The Fish Eagle’s Lament
Travels in Southwest Ethiopia
Gerard Dominic Pillai
Physically dominating the Horn of Africa is an enigmatic land called Ethiopia, once known as Abyssinia. Being the home of Prester John, The Ark of the Covenant and the Source of the Blue Nile, it has always exuded mystery and allure. Sadly, in recent years it has been depicted too often as a dustbowl where malnourished travesties of humans try to eke out a living, or as the battlefield for bloody border disputes. To rectify this unfavourable image and to celebrate his love for the African Continent and the country Gerard regards as the most fascinating of the fifty plus countries he has visited, he takes you on a captivating journey into the Southwest of Ethiopia. During his many journeys to the area, he has become more than just a traveller and built up some lasting personal relationships with many tribes people. Readers will get an intimate and heartfelt insight into the customs, dress, food, landscape and wildlife of one of the last true tribal lands in Africa. His compelling prose is complemented by numerous vivid photographs of outstanding clarity and composition. Foreword by Sir Christopher Ondaatje O.C., C.B.E.. About the Author: Gerard Dominic Pillai was born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. He attended St Josephs College, Colombo before joining the newly formed tri-service Sir John Kotelawela Defence Academy.
