Terms and Conditions
Please read the following information very carefully. If you are still unsure of any aspect of the programme, please contact the Work Australia department in BUNAC’s London office (see below for full contact details). The description of BUNAC’s Work Australia programme constitutes the general conditions of the programme. The following are specific application and cancellation conditions. The Terms and Conditions of the BUNAC Group Flights will be sent on receipt of any provisional booking. General BUNAC is a members’ Club. The £5 Membership fee is included in the Work Australia Essentials programme. Cheques must be made payable to BUNAC with your name and “Work Australia” written clearly on the back. All applications will be considered in order of receipt. However, BUNAC reserves the right to decline any bookings in which case all monies will be refunded. Written acceptance to the programme will be sent to you as soon as possible following receipt of a complete Work Australia application form and appropriate payment. Places on the programme are limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Where all the programme places have been filled, BUNAC will return applications and payments. Applications for the BUNAC Group Flight package must be received at least ten weeks before the intended departure date. Applications from people making independent travel arrangements must be received at least 6 weeks before the intended departure date. Adequate insurance is mandatory for all participants. Either the insurance offered through BUNAC or an acceptable alternative must be purchased and proof provided to BUNAC before departure. All arrangements for transport, accommodation or services (including the issue of tickets, coupons and vouchers) are made by BUNAC as agents only, and on condition that neither they nor any associate company, agent, servant or employee shall be liable for any injury, loss, damage, claim, expense, accident, deviation, delay or curtailment, caused by any reason beyond the control of BUNAC and their agents, which may occur during the journey or be incurred by any company, organisation or person. Two nights pre-booked accommodation in Sydney is included in Work Australia Essentials. Bookings are made in a centrally located backpacker hostel. Rooms are dormitory style. The programme support services in Australia (as identified in Work Australia Essentials) are provided for 12 months from the first date of arrival. A further 12 months support can be arranged locally for an additional fee. You authorise BUNAC to liaise with the Emergency Contact listed on your application form as it deems necessary. In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with any aspect of your BUNAC experience, please submit your comments in writing to the Programme Manager. Visas Visas are issued at the discretion of the Australian Department of Immigration. The visa cost is set by the Australian Department of Immigration and is subject to change without notice. BUNAC will notify participants of any change. Where there is an increase in the cost, the participant will be responsible for meeting such costs. Once a visa application has been submitted to the Australian Department of Immigration the visa fee is retained by the Australian Department of Immigration and cannot be refunded. BUNAC cannot accept responsibility for any costs incurred through a delay in visa processing or where a visa is refused. It is a visa requirement that participants have access to at least AUS$5000 (£2000). Evidence of this must be shown on entry to Australia. If you do not hold a return or onward ticket you will need to provide evidence of an additional AUS$1250 (£500) on entry to Australia. If you anticipate working in child or healthcare occupations during your stay, you may be required to undergo a chest x-ray and/or a full medical examination as part of the visa application. Further information regarding this will be included with the Working Holiday Visa application form. Such examinations could delay the visa application process by up to four weeks. The cost of these examinations will be in addition to the programme cost and payable directly to the doctor/radiologist. An application for a 12 month extension to the Working Holiday Visa can be made to the Australian Department of Immigration whilst in Australia. To qualify for the extension the applicant must have worked for a minimum of 3 months in regional seasonal work as defined by the Australian Department of Immigration. BUNAC will send more information regarding this on acceptance to the programme. Programme Packages: Surf, Sand & Sun, Skills & Thrills and Outback Where possible the Packages will coincide with the arrival of a BUNAC Group Flight. A group itinerary will operate subject to a minimum number of participants. Where minimum numbers aren't achieved or if a participant wishes to join a package on a different date, each element of the package will be provided on an individual basis. Flights Following are general booking conditions for the BUNAC Group Flight Packages. Specific Flight Terms and Conditions will be sent on receipt of booking. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the Flight Terms and Conditions, please contact BUNAC within 14 days of receiving them. Flights to Australia are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Flights are subject to a minimum number of participants on each departure. In the unlikely event that a departure does not meet its minimum quota, BUNAC will transfer the applicant to the next available group flight date. Where this is not suitable BUNAC will refund the flight cost in full allowing applicants to arrange their own flight. In the event that circumstances beyond BUNAC’s control force changes in flight dates, routes or other arrangements, every effort will be made to provide applicants with suitable alternative arrangements. Should this
prove impossible, all monies paid to BUNAC, apart from the visa fees, will be refunded. Upon receipt of an application and Group Flight Booking, provisional confirmation of travel dates will be sent as soon as possible. Accommodation for the stopover will be provided in twin/triple rooms on a single sex basis unless two or more participants have specifically requested to share a room. We promise to notify the hotel of such requests but cannot guarantee that specific requirements will be met. You can transfer from one UK departure date to another provided you give at least ten weeks notice before the earlier of the two dates. The transfer fee is £20 (plus any difference in cost between the two date choices). Transfer requests must be made to BUNAC in writing. The flight and package prices are based on rates of exchange, taxes, user fees and aviation fuel costs applicable at the time of publication and may be subject to adjustment at any time. Any fuel increase or surcharge imposed by the carriers over and above the base rate obtained in April 2008 may be passed on at cost to all passengers before departure of the appropriate sectors and must be paid by passengers before departure of the appropriate outward and homeward flights. If the increase is more than 15% of the original price published herein, the passenger shall be entitled to cancel the booking and have the full cost refunded, provided written notice is received by BUNAC within ten days of the date on which BUNAC mails the notification of such charges. If you are not booked on to a BUNAC Group Flight, our preferred travel provider, GS World Travel may contact you from time to time to make you aware of any promotional airfares. If you would prefer not to be contacted please indicate this by ticking the box provided on the application form. BUNAC Group Flights Routes A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H are valid for 24 months from the date of booking. All travel must be completed within these periods. The global airline reservation system will only allow bookings to be made up to ten months in advance. If your intended trip is for a period of ten months or less we will be able to book your itinerary in advance (subject to availability). If you intend to travel for longer than ten months you will need to change your dates of travel during your trip. Routes A – H allow dates of travel to be changed (subject to availability) for an administration fee of approximately £70. This will be arranged either locally with the appropriate airline, or by e-mail with the UK booking agent. We will confirm which is applicable to your booking following your acceptance on to the programme.
Routes A - H can be transferred and a partial refund is available on the completely unused homeward ticket. Refunds are subject to airline cancellation fees which can be high and means the refund values are low. Routes E – H: the overland sector of this route (between Sydney and Cairns) is arranged independently and at your own expense. Where independent travel arrangements are made, BUNAC recommends that participants do not book flights until confirmation of the visa is received from BUNAC. Cancellation Cancellations are only deemed to be requested when written notification is received by BUNAC, but not otherwise. Cancellation charges are based on the number of days notice given prior to the UK departure date. Refunds for Independent Travel are based on the period of time that passes following acceptance on to the Work Australia programme. Separate cancellation terms apply for the programme packages, see below. The figure below is the cancellation fee. The value of your refund is equal to the amount that you have paid for Work Australia Essentials and where applicable, Group Flights, minus the figure below and, where applicable, minus the visa fee (refunds will be made by cheque, payable to the applicant):

In all circumstances the visa fee is not refundable once the visa application has been made. Programme Packages The Organic Oz package is non-refundable. Surf, Sand & Sun, Skills & Thrills and Outback: there is a 50% cancellation fee if you cancel before your UK departure date. The fee is not refundable once you have left the UK. This booking by whosoever and wherever it may be made is subject to the Law of England.
