1. Company Overview



1.1 Business Overview

Headquartered in the United States, Abbott Laboratories deals in discovery, development,

manufacture, and sales of healthcare products. The company has four business segments as

Pharmaceutical Products, Nutritional Products, Diagnostic Products, and Vascular Products.

The Pharmaceutical Products segment includes manufacturing, marketing and sales of adult

and pediatric pharmaceuticals. The Diagnostic Products segment is involved in

manufacturing, marketing, and selling of diagnostic systems; and tests to the blood banks,

hospitals, and commercial laboratories. The Nutritional Products segment provides a range

of pediatric and adult nutrition products. The Vascular Products segment is involved in the

manufacturing, marketing, and sales of coronary, endovascular, and vessel closer devices.





1.2 Key Figures

Abbott Laboratories recorded revenues of $25,914.2 million during the fiscal year ended

31st December 2007 up from $22,476.3 million during the fiscal year ended 31st March

2006. In terms of US dollars, this translates to an increase of 15.3 percent.



The net profit was $3,606.3 million in fiscal year 2007 up from $1,716.8 million in fiscal

year 2006, an increase of 110.6 percent in US dollars terms.



The company’s total assets increased to $39,713.9 million in fiscal year 2007 from

$36,178.2 million in fiscal year 2006.

Abbott Laboratories employed 68,697 people in fiscal year 2007, up from 66,663 in fiscal

year 2006.
