Welcome
Introducing the Workplace Relations Training Calendar
The Chamber of Commerce Workplace Relations Division is pleased to provide members and business with their training calendar for April, May and June 2009. Due to upcoming changes in legislation, we have responded to business demands by providing business with an opportunity to be the first to find out new information, together with providing business with the skills to meet changes in their business.
The Chamber of Commerce is the largest employer association in the Northern Territory providing workplace relations support, training and assistance to business. Our team of specialist advisors have years of practical experience and can provide business with assistance and support on all employment related matters. Due to the introduction of the Fair Work Act in March 2009, the Chamber of Commerce is providing business with information seminars and training workshops needed to gain skills required in the workplace. Some of the major implications for business shall be the reintroduction of unfair dismissal provisions on the 1st July 2009, together with the introduction of modernised awards on the 1st January 2010 and an expanded set of minimum conditions referred to as the National Employment Standards. These changes will apply to all organisations and business is strongly recommended to identify areas required for change well in advance of the two key operative dates; 1st July 2009 and the 1st January 2010. Attending our ‘Understanding Forward with Fairness’ information session is a practical way to grasp the effects of the changes that will impact your business. Examples are provided to demonstrate how these changes will in fact impact on your business. The reintroduction of unfair dismissal provisions will have a large impact, particularly on companies with 100 employees or less. Organisations must take steps to change their operational processes in relation to performance management and termination. Our ‘Termination of Employment’ course is great for small and medium companies, and is a great refresher for large companies. Before you commence performance management with your employees, or make a decision to terminate, attend our course first!! Finally, we are offering business an introduction to, ‘Equal Opportunity, Termination and Harassment workhop’. This is a must for every organisation in understanding your obligations and the adverse impacts of allowing discrimination and harassment to foster in your workplace. With members spread across the Northern Territory, our training program includes sessions in all regional centres. We look forward to continuing to meet your needs and invite you to contact us with any recommendations or ideas for training that you may have. If you need further information, please do not hesitate to contact us on Telephone Number - (08) 8982 8100 or via e-mail wr@chambernt.com.au .
