BusinessWeek’s Best Undergraduate Business Schools by Specialty
RESULTS The Carroll School ranked #17 overall in BusinessWeek’s 2009 ranking for top undergraduate business schools and also ranked in the following specialties: #1 Accounting #2 Sustainability #3 Marketing #3 Operations Management #4 Financial Management #5 Business Law #5 Corporate Strategy #10 Macroeconomics “Boston College's Carroll School of Management—ranked 17th overall—fared especially well, with eight top 10 specialty rankings including the top spot in accounting. This recognition comes at a good time, as accounting is one of the few bright spots in this lessthan-desirable hiring market.” (Quote from accompanying article by Geoff Gloeckler) METHODOLOGY As part of BusinessWeek's Best Undergraduate Business Schools ranking, it surveyed thousands of business majors at more than 100 schools about how well their schools teach standard academic specialties. Senior business majors were asked to grade their programs on a scale of 1 to 5 in 12 academic areas including accounting, calculus, corporate strategy, ethics, financial management, marketing and—for the first time— sustainability (full list below). We tallied the average score for each school and ranked all schools in descending order. The school with the highest score in each specialty was ranked No. 1. The specialty ranking only includes the 101 programs that received an overall ranking in BusinessWeek's "Best Undergraduate Business School" of Feb. 26. Schools not on that list were not considered. In total, 49 schools appear in the top 10 in at least one category. 12 Academic Areas Included in Ranking Accounting Business Law Calculus Corporate Strategy Ethics Financial Management Marketing Macroeconomics Microeconomics Operations Management Sustainability Quantitative Methods
