run" will provide an excellent opportunity to identify weaknesses and correct them before the real CKE.

                                                                                       CKE, SOA and UFE Courses

SUMMER SCHOOL
This 3 day course will illustrate critical techniques that can be used to help students move up the levels in
the diagnostic and summative indicators. Students will practice writing a simulated summer school multi
exam and have a solid understanding of the differences between this exam and the UFE at the completion
of the course.

This course will prepare students for the comp by teaching an approach to the comp. Students will also
write a comp, which will be marked and de-briefed.

IFRS / PRIVATE ENTERPRISE GAAP
IFRS and Private Enterprise GAAP are now in the Competency Map and students will be responsible for
IFRSs for both the SOA final exam and for the UFE.

This course will summarize all of the technical areas in IFRS and Private Enterprise GAAP that students
are responsible for. Mini cases will be used to illustrate how these areas can be tested in the SOA and UFE.
At the conclusion of the course, students will have a good grasp of both the technical material and how it
differs from old GAAP and how to incorporate this material into cases.

UFE COURSES

1. COMPREHENSIVE COURSE - SUMMER
(11 Days of Instruction)

The Comprehensive Course which is offered in the summer; is intended to provide students with all of the
tools they need to pass the UFE. The course consists of a combination of practice case writing sessions in

extremely useful in moving up the "competency" levels.

Numerical Methods - How to perform quantitative analysis quickly and effectively in order to reach
        at least the 'competent' level
Depth in Financial Accounting - Essential technique for financial accounting issues which ensures
students will move from 'nominal' or 'reaching' competence to 'competent' once an issue is

                                                                                         CKE, SOA and UFE Courses
                                                                                                       Page 4 of 7
competency levels. You will learn how to debrief cases you write on your own to maximize the
benefit from case writing. Personal counselling sessions with an experienced marker will be provided.

2. COMP WRITING COURSE - SUMMER
For many students, the Comp is their biggest challenge in passing the UFE. This component of
the UFE differs considerably from all of the exams students have confronted in University. The
comp is much longer than multis, there are a large number of complex intertwined issues,
extensive extraneous information is provided, and candidates must adopt a broader perspective in
formulating responses. A specific approach to handle the comp is critical to passing the UFE.
This 6 day summer course consists of 3 components:

How to write a Comp - This session will review how to formulate a plan and organize one’s
response. Students will be provided with a step by step approach that will guide them
       through the comp.

Comp walkthrough - This session will allow students to apply the skills they acquire in the
How to Write a Comp session. The course emphasis will be on the planning process
including how to read the exam and determine the primary and secondary indicators and
how to plan one’s time effectively.

Four days of practice exam writing - Students will write 4 practice comps. All comps are
marked and returned along with solutions and evaluation guides showing all
Primary/Secondary Indicators and Competency levels. Each exam will be taken up in the
afternoon and students will have a personal counselling session with a professional
       marker.

3. WINTER UFE PREPARATORY COURSE
For many students, learning how to write UFE cases is a process which may require a number
of months, meaning that if they begin their case writing in the summer, there just is not enough
time to master case writing in time for the UFE. (Furthermore, students in Ontario must be
competent at case writing prior to the summer in order to pass the Ontario Institute School of
Accountancy.)
The course will consist of the following components:
A half day course on preparing a study plan that incorporates preparation for the Ontario
  1.
School of Accountancy and the UFE.
  2. A full day course on UFE case writing techniques.
  3. An opportunity to write two multi competency exams which will be marked professionally
and returned with solutions and evaluation guides. Both cases will be taken up in class.
  4. An opportunity to write one comp exam which will be marked professionally and returned
with a solution and evaluation guide. This will help students for both the Summer School
exam and the UFE. The case will be taken up in class.

                                                                                    CKE, SOA and UFE Courses
                                                                                                  Page 5 of 7
After taking this course, you will have gained exposure to case writing by the time the summer begins;
you will then be able to derive maximum benefit from the PASS courses offered in the summer
comprehensive course, where you will learn additional key techniques for the UFE and further refine
your case writing skills.

4. REPEAT WRITERS COMPREHENSIVE COURSE - SUMMER
(11 Days of Instruction)
The Comprehensive Course which is offered in the summer; is intended to provide students with all of the
tools they need to pass the UFE. The course consists of a combination of practice case writing sessions in
which specific techniques and approaches vital to passing the UFE are taught. These techniques will be
extremely useful in moving up the "competency" levels.

Exclusive repeat writer sessions:
What went wrong - How to Fix it - A session led by an experienced UFE marker, focusing on
common problems in case writing, and demonstrating simple techniques to give the marker what
        they are looking for
UFE marker session - Find out from a UFE marker what happens at the marking centre and walk
through a multi case and learn how a UFE Marker differentiates between "nominal", "reaching"
        and "competent"

Learn specific techniques for writing UFE cases, such as:
Numerical Methods - How to perform quantitative analysis quickly and effectively in order to reach
        at least the 'competent' level
Depth in Financial Accounting - Essential technique for financial accounting issues which ensures
students will move from 'nominal' or 'reaching' competence to 'competent' once an issue is
        identified

        Performance Measurement
Finance Strategies - How to analyze finance options in depth to move up competency levels

You will learn a structured COMP writing approach which works for all types of comps. Students will
write 2 multi-competency exams and 2 comprehensive simulated exams which are professionally marked
with solutions and evaluation guides showing all Primary/Secondary Indicators and competency levels.
You will learn how to debrief cases you write on your own to maximize the benefit from case writing.
Personal counselling sessions with an experienced marker will be provided.

5. REPEAT WRITERS COMP WRITING COURSE - SUMMER
(6 Days of Instruction)
For many repeat writers, the Comp is their biggest challenge in passing the UFE. This 6 day summer
course consists of 3 components:

                                                                                         CKE, SOA and UFE Courses

1. How to write a comp session - This session will review how to formulate a plan and organize one's
response. Students will be provided with a step by step approach that will guide them through the comp.
This is particularly important, as the comp is 1/3 of the exam.

2. Comp walkthrough session - This session will allow students to apply the skills they acquire in the How
to Write a Comp session. The course emphasis will be on the planning process including how to read the
exam and determine the primary and secondary indicators and how to plan one's time effectively.

3. Four days of practice exam writing - Students will write 4 practice comps. All comps are marked and
returned promptly along with solutions and evaluation guides showing all Primary/Secondary Indicators
and Competency levels. Each exam will be taken up in the afternoon. Students will have a personal
counselling session with a professional marker.
