                                                Objectives
Participants will be able to:
         Provide a brief historical background on “Good Samaritan” encounters and how statutes were developed
             to provide immunities to protect against common law liability in emergency situations.
         Discuss traditional and current examples of “Good Samaritan” encounters.
         Discuss the statutory scheme in five (5) jurisdictions relating to “Good Samaritan” laws.
         Discuss the considerations required of risk managers based on the various statutory schemes. Identify
             necessary responses of risk managers for possible “Good Samaritan” encounters.
         Discuss hypothetical situations concerning the “Good Samaritan” laws and then answer questions relating
             to the discussion.
         To list 3 safety measures taken in helicopter ambulance transfers.
         Discuss an adverse event that could be prevented by effective communication between patients, families
             and providers.
         Understand the current status of House Bill H.R. 2381 Nurse and Healthcare Worker Protection Act of
             2009 and the ramifications of this bill for hospital and healthcare facilities.
         Understand and evaluate the risks associated with both owned and non-owned aviation in a healthcare
             setting.
         List current safety initiatives in the air medical transport industry and discuss how the risk manager can
             integrate into their health system.
