It is said that the pain from the eruptions of Shingles, referred to as postherpetic neuralgia, can last for months and even years. I want you to Have Lifetime Relief from the Pain of Shingles and Not just a One Time Cure. What Causes Shingles? Some say that if you have never had chicken pox that you won’t get shingles. However, other information leads to the conclusion that a highly acidic environment in you body, toxic overload, and a low immune system can lead to Shingles. Lets Explore the Causes of Shingles. One thought on the cause of Shingles is that Shingles is caused by a virus that has been waiting for years in your spine and that when your immune system is weak, you are stressed or have an injury, that jolts your spine than you will get shingles. This virus is called herpes zoster, which gets its name from both the Latin and French words for belt or girdle and refers to girdle-like skin eruptions that may occur on the trunk of the body. This said to be the same virus that causes chicken pox. Surgery or X-Ray Therapy is said to be one way that can activate or wake up this virus. I find this a Scary Thought. It makes me want to cleanse that virus out now and not wait for shingles to appear. It seems to me that if there is the potential of a virus hiding and waiting somewhere in your body than now is the time to take efforts to make sure you are viral free. A virus cleanse, colon cleanse, and a parasite cleanse will go along way at freeing your body from viruses lurking in dark corridors waiting to pounce. We will discuss more on this later. I have heard that conventional medicine may simply treat the outbreak and not really kill the virus. This could be why people continue to break out from shingles again and again. A weak Immune system can lead to Shingles. Fatigue, stress, exposure to someone with chicken pox, the use of anticancer drugs, immune system deficiency, Hodgkin's Disease, and other cancers cause the virus to travel through the nerve endings near the skin surface, and can trigger the pain and blistering rash that is shingles. A weak immune system has no way to fight this virus, and therefore it is important to always keep our immune system strong. 2 Some Say that your Immune System Naturally Declines as you get older. I think that your immune system can decline at any age. Old Age is often blamed for diseases, when in fact the real cause is toxin overload or some sort of allergic reaction. Give your Immune system what it needs to fight off viruses and you should not get shingles. Physical or Emotional Stress can cause Shingles. Stress of all kinds weakens your immune system and leaves you open to Shingles. Stress is also highly acidic and shingles thrives if your blood levels area highly acidic. Shingles Can Be Caused by an Allergic Reaction. I personally have had many odd reactions to different foods and therefore I am not surprised to find out that a common cause of shingles is food allergies. It seems that some folks break out with shingles as a reaction to Shellfish, Milk, MSG, certain Preservatives, Wheat, Food Additives, and Chlorinated water that has too much chlorine. Each of our bodies are different, each one of us have unique conditions in our body due to our DNA, our Blood type, our diet and our Environment. It is important that we pay attention to the signs our bodies give us that there is distress. I find that keeping a food journal helps me to understand what foods give me some sort of reaction. For example, after you eat you would write down everything you ate and drank and how you felt over the next hour. I find that some foods REALLY make me tired. If your not experiencing some sort of allergy with the foods you eating than you should have energy after you eat and not be tired. Maybe you have shoulder pain or a sharp liver pain. What ever you feel, keep a journal. After a few weeks to a month you should start to notice some problem foods. For me, foods high in MSG will close my throat. So if you feel a constriction of air, even a little one than it may be an allergic reaction. You could have trouble thinking and that could be a food reaction. Sharp pains in your side or back, write it all down. I have found quite a few folks who have had shingles outbreaks due to something they had eaten triggering something in their body. 3 Your Body Craves Fresh Air – Sunlight – Pristine Water Get Time in Outside – It is VERY important. Shingles Be caused by an Over Acidic Environment in Your Body. Our modern lifestyle ensures that most of us have plenty of acid in our bodies. We eat on the go, eat very little fruits and vegetable and eat plenty of meat and coffee. Other contributions to acid levels in our body is too much use of sour, pungent foods, too heavy, sweet or oily foods, drinking of alcohol, exposure to the elements and the overuse of toxic cosmetics. This can lead to many reactions by the body. Shingles is one way the body shows us that there is too much acid and not enough alkaline. Shingles can also be caused by stress. Remember Stress, Worry and Fear are acidic. If you are going through stressful time it is VERY important to up your intake of alkaline foods such as fresh fruits and vegetables. 4 Foods that are Alkaline to your Body Remember, a body with shingles is a body with too much acid, Apple Cider Vinegar is alkaline and can be taken internally with water and use topically as a liniment. Pain that persists long after the outbreak disappears, it is known as post-herpetic. 10 Symptoms of Shingles Include: Shingles can cause Pain, tingling, burning, itching, or numbness in a certain area of the body. Shingles also causes a Red Rash with fluid-filled blisters that start within a week after the initial pain. Fever Chills Headache Swollen Red Skin Blisters, usually in the upper part of the body Pain Radiates along the Nerves from the Outbreak Nerves are irritated even after the Blisters are gone. There is a tendency of shingles to ring the body on the abdomen or chest area. Shingles can also appear on the neck, lower back, forehead, and eyes. Shingles are accompanied by tiny patches of fluid filled blisters that are surrounded by a red rim. The blisters will usually last for one to two weeks before they crust over and heal. Shingles can also affect sensitive areas such as in your mouth or vaginal walls. An attack of shingles is often preceded by three of four days of intense pain in the affected area. Then numerous and excruciatingly painful and itchy blisters develop, normally lasting between seven and fourteen days. These blisters eventually form crusty scabs and drop off. After an attack of shingles, the pain may continue even after the blisters have disappeared, especially if your immune system is week and your body has a toxic overload. The pain from shingles can sometimes last for months or years. Post-Herpetic syndrome, the pain that continues after the outbreak is gone, can be even more painful than the original infection. These eventually form crusty scabs and fall off. When you begin to heal, toxins are being released from your body. So your shingles outbreak may get worse before it gets better as you heal. Stay in there, and heal forever. After an attack of shingles, the pain may continue even after the blisters have disappeared, especially in the elderly. The pain can sometimes last for months or years. This post-herpetic syndrome can be even more painful than the original infection. Are Shingles Contagious ? You cannot catch shingles from someone else unless you've never had chicken pox. If you have shingles, you should take care to avoid pregnant women who have not had chicken pox as you could infect both the woman and her unborn baby. 12 Natural Cures and Treatment for Shingle Shingles are similar to boils, carbuncles and other toxic blood conditions. They are mainly treated with bitter herbs to cleanse the blood and improve liver function as well as external application of bitter and demulcent herbs and avoiding foods which heat up the blood, therefore creating an acidic environment. The foods we eat, stress and some lighting tend to make our body an acidic environment. This in turn leads to all kinds of problems. Also note that Cancer cannot live in an alkaline environment. So the First thing you want to do for short and long term treatment is to get your alkaline levels up in your blood. Ways to Alkalinize Your Body Eating Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Eat as much fresh foods for 1 to 2 weeks as you can. I prefer to always try natural first, but if you are in severe pain than you may want to consult your doctor. Keep in mind that this may treat the symptom and not the cause. There is still controversy about the effectiveness of steroids in relieving shingles and steroids can negatively affect your immune system. For me, it is not worth the risk. I KNOW that you need Immediate Relief. If you end up using conventional medicine you still must use the techniques in the book to treat the cause. Your shingles will return or another problem will appear instead. I would try the creams, yogurt and oils in this book for immediate relief and I would not risk that side of affects of conventional medicine. Keep the Area affected Cool with a cold rag, maybe right out of the freezer. Heat is Irritating to Shingles. Avoid heat as well as tight clothes and itchy fabrics like wool. Take a Stress B Complex Vitamin 200mg All B Vitamins are Very Helpful for Nerve health. Extra B6 250 mg and B12 2500mcg Lysine 500 Mg twice a Day on Empty Stomach. Do not take Lysine with Milk. Take 50 mg of Vitamin B6 and 100mg of vitamin C to absorb the Lysine better. Lysine Cream is also helpful directly on blisters. Quercertin with Bromelain can be used for instant action against inflammation. Quercertin is a free radical that boosts your immune system and Bromelain is a Powerful anti-flam agent. Take Propolis Tincture or Lozenges 2 to 3 times daily Take Ascorbate Vitamin C, or Ester C powder with Bioflavanoids ¼ teaspoon every ½ hour in water, up to 10,000 mg or to bowel tolerance daily during an outbread, then reduce to 5000 daily until the blisters heal. 2000 Mg 4 times a Day is another dosage option. Vitamin A and D are also helpful in building your immune system and getting rid of shingles. Take 50,000 IU daily of A and 1000 IU of vitamin D. Don’t forget to get out into the sunlight. Take Vitamin E 400 IU 3 x daily and Apply Vitamin E Oil directly on wounds. Take a Zinc supplement in a dosage of 80 mg a day for 1 week, after 1 week reduce to 50 mg a day, and make sure that with all your supplement that you do not take more than 100 mg a day. Zinc will strengthen your immune system and protect you from further infection. 15 Take Calcium Magnesium, 1500 mg of Calcium and 750 of Magnesium. I have tried many brands of Calcium over the years, I have had friends with severe leg cramps and USANA’s calcium was the fastest to absorb with the longest affects. Take Supplements with Vitamin B12 during the first one to two days and continued supplements with vitamin B complex, high levels of vitamin C with bioflavonoid, and calcium to boost your immune system. Garlic is Awesome for your immune system. I take garlic raw, I feel this is best. Some folks prefer garlic pills, if you must do this than it too is helpful. However, the element in garlic that causes the odor is the element you need, so if you buy odor free garlic than, in my opinion you are wasting your money and not getting the full affects of garlic. Garlic is also VERY heart Smart. Enzyme Therapy Herpilyn Plus Enzyme Capsules are helpful. Proteolytic Enzymes are great for Shingles. They are a natural anti-flam and can be helpful in pain relief. Proteolytic enzymes are enzymes that are produced naturally by the pancreas to help digest protein we eat. Proteolytic enzymes are also found in pineapple and papaya. Supplements derived from papaya (called papain), pineapple (called bromelain) are important to have in your medicine cabinet. If you are allergic to pineapple or papaya than should avoid supplements derived from those fruit. Don’t take Proteolytic enzymes, particularly bromelain and papain, if you are taking aspirin, or other "blood-thinning" medications as it may increase the effect of the drug. 16 Helpful Herb Teas These Herbs, Tea, Essential Oils, Minerals are not only healing and soothing to your shingles but can strengthen your immune system to insure that you do not get Shingles again and that your over all health is better forever. You can make them into a tea or take capsules. You really NEED to build your immune system. Echinacea Echinacea is very effective for fighting infection and boosting your immune system. Alfalfa Nettles Burdock and Red Clover are powerful blood cleansers. Cayenne contains capsicum which relieves pain and helps with healing. It can help relieve the itchiness, pain and discomfort. Simply mix a bit of it in with a soothing body lotion. Apply this mixture onto the area that's affected by Shingles every four to six hours. Cayenne has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antiseptic, diuretic, analgesic, expectorant, and diaphoretic properties. The dried ripe fruit and seeds of the plant are used for medicinal purposes. Cayenne is available in many forms, including capsules, ointments, liniments, tinctures, creams, oils, and dried powders. Goldenseal is a very powerful herb with antibiotic properties. Green Tea Green Tea has antiviral properties, antioxidant properties and is an anti-inflammatory. The Polyphenols in green tea have been know to fight herpes viruses. 17 Licorice Put Licorice Extract on top of your out break to stop the virus from growing and spreading to other parts of your body. Milk Thistle can help to protect and heal your Liver. Rose Hips are Very high in vitamin C and are good for the prevention of skin infections. Valerian Root calms the nervous System and can aid in sleeping. Essential Oils Heal Shingles Essential Oils Are Helpful for Healing and Soothing Shingles. These Oils have Strong Antiviral Properties. Mix the Essential Oils with Almond, coconut Oil or Olive oil before you put on to your wounds. Apply These Oils Topically Bergamot Oil Geranium Oil Goldenseal Oil Anti-Bacterial, Healing, and Curative Lemon Oil Kills Skin Viruses and Relieves Pain 18 Tea Tree Oil Anti-Fungal, Healing, and Soothing Peppermint Oil Kills Skin Viruses and Relieves Pain Licorice Oil May Reduce Pain and Blistering Apply 2 to 3 drops to the affected area three or four times per day for pain relief and healing properties to cure your shingles naturally. However, a paste made of plain uncooked oatmeal with a small amount of water that is applied to your blisters and red spots can be quite soothing. This is healing and can relieve itching. 19 Topical Ointments to Heal and Sooth your Shingles An excellent topical remedy for shingles is an ointment that you can make at home with the following items, you can use any of them to help, you may even want to crush aspirin into one of the lotions or ointments, NOT aspirin substitutes they can agitate you shingles out break. Some people find that calamine lotion can relieve the pain and help dry up your blisters. Echinacea Cream Echinacea Cream boosts your immune system and heals your skin. Echinacea Cream is antiseptic and antiviral. Lysine Cream Lysine Cream has antioxidant properties and soothing effects on your shingles. Aloe Vera and Golden Seal Aloe Vera and Golden Seal is healing to your shingles. Mix them together and get soothing affects, anti-itching and antibacterial healing for your shingles. Calendula Gel Calendula Gel is antibiotic, anti-fungus and anti-inflammatory. Calendula Gel is great for healing your shingles forever. 20 Vitamin E oil Vitamin E oil is Soothing and Healing. Vitamin E oil has antioxidant properties and can aid in healing and prevent scarring. Capsaicin Cream Capsaicin Cream is the active ingredient in chilies. It is an amazing cream for healing shingles. Capsaicin has been found to deplete the neuro-chemical substance that transmits pain which results in an analgesic effect. Capsaicin cream is also called capsicum cream. A typical dosage of Capsaicin Cream is 0.025% applied two to four times a day. Capsaicin Cream is Best applied after the shingles blisters have healed, this cream can relieve lingering pain by acting after shingles are gone. Homeopathic Remedies Homeopathic remedies for shingles include the Following: Rhus Tox is best used when the blisters first emerge. At this stage Rhus Tox helps to relieve pain and itching. Arsenicum Album is used for pain, and for red – burning lesions. It helps at night to keep you from getting restless and anxious. Mezereum is useful is there is severe pain, burning skin and skin that forms brown scabs. Ranunculus is used when there is nerve pain and itching with the slightest touch. Or if eating makes the symptoms worse Apis is used when swelling and stinging pains improve with cold and become aggravated by heat. 21 Tai Chi There is preliminary evidence suggesting that tai chi may improve immune function and health in older adults at risk for shingles. Acupuncture and Shingles Acupuncture can be helpful in relieving symptoms of an, acute shingles attack as well as the pain that comes after the blisters have gone. It is recommended to start acupuncture as soon as possible after the eruptions have broken out, and while they were still wet, and not wait until the eruptions had dried off. Apparently this will aid in the prevention of any nerve damage. Once the nerve is damaged, it is much more difficult and it takes much longer to achieve healing. Relax if you have Shingles, tell your friends and family that you cannot deal with any major issues until your outbreak is over. DON’T take acetaminophen pain killers as in Tylenol, this may seriously aggravate your blisters. A Note on Conventional Medicines Conventional medicine treats shingles using antiviral drugs like acyclovir or pain relief medications like the steroid prednisone. If your immune system is weak, the Virus WILL come back again, it is yet another example of the medical community treating the symptom and not the cause of a disease. Side effects from these drugs are just not worth it, to me anyway. A note on Traditional Medicine, keep in mind that I am not a Doctor or a Medical practitioner of any kind. I have researched alternative medicine for 20 years. I don’t believe in “Go Home and Make Yourself Comfortable”. I believe in taking charge of your own health and for way less money. There are vaccines for shingles and steroid creams, I caution you to read, study, and learn the side affects and what can happen with the use of these drugs. Why not, at least try the natural way first? Even if it does not work for you, which I think it will, than you will have strengthened your immune system and that can’t hurt, Right ? 22 It’s funny, a lot of modern “medicine” is derived from plants but the plant used in healing seems to go unrecognized for the most part and is thousands of dollars cheaper. I ask, why not use the plant in the first place? Well a seed cost less than a cent. Where would the economy be without Expensive Medicine? Do Your Homework Folks. the shingles vaccine is strongly recommended. So Be Careful. In conclusion, a reminder that I am not a doctor and I do encourage you to verify what has been said here. If it feels wrong to you than maybe it is wrong for you. I believe this information to be true. However, nobody knows your body better than you. Listen to your body, and you will know what treatment is best for you. I am not convinced that shingles is an age related disease. I feel, from my research that it has more to do with toxin overload or allergic reactions than with age. You can be sick or healthy at any age, our body is miraculous. If we give our body the nutrients it needs and get the toxins out, the amount of rejuvenation that can really take place is Stunning. If you are going to use natural cures, stay diligent and follow through and if the blisters are around your eyes you may want to involve a doctor, don’t take a chance with your eyesight. Personally, as Stated Earlier, I will always try natural first, BUT when my Throat attempts to CLOSE I reach for the Benadryl first. So be sure and use common sense and set out on a total body cleansing and nutrition program.
