                                          SUMMER 2009 NEWSLETTER

GARBAGE CANS/RECEPTACLES: We are moving this item to the top of the list. No matter how much we
remind people, this is the biggest headache we have. Garbage cans must be kept out of view from the street. Cans
or receptacles should be stored in your backyard or garage except for the day of pickup by Waste Management. DO
NOT LEAVE TRASH OR TRASH CANS SITTING NEXT TO (OR IN FRONT OF) YOUR GARAGE EXCEPT
FOR TUESDAYS & FRIDAYS.

POOL TAGS: North Woodland Hills is participating in the Pool Tag Program again for 2009. Pool tags were
distributed on Sunday April 26 and Sunday May 3 to all homeowners/renters whose dues are paid in full. We had
approximately 130 homes stop by for tags. If you were not able to pick up tags during those times, please visit the
management company (Sterling ASI, 562 Kingwood Drive, Suite 13, Kingwood, TX 77339, phone number 281-
447-3388). The cost will be $10/family. This is a charge from the management company, not the HOA. Their
contract does not include distribution of pool tags and it takes time out of their schedules to perform this service.
Note: Please do not come to the pool thinking you can get tags from the lifeguards. They do not have them. The
tags are at Sterling’s offices. 2009 tags are fluorescent orange this year. Last years’ tags will no longer be accepted.
Each resident is welcome to bring one guest. Tags must be in plain sight to the lifeguards at all times.

POOL and PARK: The pool is being managed by Jeff Ellis & Associates again this year, and we are very happy to
have many returning guards. These guys and girls undergo many, many hours of training and are the most capable
team in Kingwood. The pool will be open May 23rd through 25th (Memorial Day Weekend) and May 30th & 31st
(the following weekend). The pool will officially open on Thursday June 4th (last day of school is June 3rd) till
Sunday Aug 23rd (first day of school is Aug 24th). Once school starts, the pool will be open weekends only till the
last weekend in September. Pool hours are:

> Mondays - Closed (except for holidays)
> Tues -Thur 10:00 am till 8:00pm
> Fri & Sat 10:00 am till 9:00pm
> Sun 10:00am till 8pm

Ellis & Associates will be offering swim lessons as in the past. For more information, please contact
richard.marshall@jellis.com after June 1.

The playground, park and full-press basketball court are open 7 days a week during daylight.

COLLECTION UPDATE: We have a good news-bad news situation here. Even though we have been successful
in collecting some of the older dues since our 2008 Winter Newsletter went out, we still have $52,519.42 in
uncollected 2009 dues and approximately $23,000 in uncollected 2004-2008 dues. Be assured the board is, and will
continue to be, very aggressive in collection efforts. We are working diligently with the attorneys on these
collection matters. NOTE: YOU WILL INCUR ATTORNEY FEES IF SENT FOR COLLECTION. If you owe
any dues, please contact the management company to arrange for payment.

WOODLAND HILLS TRAILS ASSOCIATION: Each and every homeowner of North Woodland Hills pays
annual dues of $70 to the Woodland Hills Trails Association. The NWH Board has three representatives also on the
Trails Board – Marcia Powell, Betty Millard and Sander Mak. If you or your family see something on or along the
trails that needs attention, please let us know. If you have questions, comments or suggestions for the Trails Board,
please attend one of their meetings – the last Tuesday of each month at the South Woodland Hills Village
Community Room at 7 p.m. Signs are always posted at the entrances to the subdivision several days before the
meetings. WE WOULD ALSO REMIND YOU THAT THE TRAILS ARE NOT TO BE USED FOR DUMPING
TRASH, LIMBS, GRASS CLIPPINGS, ETC.

GARAGE SALES: Village-wide garage sales are held the last Saturday in April and the last Saturday in
October. Outside of these two garage sales, all others are a violation of Deed Restrictions. The sale is restricted to
your own yard, or neighbors can get together and have one large sale. There is no cost except if you advertise. Once
again we will post signs at the village entrances and advertise on our website and Kingwood.com.
POST-HURRICAN IKE CLEAN-UP: We are now going on eight months post-Ike and we still have homeowners
with tarps/trees on their roofs, brush/debris around their property, and/or fences being held up by 2 x 4’s. This is a
friendly reminder that unless you are awaiting funds from your insurance company, these items need to be cleaned
up immediately. Contact the management company if you are working with an insurance company and need
additional time. Also remember that you should check with Waste Management before setting anything out for
heavy trash pickup since it is not in their contract to pick up Ike debris. NOTE: Properties that are not maintained
are being turned over to the City of Houston for handling and are subject to fines.

ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL REVIEW (This is especially important for Hurricane Ike repairs):
INSTALLING A NEW ROOF, PAINTING YOUR HOME, PUTTING IN A NEW FENCE? REMINDER –
ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW FORMS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE BOARD PRIOR TO ANY OF
THE ABOVE EVENTS. These forms may be found on our website (www.kingwoodnwh.com) or can be obtained
from the management company, Sterling ASI, 562 Kingwood Dr., Suite 13, Kingwood, TX 77339. Please do not
hesitate to contract Richard Marshall (rwmarshall@aol.com) or Marcia Powell (marsho45@hotmail.com) should
you have any questions.

Non-compliance to rules and regulations of the Restrictive Covenants may result in fines and legal fees. Every
homeowner is given a copy of the Deed Restrictions at the time of closing. If you are unfamiliar with NWH’s
Restrictive Covenants, please contact the management company at Sterling ASI, 562 Kingwood Dr., Suite 13,
Kingwood, TX 77339 or look on the www.kingwoodnwh.com website to print out a copy.

SCHOOLS: Check out our village website www.kingwoodnwh.com and follow the links to Woodland Hills
Elementary School and PTA websites. To find out more information regarding area schools, boundaries, etc.,
please go to the Humble ISD website at http://www.humbleisd.net/education/school/. Remember school lets out for
the Summer on Wednesday, June 3rd. Remember all the little ones playing in our streets this Summer and please
drive carefully through our neighborhoods.

STREET LIGHTS: To report street light problems please call 713-207-2222. Make sure you have the number of
the pole before you call. This is required information and can be located running vertically down the front of each
pole. It’s approximately 6 digits. They will also request the street name and nearest cross street.

TRASH PICKUP: Trash pickup is with Waste Management Company (713-686-6666) and our pickup days are
Tuesday’s and Friday’s. Heavy trash pickup is every Friday. Contact Waste Management if you have questions
regarding rules and regulations for heavy trash pickup. If you are new to the neighborhood, please contract Waste
Management to begin your trash service. No trash will be picked up without the proper sticker displayed on your
garbage can. These are issued by Waste Management.

ANIMAL CONTROL: Stray dogs and cats can be picked up by the City of Houston through the Bureau of Animal
Control (BARC) at 713-229-7300. City of Houston Ordinance Chapter 6 Section 24 Defecation by Dogs and Cats:
Also note, officers are authorized to issue written citations as follows: Failure to promptly dispose of (dog) (cat)
feces. Failure to possess materials to remove (dog) (cat) feces. It is the duty of each person in control of a dog or
cat to promptly remove and dispose of in a sanitary manner, feces left by such dog or cat.

PARKING ON CITY STREETS: Work vehicles, trucks, trailers, etc. have become an increasing problem in our
neighborhood. Officers are writing parking tickets for those vehicles (commercial or private) that fail to park
legally. Remember when parking on our streets, ask yourself if a fire truck or ambulance is able to make its way to a
residence.

STORM SEWERS: These drains are for rainwater. They are not garbage disposals. If you see someone dumping
leaves or trash down a storm sewer, please call the City of Houston at 311 and file a report.

PINE NEEDLES/LEAVES ON ROOFS: Keep your roof clear of leaves and pine needles. They are fire hazards.
