Quilt Drawing — Saturday Morning Quilters are holding an Opportunity Drawing for a beautiful 81”x81" quilt entitled "There's no P l a c e L i k e Home." It’s goal is to educate seniors and their families about available resources and services within the community to keep them in their homes as long as possible. Seniors Against Investment Fraud The SAIF program educates seniors about identity, telemarketing, investment and other types of fraud. Learn about how to protect yourself and your loved ones from becoming a victim of scam artists. The Burbank Historical Society invites you to a special program on the Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00pm at the Gordon Howard Museum Founded in 1976, this non-profit corporation operates a unique animal sanctuary located on 160 acres just north of the San Fernando Valley in the Angeles National Forest. (You might even meet some interesting animals at this program!) The Gordon Howard Museum is located at 1100 W. Clark Avenue in Burbank. Program is free to the public. Please bring a referral from your eye doctor and call for (818) 238-5353 for an appointment. ; Personal Assistance Services Council (PASC) — Thursday, May 7, 10am-1:30pm: The PASC is the Public Authority for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) in LA County. The IHSS Program pays for services that enable eligible senior and disabled individuals to remain safely in their own homes. PASC serves as the employer of record, helps provide referrals, and provides access to training for IHSS consumers and providers, as well as other support services. To learn more about what PASC does and how to sign up for the PASC Homecare Registry, drop by the Joslyn Center front lobby! PASC will return on June 4, 10am. Recycle Center / Sharps Disposal Containers — Friday, May 15, 10:30am-12n: Representatives of the Burbank Recycle Center will be in the Joslyn Center front lobby to promote and hand out samples of Sharps (syringe) disposal containers. They will visit again on Friday, May 22, 10:30am12n. Med-Check! — Tuesday, June 2, 12n-2pm: Meet one-on-one with a pharmacist intern. Bring a list of your medications, including over-the-counter and herbal. They will help identify any potential medication-related problems such as drug interactions, dosing inaccuracies, duplication of medications, and side effects. It is based on Dr. Gary Small’s book, “The Memory Bible” and focuses on his successful memory-enhancing techniques. (Note: this class is not intended for those with Alzheimer’s or dementia- related diseases.) The class fee is $15 ($10 with your BSAC card). Every item is donated and every item is a terrific value! All sales help fund the important programs of the American Cancer Society. Service opportunities include a variety of duties that all benefit the American Cancer Society. Positions are available from 10:00am - 5:00pm 6 days a week. Our local Discovery shops are located at: 500 N. Victory Blvd in Burbank, and 10124 Riverside Drive in Toluca Lake. Bob Hope Airport Airport Ambassador — Greeters that help passengers find their way around the airport. Offer assistance and direct passengers to appropriate facilities. Work a two-hour shift one weekday per week from 6am to 8am. Free parking for volunteers! Home Delivered Meals Meal Delivery Driver — Deliver a meal and a smile! Help is needed to deliver hot, nutritious meals to Burbank residents that are homebound. Volunteers in this position work one day per week from 10:30am to 12:30pm. Community Event Burbank First UMC Friends of Music Through the support of their members, the Burbank First UMC Friends of Music sponsors concert series to encourage youth and community participation in the arts.
