Inaugural Broward Healthy Start Maternal Child Health Institute
Broward Healthy Start Coalition, Inc. is holding its Inaugural Broward Healthy Start Maternal Child Health Institute, Promoting a Healthy Start for Mothers, Infants and Toddlers. This two-day educational forum will cover topics relating to Postpartum Depression (Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders) and Infant Mental Health practices and services.
Who Should Attend
The Broward Healthy Start Maternal Child Health Institute will bring together caregivers, educators, childcare providers, physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, social workers, therapists from many different disciplines, child advocates, psychologists, program administrators and students interested in the fields of postpartum depression and infant mental health.
Continuing Education Credits
Each full day of courses is an independent continuing education program. Separate registrations are required for each. June 2 - DC:0-3R Certification Training contact hours will be provided by Florida State University, Harris Institute for Infant Mental Health Training; Center for Prevention & Early Intervention Policy, Board of Psychology – #50-4373, Board of Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, and Mental Health Counseling – #50-4373, Office of School Psychology – Complimentary Board. The following statements apply individually to each of these three courses: June 2 - Postpartum Depression June 3 - Infant Mental Health June 3 - Postpartum Depression Certificate Each full day of courses is independently approved for and offers 5.0 hours continuing education for licensed social workers, marriage & family therapists and mental health counselors. Mental Health Association of Broward County Provider #50-1326. According to the Administrative Code 64B19-13.003(1)(i), psychologists can receive continuing education credit for courses approved by any Board within the Division of MQA of the Department of Health, provided that such course enhances the psychological skills and/or psychological knowledge of the licensee. Each full day of courses is independently eligible for 5.0 hours continuing education for licensed psychologists or school psychologists. Mental Health Association of Broward County Provider #50-1326. Nursing CEU credits are pending. CEU credits may be available for other professions as well. Please call for details at (954) 746-2055. PLEASE NOTE: Continuing Education Credit (CEU) is available only to those who attend the full conference day. Late arrivals or early departures will NOT receive CEU credit. No partial credit will be provided. Certificates will be distributed at the end of each conference day and entered into CE Broker only for those participants who return a completed evaluation. No certificates or CEU credits will be provided to participants who have not received their certificate onsite, at the end of the course.

Seating is limited for the special one-day training programs being offered for DC:0-3R Training on June 2, 2009 and for the Postpartum Depression Certificate on June 3, 2009. Early registration is highly recommended.

Conference Day Two: Infant Mental Health Sign In and Breakfast starting at 7:30 am, Program 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
On June 3, 2009, Day Two of the conference will focus on Infant Mental Health topics facilitated by the Florida Association of Infant Mental Health. On this day participants will receive training by both founding Board Members of the Florida Association of Infant Mental Health and statewide and national experts in the areas of Infant Mental Health Systems of Care, Infant Mental Health Principles and Practices, Effects of Abuse on the Developing Brain, Culture Immigration and Infant Mental Health, School Readiness, Vital Signs in Early Child Development and Play Therapy. Sessions to be presented will enable participants to: · · · · · · · · · · · Discuss Florida’s Strategic Plan and Initiatives for Infant Mental Health Understand the role of Early Learning Coalition in Infant Mental Health Integrate best practices into mental health principles across programs Develop action plans to build Infant Mental Health practice into current program work Recognize complex trauma and stress caused by abuse and its effects Discuss prenatal effects that can modify brain development Assess the impact of the immigration experience on the parent, child and their developing relationship Relate the theory of attachment for children ages 0 to 5 and utilize parent and child play intervention Define sensory integration and understand reflex behavior as a basis of sensorimotor development in infants Understand the importance of movement in development of infants and toddlers Describe typical motor development and its components
Conference Day Two: Postpartum Depression Clinical Certificate Sign In and Breakfast starting at 7:30 am, Program 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
For those clinicians and health care providers who are interested in exploring more in-depth clinical aspects of Postpartum Depression, PSI will facilitate a second day of workshops on June 3, 2009. Participants that attend both days of PSI workshops will receive a PSI’s Perinatal Mood Disorders: Components of Care, Certificate of Completion. Participants must also attend June 2nd Postpartum Depression Workshops as a prerequisite. In addition to the objectives listed for June 2nd, sessions to be presented will enable participants to: · · · · Differentially diagnose prenatal and postpartum depression, anxiety, panic, OCD, bipolar and psychosis Develop treatment plans for clients identified with postpartum depression, perinatal mood or anxiety disorders Provide appropriate psychotherapy for clients identified with postpartum depression, perinatal mood or anxiety disorders Discuss psychopharmacology as it relates to pregnancy and postpartum treatment
