PRESS RELEASE: April 30, 2009 RE: County Courts at Law Schedule the week of May 4, 2009 Until further notice: All cases scheduled for Monday, May 4, 2009 will go on as scheduled. All criminal cases scheduled for Tuesday May 5, 2009 at 8:30 am and 1:30 p.m. will be re- scheduled. Notice will be mailed to the address we have on file. Regarding cases scheduled for Wednesday, May 6, 2009, if the State and Defendant are ready to proceed with their case, it will be heard in County Court at Law #2, Suite 301 Courthouse Annex. All other cases will be re-scheduled, and notices will be mailed to the attorney of record. All cases scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2009 will go on as scheduled. All cases scheduled for Friday, May 8, 2009 will go on as scheduled. We will be operating the court in a way that protects the health and safety of everyone at the courthouse, and keep the court open to ensure timely justice for the people we serve. Use of hand sanitizer will be required before entrance to the courtroom by ALL persons. No one should come to court unless their presence is required by notice, subpoena or order of the court. If you are ill or susceptible to becoming ill, please make the necessary arrangements with your attorney to re- schedule your case. Above all, use common sense. We believe justice delayed is justice denied. The cases scheduled for Monday, Thursday and Friday should not require the presence of more than 20 people. On Tuesday, we have 104 cases set, many of which are set for the first time without the opportunity for representation. With the school cancellations, we realize it would be even more difficult for many of those defendants to appear with children of school age. Tuesday cases are therefore cancelled. On Wednesday we have 276 cases set and realize that there are a number of people who have made arrangements with their attorney, family, work, etc. for that day. At their request and appearance, and if they are prepared to proceed forward with their cases we will take them up on a case by case basis.
