MV Kids Learn About Popcorn
Learn Popcorn
Popcorn has been around for thousands of years with the old-
est ears of popcorn found in a bat cave in New Mexico. The
popcorn ears were approximately 4,000 years old. It is even be-
lieved that long before corn on the cob, popcorn was the first kind
of corn grown and eaten. It was an important part of ancient Az-
tec Indian ceremonies when women wore them as garlands around
their necks. Today, people use strung popcorn as garland for
Christmas trees.
Popcorn remains a very popular snack, so much so that in
1982, the first and only popcorn museum in the world opened in Marion, Ohio. Known as the Wyandot
Popcorn Museum, a display of antique popcorn makers adorn what was once a U.S. Post Office. For
the past several years, the Wyandot Popcorn Museum has hosted the Marion Popcorn Festival,
which has attracted over 250,000 people. The Popcorn Festival is held on the first weekend after
Labor Day.
Old Maids How does popcorn pop?
