This working group focuses on tsunamis in ports and harbors and investigates tsunami disasters including the disasters caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, characteristics of tsunamis, structural and nonstructural countermeasures and structural design of port facilities. As a product is summarized a practical report which should be disseminated to engineers and policy makers concerning ports and harbors. The working group started under the chairman of Dr. Takahashi. The Kick Off meeting was held on 20 January 2006 in Yokosuka, Japan and discussed the term of reference and a written study plan.

Chapters 2 and 3 of the working group report in which tsunami disasters and basic knowledge on tsunamis are described will be done until the end of October 2006.
