1. Company Overview

1.1 Business Overview
Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) is a Philippine based
telecommunication service provider. PLDT caters to consumers, SMEs, and large
corporations in Philippines. The company provides local exchange services, national and
international long distance services, data and other network services through its fixed line
segment. It provides cellular & wireless broadband and satellite services through its wireless
business. Under ICT segment, PLDT provides Internet applications, IP based solutions,
multimedia content delivery, customer interaction services, knowledge processing solutions
and online gaming solutions through its subsidiaries. Its fixed line subsidiaries are PLDT
Clark Telecom Inc, Subic Telecommunications Company Inc, PLDT Global Corporation and
subsidiaries, PLDT-Maratel Inc, Bonifacio Communications Corporation, and Smart-ntt
Multimedia Inc. Its wireless subsidiaries are Smart Communications Inc and subsidiaries,
Pilipino Telephone Corporation, Telesat Inc, Aces Philippines Cellular Satellite Corporation
and Mabuhay Satellite Corporation. Its ICT subsidiaries are ePLDT Inc and subsidiaries,
ePLDT Ventus Inc and SPI Technologies Inc.


1.2 Key Figures
PLDT recorded revenues of $3,554.1 million (Php146,102 million) during the fiscal year
ended 31st December 2007 up from $2,811.1 million (Php137,304 million) during the fiscal
year ended 31st December 2006. In terms of US dollars, this translates to an increase of
26.4 percent, which is mainly attributed to exchange rate fluctuations. In terms of
Philippines Peso, the increase in revenue was 6.4 percent.
The net profit was $875.8 million (Php36,004 million) in fiscal year 2007 up from $719.4
million (Php35,138 million) in previous fiscal year, an increase of 21.7 percent in US dollars
terms. In terms of Philippines Peso, the increase in net profit was 2.4 percent.
The company‟s total assets witnessed a change to $3,878 million (Php159,414 million) in
fiscal year 2007 from $3,361.6 million (Php164,190 million) in fiscal year 2006.
PLDT employed 30,255 people in fiscal year 2007, up from 28,225 in fiscal year 2006.
