During this term appointment your salary will be annualized at a rate of $(amount), less any deductions required by law. Contingent upon reappointment in subsequent years, your compensation will be defined by Department/Division and University policies. Continuance of your service during this period or beyond is dependent upon your performance and/or the availability of funding. You will be required to obtain adequate health insurance, which can be purchased through Insurance for Students, Inc. or another insurance company. If you have other forms of health insurance, for example, through your employer in [home country …], you will be required to show that it is in compliance with U.S. State Department regulations for J1 scholars. This position is subject to the conditions of the University of Miami’s policies and procedures, which govern appointment for our International Employees. Included in these policies is the requirement that your credentials are authentic and are appropriate to the position. You will be expected to submit copies of any diplomas with corresponding English translations to your Department/Divisional Administrator. As an International Scholar, please be aware that once you become a University of Miami staff employee you are required to abide by and conform to all University policies and procedures and to comply with those policies and procedures required of the University by agencies, vendors or other third parties. We encourage you to read and understand these policies and procedures since they define your rights and responsibilities as a member of our professional staff. Included in this offer letter is your Form DS-2019, Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor (J-1) Status, which you will use in obtaining your J-1 visa. Also included is information prepared by the Department of International Student and Scholar Services that will be helpful to you prior to your arrival on campus. Your University sponsorship is contingent upon your obtaining and maintaining J-1 status, which allows you to work legally at the University of Miami. The Form DS-2019 is a controlled, legal document and is non-transferable. As a final point, please be advised that the availability of this position being offered to you is contingent upon the presentation by you of proof of work authorization and/or U.S. citizenship and the completion of an I-9 form, as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. This federal law requires that the University verify, for citizens and non-citizens alike, the identity and authorization to work for all new employees. An appointment should be made with International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) on or before your first day of employment to complete the appropriate verification paperwork. You will not be able to start your employment with the University until such time as you have completed the I-9 form and presented acceptable documents to establish your identity and work authorization. Furthermore, please be advised that continued employment with the University is contingent upon the continuation of your authorization to work, as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
