Alternative Letter Offering Employment

If you accept the position, as a member of the school community you are also subject to these requirements and would be expected to follow them willingly. I have attached a Statement of Principles regarding Catholic Education. The position is offered to you on the condition that you adhere to the principles set out in the statement which may be varied from time to time.You will also be required to comply with school policies and customs These are recorded in the School Manual which is available from me. Your duties for (1st year of employment) will include: English, History, RE Years 10, 11, 12 classes within your subject method those discussed at interview OR OR
In subsequent years consideration will be given to your teaching preferences but it is to be understood that the overall program of the college/school is the major criterion for determining all positions within the college/school. From time to time, the school may require you to teach other classes or perform alternate duties that you are experienced or qualified to teach, for various reasons related to the school’s need to meet curriculum requirements, student needs or the availability of other teachers.

PLEASE NOTE. A letter relating to any limited term appointment should set out either the actual duration of the appointment or, where this is not possible (as when replacing a teacher on maternity leave) the conditions governing the duration of the appointment. See Attachment 8C.

Your long service leave conditions are in accordance with the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria long service leave scheme. Further information about long service leave and superannuation may be obtained from the School Office. (Should you accept this offer of employment you would be required to commence duty on ……............ (date). If the appointment is for a fixed term of employment such as replacement, include: ‘and you will cease your employment on ....................... a total of ................ Your agreement to this offer of employment will be taken to mean that you have accepted the basic requirements of the school as conditional to your employment, namely that you: (a) accept the Catholic educational philosophy of the school; (b) develop and maintain an adequate understanding of those aspects of Catholic teaching that touch upon your subject areas; (c) by your teaching and other work and by personal example, strive to help students to understand, accept and appreciate Catholic teaching; (d) avoid, whether by word, action or known lifestyle, influence upon students that is contrary to the teaching and values of the Church community in whose name you act; (e) comply with the accreditation policy of the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria (CECV) to teach in a Catholic school and other CECV policies; (f) be committed to regular ongoing professional development;
(g) have and will continue to have the qualifications required by state authorities. The offer of employment is made by (............................) who is currently the employer/canonical administrator. It is possible that responsibility for employment may be assumed by a new employer/canonical administrator in the future. When accepting this offer of employment, you are required to consent, in advance, to the assignment of your contract of employment to the employer’s replacement (if this occurs).
Insert this paragraph when employee will commence duty before a criminal record check.
Consistent with CECV policy, the usual policy of the school is to require a criminal record check to be completed for all teachers before commencing work at the school. This has not been possible in your case. A criminal record check has been initiated but not completed. Consequently, the school’s offer of employment is conditional upon you declaring that you have not been charged with nor found guilty of any offence which would be incompatible with your position of trust and responsibility as a teacher. A declaration to this effect is part of the statement of acceptance of the offer set out on the next page.
If you wish to accept this offer of employment, please sign the acknowledgment below and return the complete letter to me. Also attached is a form asking you to disclose details of any preexisting injuries or diseases. I have attached a copy of this letter for your record. Following receipt of your written acceptance I shall confirm your appointment by return mail.
