									SCAN and RUN
Before reading, student will SCAN the text.

          Survey the headings and turn them into questions
S         (the questions will be answered during the reading).
          Capture the captions and visuals
C         (read captions and look at the pictures to try and understand what they mean).

          Attack boldface words
A         (reading boldface words help with the vocabulary).

          Note and read the chapter questions
N         (read the end of chapter questions first helps focus the reader.



And while reading student will RUN.

           Read and adjust speed (read slower through difficult sections).
  R
          Use word identification skills such as sounding it out, looking for other word
  U       clues in the sentence, or breaking words into parts for unknown words.

          Notice and check parts you don't understand (ask if the section clicked).
