the holy church, and then come back to the oh’ heavenly garden! Nasser: Perfect my darling. Ohh, lost track of time! I have to get going, I’ll be back for dinner. Toodles darling. Toddles Mr. & Mrs. Williams. Setareh & Dora: Toddles. Dora: We’ll be waiting for dinner Peter, don’t be late! Scene Two Poisoned Dinner Mother is preparing dinner. Girl and Dad are planting flowers for wedding. Mother goes to garden and calls them in. Dora: Darling, Honey come in, dinners ready. We cannot wait longer for Peter. Villain enters from back door [pink panther music] Villain: Hmm.. which one must be the mother’s seat? Ahh.. this is where she was sitting yesterday. Dear lord, hope it’s the mothers seat. Mwahahaha. Villain escapes. They come in. Maryam: Peter said he’d be here in time, I wonder whats happened to him. What if he had an accident! What if he had an asthma attack! I must go after him! [dramatically] Dora: Honey, please. He’s a big boy and he can handle himself. I will save a dish aside for him. Setareh: Yes your mother’s right. He can handle himself and he would probably have a good reason for his absence. Maryam: You’re right. But its just I love him to much. Dora: I'm so happy my little girl is getting married already. It seems like yesterday where you were in your cradle. [cries] Setareh: I know, I cannot bear a second without you honeybunch. Maryam: I will still be your little princess father and your little helper mother. I will never forget about you. Mother cries with many tissues. They start eating. Mother starts coughing. Maryam: What’s wrong? Dora: Ohh nothing much, just my lungs are bothering me. Setareh: Where are you planning your honeymoon Maria? Maryam: If Peter gets enough money, then we might go to Italy, if not then we might as well just go to a hotel at the North of London. We are… Dora coughs terribly, failing to breathe Dora: H..E..L..P …. Me..e.e.e.e…I can..not breathe….. Setareh: Susan, its probably because of the chilli in this soup. Dora: No…. oo.. Maryam: Ohh mother, I told you to have your pills before you eat, not after. Have a sip of your water. Dora: I cannot see any longer. I…. love .. you… Setareh: Honey, Susan, I will call somebody for your help. Please get up. Maria, pass the water. Dora moves a little and dies. Maryam: Oh Mother, Oh Mother, Please wake up. Shakes mother and pushes her chair. Maryam: What is going on. I cannot bear this any longer. Take me with you. Maryam faints. Setareh: Munchkin, wake up, nothings happened. Get up Princess. Oh what am I going to do. Splashes water on Maryam. Maryam moves. Maryam: Where am I,, ohhhh… Maryam faints again. Setareh buries her face in her hands. Scene Three The unexpected neighbour. The drags the mother and daughter to the other side of the room, when there is a somebody at the door. Setareh: Anybody there? Peter? Setareh opens. Setareh: Yes, may I help you? Lara: That exactly what I am here for? May I help you? Setareh: Pardon me? Lara: I am the new neighbour just across the roadSetareh: Sorry but I have a crisis going on and this is not a good time to introduce introduce yourself Mister. Lara: That’s exactly why I am here for, to help you with your wife and your daughter. Lara (villain) invites herself in. Lara: My, What a warm cosy house. So where is this daughter of yours?.. Ohh and Wife? Setareh: They are at the side of the living room. Please hurry, my wife has a strong failure for breathing. Lara: So is this the daughter of yours, beautiful I say Setareh: Yes, Yes, but leave that for later, concentrate on my wife. Villain listens to the heart beating of Dora. Lara: I am very so to say this sir, but she has stopped breathing. However ! Your beautiful daughter is alive! Aren’t you fortunate eh? Setareh: I loved my wife, we have a big even next week and she was going to organize it! What am I going to do now? Lara: Event? What event? Looks evilly at Setareh. Setareh: It was going to be my daughters wedding next week but now.. I don’t know. Lara: Sir, I have very shocking news for you. While I was gardening my flowers, I happened to see a man sneak into your house. He had black clothes one. It was quite hard to recognize, especially that I'm new, but all I can say that he had black hair and he was neither tall nor short. Setareh: Are you sure you saw it in this house? Or maybe it was myself? Lara: No. I am very very positive. You and your beautifuuuuuull daughter were gardening and your wife came to call you in for dinner. Setareh: I’m sorry, but I'm not following. We can have a chitchat later on, please lets look for a solution fight now. Lara: No! This is very important Sir! Don’t you understand! It means someone can to our house and poisoned your wife’s food! It’s simple as that! This is why your wife has died. Setareh: Um, are you sure? How do you know this happened? Maybe there has been a misunderstanding? But who do you suspect it was? Lara: Now that’s what I'm talking about! Um, I have seen that man at your house earlier one, but I have failed to find out who it was. Perhaps your son? Setareh: Peter? No, I don’t have a son, Peter is my daughter’s fiancée. Oh my god! Is that why he didn’t show up for dinner tonight! That means that bastard killed my wife !! Oh am I going to kill him when he comes over! Lara: [laughs evilly] Setareh: So say, what is your name mate? Lara: Samuel Petto sir. Setareh: So I was thinking, you have done a great favour amongst me and it greatly help our family since that beast could’ve killed my daughter and I too. So I would like to in return help you. What would you like me to do young man? Lara: It was my responsibility to protect neighbours from any harm, you make no difference with my own family. If you insist, I would like to ask for your daughter’s hand if you don’t want her to marry that.. that .. untruthful man. Setareh: Of course ! I would be my pleasure. I know what a wonderful man u are and my little princess would be just as proud. Its just that she hasn’t waken up yet. Is there anything you can do to help Sir Petto? Lara: Perhaps, I can take a look? … Ahhh, her heart is ticking better than my clock. Setareh: Thanks lord and to you my dear. It’s been a pleasure meeting you. Lara: Same goes. I have a medicine which can easily wake up the ones who have fainted and I'm guessing your dear daughter has faintedSetareh: Yes, Maria. Lara: Nice name she’s got. [puts potion in the mouth] Maryam: Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Who are you!! Oh Father, get me away from this man! Setareh: Pumpkin, this is Samuel, our new neighbour. Lara: Nice to meet you, Miss. Maria. Setareh: Maria, I will make this very clear for you. Peter is a murderer. Maryam: Father what are you talking about?! Why are you acting so mean to Peter now? Starts crying. Setareh: He was the one who killed mother. This Sir Samuel is a witness. Anyways that not what important. What important is that now you will marry this young gentleman who is much more better and handsomer. Maryam: Oh father, don’t do this to your little princess. I have loved Peter for two years now and I don’t want to leave him now and marry a man I don’t know. I am not going to make you. Villain whispers to the ear of Father. Lara: I will handle this. ,, ,, Dear PrincessMaryam: Call me Ms. Williams. Lara: Ms. Williams it is then. Won't you like a walk outside so make you feel better. Maryam: I guess it would make me feel better. Lara: Shall we go? Maryam groans and goes into the garden. They walk and the villain keeps telling her bad stuff about the hero and gets her to like himself. He then says: Lara: Will you marry me Oh dear Maria? Maryam blushes, looks around and she is very surprised. Then she nodds. They go back to the house. Lara: Done, she agreed to marry me Sir! Setareh: You are one genius heart taking man. Proud of you young man. Scene Four Falling in Love Maria and the Villain are sitting in the garden and are talking. Lara: Beautiful garden you have. Maryam: Yes, my mother designed it. It is also where she had her wedding. I truly miss her, if she was alive, then she would make our wedding perfect. Lara: Of course she would. But you know, in this world, people come and go. You have to get used to it. One day I might even go. Maryam: You are the handsomest man I've ever met. Lara: Even handsomer than that murderer that was going to marry you before? Maryam: Of course. I've already forgotten about that him now. But my mother chose him to be my husband, Peter was very nice and he always loved all of us, but I don’t know what happened to him that night after the agreement of the weddingLara: Dear, lets forget about him and arrange this wedding now, forget the past and leave all the sadness behind. Your mine now. Let me kiss you oh darling dearest. Maryam: No Sam, please leave that kiss for the wedding. Promise you will not do anything to me until then. Lara gets mad. Lara: Fine my dearest. But not even one little kiss? Maryam shakes her head. Lara: I guess every things got to wait just two days more. Well I’ve got to be going now. They hug. Maryam: Promise me that you will not disappear like Peter. Lara: I promise, but please do not say that murderer’s name again. He makes me shiver. Now, to our wedding. I plan to make it a beautiful and magical wedding for everyone. Now, I have planned out everything. We will have a huge party, with cakes, and as church which is reserved just for us. Maryam: Actually, my darling, my dad had already planned out everything. I mean, of course, I love your ideas and all, but my dad had planned to do a small festival just with our closest family and friends. I want to keep it that way and that is also how my mother had planned it; romantically in our garden… oh! It will be amazing… Lara: (stops abruptly and looks serious) Honey, let me make something very clear for you. You are soon to be my bride and then you are to obey me. I do not want you to disobey me, or else something bad will happen to you. I will respect and love you but as a return, you must say and do what I want…and be a good bride! (goes soft) And now, we shall do the after party in the garden… but the main festival will be in a large field and the whole country shall be there! Maryam: (looks scared) Honey! Please, I do not like it when you get angry. And I love you so I shall obey you with my life! Oh, honey I love you so much… and the wedding will be absolutely perfect! Lara: Yes! It shall be perfect… and now my dear bride I must leave you… I will see you tonight… to Maryam: Okay. Love you. Lara: Love you too. Lara leaves, Maryam blows a kiss. Scene Five Overhearing Rogue is walking through the forest and comes to a small shed. He looks inside and finds Samuel Greg sitting inside. He sneaks in to see what he is up to. (Talking to himself)Lara: I can not believe it, I can seriously not believe it! My plan actually worked! (Rogue whispers to himself)Rogue: What is the villain talking about? Mmmm, I think I’ll continue listening… Villain: I actually killed the mum of my “dearest bride” and now… hahaha the foolish maiden actually believed that her lover killed the mum. And now… I am marrying the most wanted maiden in the country… Oh how clever I am (evil gesture) Rogue: Oh my gosh! I can not believe it… I have to overcome myself and tell my friend the truth before the wedding… I knew it, Samuel Greg was an evil man who does not want to help… he just wants to rule the world… and he kills anyone in his way! Villain: I am.. yes I definitely am the most clever and evil man in the country. And how proud I am of that! Hahaha I murdered Suzanne (undertone) and that was enough for me to reach my goal. Rogue: I have to leave in case he hears something. Maybe if I just stay another few seconds. I believe that there is probably more to this plan than just the murder. Villain: And the best part; after I have married Maria, I can inherit the large Williams family fortune. After my evil plan has succeeded I will not need that foolish maiden or her father anymore. I will remove them as well! Rogue: Ah! (screams quietly) Villain: Did I hear something near me? Rogue: Oh my gosh! He heard me… I have to get out of here before her also does something to me! Villain stands up and goes towards the door. Rogue quickly runs into the forest and hides behind a tree. Rogue looks at watch and decides to go for a nap… The ghost of Susan Williams (mother) visits the villain and then the rogue. The mother is now at the villain’s house. Ghost: You beast! What are you going to do now?! You killed me now your getting my daughter! Oh I will not allow you get near her in that wedding dress. Villain opens eyes, looks around, doesn’t see anything and goes back to sleep. Ghost: Why did you kill me? To get my husband’s wealth? Ha! You fool, too stupid to figure that he has his money all secretly locked up safely. Don’t catch me seeing you with my daughter at the church! She is meant to marry Peter, and she will. Villain: Peter. I will kill Peter (dream talking) Ghost: Ha. You sit back and enjoy. Showtime! I will not allow anything to happen to my family and I will take revenge. Hope the bed bugs bite and you die soon, or I will kill you myself Ghost goes to rogue. Ghost: Oh dear Bobby, oh dear Bobby, our all-time favourite rogue, you must help me. You are sleeping, but your mind is in my hands. You shall obey what I say. I am the ghost of Susan Williams, Mother of Maria and Wife of John and I asked you for a favor. Please as soon as you wake up, get my message to John. Tomorrow at the wedding of Maria, Sameul Greg, the temporary fake neighbour is going to take Maria away from town and even country. I am trusting you to keep my family safe Bobby, please listen to what I have said. Rogue goes over to the dad Knocks on the door for a while since it is late night and everyone is slepping. Rogue: Mr. Williams! Mr. Williams! Please wake up! Open the door, for I have very important news to tell you! Oh Mr. William, please open the door. The Dad, opens the door. Dad: Bobby, whats wrong? What happened? Why you here this late? Scene Ends and goes to next! Scene Six The Inconvenient Truth Rogue: You will not believe what I just saw! Stop reading, I have more I important information for you: It was not Peter who killed your dear wife: It was Samuel Greg! I heard him talking to himself down at the shed in the forest! Dad: What, I do not believe this… you have lied so often and now Samuel and princess are so happy with each other. I do not believe you that Samuel killed my wife. It is impossible. He was so caring after my wife died… why would he lie or try to kill my wife? Rogue: No, I understand that you do not want to believe it… but it is for the good of your daughter. I have never lied to you about something important... trust me. And I really did hear Samuel speaking in the shed. Long silence occurs between the both and then dad stands up and talks Dad: That is true. I believe you now because you have never betrayed me in important moments. So I trust you. You can believe me, I never thought that this Samuel would make a good husband or son… he was too good to be true! Rogue: I am so sorry… I know how badly you wanted your princess to finally have a happy life. But I guess that now, Maria can marry the real hero: Peter. Yes, it was obvious that he was the real hero from the beginning and I knew that he would never do something so terrible… I mean, kill, a lady especially when Susan was so faithful and they were nice to each other! I can’t believe it… (shakes head) Dad: Yes, that Samuel fellow, he seemed weird from the beginning… (anger gesture) That scrupulous, mean and ignorant bastard! He killed my darling… he is going to pay for the terrible deed… Oh yes… I will definitely, and this time he IS the final murderer! Rogue: And, what the ghost also mentioned is that Samuel wanted to take Maria out of the city and even the town. It was really scary how “Suzanne” had control of me. She also explained that her family is in danger, so she also means you! Dad: That little, evil… thing! Oh imagine what he could have done to Maria if the they would have gotten married. But now, now I know the truth! Hahaha I am going to stop his marriage and confront him. All of my fellow mates will accompany him. Bobby, I suspect that you will be joing me? Rogue: Yes yes, of course. Dad: Great, I will now call for the hero to come to my estate so that I can apologize and tell him this drastic news. I am sure that he will be very surprised my my announcement. Then, he can have his bride and we can all take revenge! Now Bobby, I greatly thank you for your loyalty and shall see you at the church! Rogue: See you soon John and good luck with Peter. I hope you create the most evil and painful death for Samuel Greg… Rogue goes out the door and away. Scene Seven The plan of the hero The dad of the beautiful maiden is ever so angry that the villain: Samuel Petto used him to marry his princess. Now, he calls for the hero to come to the house of the parents and to discuss how they will revenge themselves to Samuel. The hero is surprised and immediately arrives at the home. Dad: Hello, my dear son. Just before you reply I have something to say… I do not know how I can make it up to you for really believing that you would kill my wife even though I should’ve used my common sense but I get angry at time, you know me don’t you. Deep down I know that you would never do such a treacherous and terrible act. Oh how sorry I am.. Hero: Oh, I forgive you father… that Samuel made it obvious that he does not like me and wanted to get rid of me. And now, my dear Maria is marrying that person, I cannot stand it, I think I will leave town since this will affect me emotionally… (grief) Dad: But we have to make a plan. A plan of revenge where that villain can feel what he did to my darling, what he did to the family and how he will trochee Maria from now on… Hero: I have an idea (twiddles fingers) Dad: Yes, come on tell me… we have to make up the best and meanest plan of them all to kill the meanest and cruelest man of them all! Hero: I know! We will confuse him! Lets act like nothing is wrong. I will not appear here until the marriage day and then at the church: he will pay for his dirty deeds! Dad: Yes, that is a good idea! It may work if we pull the plan through we may be able to trick that dirty villain! Hero: But we will have to be careful; Samuel Greg is a clever man who is an expert at doing nasty things. If we are careless, we will pay and he will pull his plan through. That nasty bastard who took away my wife (starts getting angry with gesture) He is going to pay (starts screaming) for doing that to my honey… Dad interrupts Dad: Now now Peter! If we are too loud, Samuel may hear us… he is everywhere ever since the engagement. I always felt a bit weird… its like he wants to investigate every single bit of my life… or my money! Maybe he wanted the fortune. Hero: Yes, yes of course. All people like that care about is money and power. He will kill anybody who stands in his way. Dad: Right, so we will take care. Make sure I don’t see you hear unti the two have left for the church to make last prepeartions. (stops)- Oh I cant bear to leave her alone with him again- Right, so I will meet you behind the forest and we can go to the church togther. Bobby is also joining us! Hero: Yes, that is a good idea. Don’t worry Samuel would not touch your daughter until the yare married. He wants the money to badly!!! I will not appear before the minute of revenge! Dad: See you Peter. And thanks for all your help. Be careful when you leave the estate not to be seen! Hero: Good-Bye! Hero leaves carefully. Scene Eight The Wedding with a Twist The next day and everybody is waiting in the church for the couple to come down the aisle. As the villain and maiden step into the church, instead of hearing cheering, everybody starts booing. The villain does not know who heard him speaking. The maiden starts crying. Dad comes and pulls her away from the villain… Villain: What do you think you are doing to my wife (screams at dad). (To bride) Come on darling… I do not know what this fuss is about… It is our special day and no one is going to ruin it (pulls wife with him) Come on, come with me… we cannot waste anymore time. It’s the wedding! Your lifetime chance to feel how your mother felt. Maria: Hey, how do you know about my mother and how she thought? Villain: UrrDad: That was a fine plan you worked out my “dear GENIUS Samuel”. First, you kill my wife.. and then you take my princess as a bride! Then planning to steal my money! Ha, but now you are caught and you will pay real bad for your mistakes! Villain: What on earth are you talking about? I can not believe this bloody crap… first, I come and help you and now you are accusing me… this is so silly… (shakes head) I can not believe it and will not because Peter is just jealous of me and wants to then come and kill you,, just wait till you see. Maryam: What on earth is happening? Who killed mother…. I don’t understand anything anymore! Dad: My little princess…. I am so sorry that you had to encounter life with this man! Hero rushes in. Nasser: There you are…. I am not finished with you! Villain gets pulled outside (Dad and hero push villain outside of the church because they are not allowed to fight inside the church. Outside, the two start a fight) Lara: What is this nonsense about? I can not believe that my wife is getting taken away. And before, John, I helped you with your wife… and now! You’re accusing me! I can not believe it!!! Nasser: What! You took away my darling by taking the life of her mother. You are such a treacherous man! Lara: Well helooooooooo she did not even love you… she even told me that you have always been a messed up weirdo!!! Nasser: Oh yeh? Well maybe because she did not know that you killed her mother! (Starts to take out sword) Lara: I did not do it! (Two fight for a while, screaming and shouting at each other. Maryam comes out of church) Maryam: What are you two doing? Stop it. Stop it!!! I don’t love anyone right now until I hear the truth…(stops because Rogue and dad step out of church) Nasser and Lara: It was him!!! (Point at each other) Mohammed: I know what happened (proud). Yes it was me who found out : ME!!! (screams) Dad: Everybody stop! Here is the truth: That bastard Samuel Petto, poisoned my wife that night. He sneaked into the house, sneaked back out, changed and told me he was a kind neighbor. He made sure that I believed that it was my dear Peter who did that deed. But now I know better. Bobby came running to me yesterday with shocking news. He was standing in the shed and talking to himself about his murder to my dear! Bobby heard him and then ran away. As ghe fell asleep, a ghost came which was the osul of Suzanne and she told him the truth! Lara: WHAT??? I can not believe it… well fine… my dear Maria lets go and marry now… surely you stand to me don’t you? (takes Maria) Maryam: No. Now I know the truth: Peter I love you so much and I am so sorry about everything that happened! Mohammed: Yes. Yes the end as come to this terrible plan and now: it is time for you bastard, Mr. Petto to pay for your dirty deeds! You are to die. Lara: (runs away form Maria towards Mohammad with knife) How dare you! You little know it all! TYou are the cheater! (Puts knife down) At the same time, Peter goes behind villain and stabs him with the sword) Lara: How could you do this? Please forgive me… darling Maria I love you please forgive me!! Mohammed: No! You have done terrible deeds and now, this is what you deserve! Die well my dear Samuel! Hopefully this taught you a good lesson! Maryam: Yes… I can not believe that I feel for you bastard! I am so, so sorry Peter; I never really stopped loving you and deep down I always knew that you would never do such an evil act! And dad, I would never have thought that something this terrible would happen in our neighboorhoud!! Setareh: Yes, it is really shocking… in our Hughville… a villain! (Shakes head) Nasser: (puts arm around Maryam) Now darling… remember? We had a marriage planned and I think that today it is the perfect day! Lets go and turn this day around. Lara (villain) dies and coughs one last time. Nasser: As I was saying…. Seeing as this mischievious nasty piece of work is gone and wont bother us again, we can go and celebrate! Setareh: That would be great! Finally, it is your dream marriage my little princess… Oh! How I have waited for this day and now I know that it is the correct man. Mohammad: Yes!!! It is a happy ending: all thanks to me. (Proud) See guys I told you, you have to listen to me much more often… everything would end happily (grins cheeky) Setareh: Now, now I remember times when you were rather mischeivious… but never mind! Lets go!!! Maryam, Setareh, Nasser and Mohammad go into the church happily. Maryam and Nasser use love gestures. Everyone cheers as Nasser and Maryam get married. Use lots of gestures. Setareh exaggerates and starts crying. Mohammad: Oh! This is so perfect… (smiles romantically) Setareh: My little princess…. Oh Bobby! Look at her (Blows in tissue and exaggerates) she is getting marries to Peter… Suzanne would have been so proud of her! Everyone freezes in a happy and romantic gesture. THE END
