1. Company Overview

1.1 Business Overview
Zain Group is a Kuwait based multinational telecommunication company. The Group
provides comprehensive range of services from mobile network to data services to corporate
as well as individuals. Its business segments include mobile telecommunication and data
services. The Group also purchases, delivers, installs and maintains mobile phones and
paging systems. It is geographically present in 7 countries namely Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan,
Iraq, Lebanon, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia; Middle East; and in 15 sub-Saharan African
countries. The subsidiaries of the Group are Mobile Telecommunication Company (MTC)
International B.V, Mobile Telecommunication Company (Lebanon), Sudanese Mobile
Telephone Company Ltd., MTC Vodaphone (Bahrain), and Pella Investment Company
(Jordan).


1.2 Key Figures
Zain Group recorded revenues of $5,912 million (KWD1,677.27 million) during the fiscal
year ended 31st December 2007 up from $4,466 million (KWD1,297.41 million) during the
fiscal year ended 31st December 2006. In terms of US dollars, this translated to an increase
of 32.4 percent, which is mainly attributed to exchange rate fluctuations. In terms of
Kuwaiti Dinar, the increase in revenue was 29.3 percent.
The net profit of the company was $1,130 million (KWD342.66 million) in fiscal year 2007
up from $1,015 million (KWD313.82 million) recorded in fiscal year 2006, an increase of
11.3 percent in US dollars terms. In terms of Kuwaiti Dinar, the increase in net profit was
9.2 percent.
The Group’s total assets increased to $15,935 million (KWD4,367.00 million) in 2007 as
opposed to $12,137 million (KWD3,490.93 million) in 2006.
Zain Group employed 15,000 people in fiscal year 2007, compared to 12,700 in fiscal year
2006.
