Covidien Ltd. (Covidien) is engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of healthcare products for use in clinical and home settings. The Company operates its business through four segments: Medical Devices, Pharmaceutical Products, Imaging Solutions and Medical Supplies. The Company’s customers include hospitals, surgi-centers, imaging centers, alternate site facilities, drug manufacturers and major retailers worldwide. In November 2006, the Company’s Medical Devices segment acquired the remaining interest in Airox S.A. In April 2008, the Company sold its Retail Products business to an affiliate of First Quality Enterprises. Industry trends and drivers have a direct or indirect affect on IT spending of all companies operating within an industry. For example – increase in sourcing from low cost countries might influence Covidien to relook at their supply chains, resulting in selling opportunities for SCM solutions, collaboration tools etc. Thus, we can conclude that industry spending on any particular IT product or service is an important indicator of the criticality of that product or service for the industry. Based on the IT spend information available in ‘TechNavio’, we have computed a ‘criticality score’ for various IT products and services, for Covidien. Various company level developments and events are important indicators of selling opportunities and drive the sales of IT products and services. For example – an acquisition by Covidien might result in opportunities for IT migration and integration services. By tracking these sales drivers (using ‘TechNavio’), we have arrived at a demand score for each product and service. Through an in-depth analysis of industry trends and drivers and company level developments and events, we have made the ‘IT Selling Opportunities Map’ for hardware, software and IT services for Covidien. 1.1 Business Overview
Covidien Ltd. (Covidien) is engaged in the development, manufacture and sale of healthcare
products for use in clinical and home settings. The Company operates its business through

1.2 Key Figures
The group recorded revenues of $10,170 million during the fiscal year ended
30th September 2007, up from $9,647 million during the fiscal year ended 30th September
2006. This translates to an increase of 5.4 percent.
The net loss was $337 million during the fiscal year ended 30th September 2007, down
from the profit of $1,155 million during the fiscal year ended 30th September 2006.
The company’s total assets witnessed an increase to $18,328 million during the fiscal year
ended 30th September 2007 from $14,108 million during the fiscal year ended 30th
September 2006.
Covidien employed 44,000 people during the fiscal year ended 30th September 2007 up
from 43,000 during the fiscal year ended 30th September 2006.
