1. Market Size & Forecast
Document Management is the process of managing documents through their lifecycle—from
inception through creation, review, storage and dissemination, all the way to their
destruction. The basic technique used in document management systems is imaging, where
a scanned image of a document is saved in the relevant location for quick retrieval. Most
systems also provide a means for passing documents across a network. The growth in
document management has been fostered by the realization that despite the promise of the
"paperless office," many vital records are still generated and maintained in hardcopy form-
documents that should be secured electronically. Some of the many functions of Document
Management System include:
Integration
Document management systems attempt to integrate document management directly into
other applications, so that users may retrieve existing documents directly from the
document management system repository, make changes, and save the changed document
back to the repository as a new version, all without leaving the application.
Storage
Storage of the documents often includes management of those same documents; where
they are stored, for how long, migration of the documents from one storage media to
another (Hierarchical storage management) and eventual document destruction.
