William Howard Taft 1909 presidential inauguration
William Howard Taft 1909 presidential inauguration
Due to a blizzard the night before, the inauguration of William Howard Taft was moved into the Senate Chamber in the Capitol. The oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Melville Fuller, who was doing this for the sixth time. The new President took his oath on the Supreme Court Bible, which he used again in 1921 to take his oaths as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. While the parade was cancelled, an inaugural ball was that evening was held at the Pension Building.[1]
