Mill Energy Summary and Analysis
sponsored by:
TAPPI Steam, Power and Energy Management Committee
Thank you for participating in the Mill Energy Survey!
Purpose:
Process energy consumption is a function of feedstock, technology,
maintenance and operations.
This Summary and Analysis will provide an initial summary and periodic
reference to help Pulp and Paper engineers better understand the range and
potential of energy requirements for specific processes.
As Mill conditions and operations change, and process changes come on-
line, this Analysis will demonstrate the net change of energy consumption by
each process area.
TAPPI respects the confidential nature of each Mill's process information,
and this Analysis may be used for strictly internal purposes. To maintain
confidentiality, information is analyzed on a per-unit of production basis. The
Mill's actual production rates are not reported in the printouts. This may
provide an opporunity for Mill Engineers to compare energy consumption
data with peers.
Data Input Methods:
The following pages are designed be be completed interactively (point and
click on the spreadsheet).
Some general site information will need to be specified only once.
Some information can be provided by clicking the appropriate check box or
boxes. Click here to test!
In a few places, text entry is needed. Please place entry in the outlined block.
Most of the data requested is numerical, on a per-unit of production basis.
Recognizing that Mill data is frequently reported on a totalized basis for an
accounting period,
calculation templates (scratchpads) have been placed adjacent to
appropriate data fields.
These are provided to simplify conversion from typical Mill reporting units to
generic per-unit of production basis.
Mill specific data can be entered in the blue fields;
the conversion to per-unit of production is reported in green,
and arrows indicate where the converted data should be entered on the
survey form.
Page 1 3c34a2c2-5d12-49d2-889f-8f8c95b8b1c0.xls Introduction
Data Input Methods: (continued)
When there are two or more operating units, like Paper Machines, to be
reported, use the parallel columns on the scratchpad to evaluate each data
set.
Once the per-unit data is entered on the survey form, delete the entries from
the scratchpad to preserve Mill data confidentiality.
Results: Please select all TABS from Cover to Paper Machines, and print as a set.
