									Craig, Alaska: The Craig City School Board is pleased to announce that four individuals have been
selected as finalists in the search for a new superintendent. It is anticipated that the new
superintendent will begin on July 1, 2009 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The Board is seeking a new superintendent following the resignation of Patrick Low who has served the
District for the 2008-2009 school year.
The Board elected to conduct a nationwide search and contracted with the Association of Alaska
School Boards to facilitate the process. The position was advertised beginning in early March and
closed May 8, 2008.
The finalists are:
    •   D. Allan Gee – current K-5 elementary school principal in Snellville, GA. Dr. Gee also served as
        an assistant middle school principal in Lawrenceville, GA; middle school principal in Kodiak, AK;
        K-12 principal in Wainwright, AK; and assistant high school principal in Jefferson, GA. He earned
        his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Georgia and his Doctorate
        in Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
    •   Steve Guerra – current middle school administrator and assistant to the superintendent in North
        Battle Creek, MI. Mr. Guerra has also served as a high school principal, junior high/high school
        assistant principal and director of alternative education in North Battle Creek, MI. He earned his
        Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University.
    •   Rick Pass – current superintendent in Knappa, OR. Dr. Pass also served as a junior high/high
        school principal in Ilwaco, WA and as the dean of students in Knappa, OR. He earned his
        Doctorate of Education in Education Leadership from Lewis & Clark College and his Master’s in
        Education from Linfield College.
    •   James Thomas – current vice-principal in Milton-Freewater, OR. Mr. Thomas also served in
        various administrative capacities including principal of Oregon Connections Academy and
        superintendent in Scio, OR; superintendent/principal in Monument, SD; high school principal in
        Riddle, OR; and principal in Detroit, OR. He earned his Master’s degree in History and
        Education from California State University Chico.
The finalists will be in Craig on May 17 – 19. The Board will conduct individual interviews with each
finalist on May 18 in open session beginning at 4:00 pm. Prior to the formal interviews the Board plans
to have the candidates participate in a staff/community “meet the candidates” forum on Sunday, May 17
from 4 – 6:00 pm in the Craig High School Commons. On Monday, May 18 the candidates will tour the
community and schools during the morning.
The Board intends to make an announcement on their choice of a new superintendent as soon as
possible following the interviews and deliberations on May 18 and 19, 2009.
