welcome
de Gruchy is one of the oldest
department store retailers in the UK
and Channel Islands trading in Jersey
for almost two hundred years. As such,
it is now seen as part of the 'fabric' of St
Helier and enjoys a reputation way
beyond the shores of Jersey…

The store occupies a landmark building
in a 100% prime pitch in the town's
main shopping area, King Street.
Originally developed as a department
store, de Gruchy currently trades from
76,000 sq ft and is the largest retail
outlet in the Channel Islands. Due to its
purpose built nature the store has vast
open floors that are perfect for today's
retail requirements.

Acquired by the Ulster Stores Group in
November 2006 de Gruchy is about to
undergo the next phase of a multi
million investment programme securing
its position as the most exciting retail
destination in the Channel Islands. This
will complete in time for the store to
celebrate its bicentenary in style.

The stunning architectural grandeur of
the arcade will be brought to life with
the restoration of the original features.
The arcade forms an important link
between King and New Street, with
strong footfall. Currently under used,
this valuble space will be a focal point
and house Fashion Accessories,
Hosiery, Jewellery and Watches.

Colour is an important consideration
and we have chosen a rich plum palette,
reflecting a regal and traditional image
but with a modern twist. The existing
terrazzo floor will be refurbished to
restore it back to its original quality and
lustre.

The accessories fixtures will be bespoke
and in keeping with the architectural
columns and mouldings. The area is
already naturally broken into sections,
and these have been utilised in the
scheme. Stylish but flexible display
features, in rich jewel-like colours will
house a variety of merchandise. These
will in themselves be simple designs to
enhance the existing architecture. Burlington Arcade

fashion floor
The existing first floor Fashion and
Lingerie departments will receive a
stunning new look. Access will also be
greatly improved with the opening up of
the main escalator during the ground
floor works.

Hosting an extensive selection of
exciting brands, giving each their own
identity will be a priority. Mid floor,
vertical branding plinths strategically
located will help define the space.
                                            fashion link to homeware
With a more contemporary feel there
will be the opportunity to introduce new
brands that will bridge the gap between
the ground floor and first floor fashion
offer.

A new relaxed contemporary coffee
shop is proposed, sited at the end of the
floor it will benefit from the window
opening out into King Street. Not only
will this increase footfall, but act as a
meeting point and extend time spent
within the fashion floor.

                                  the future...
“de Gruchy’s individual style, range of
merchandise and great team of people
already make it a unique shopping
experience. de Gruchy now enters an
                                  exciting period of development and
change, a process that will deliver
                                  tremendous opportunities for the
business and existing or new brand
                                  partners.

Exciting plans have been drawn up for
the New Street side of the store to turn
                                  car parking, storage and underutilised
space into a stunning new retail
                                  environment.

Throughout the planning process I have
strived to balance the character and
heritage of the past with the
requirements of the future. I believe
that the finished product will do just
                                  that - a sensational shopping
                                  experience!”
