Global EG Demand is Driven by Demand for Polyester Fiber and PET Resin in Asia
About 85% of the EG produced in Asia goes into the production of Poly Ethylene Terephthalate
(PET) which is used to prepare polyester fiber and PET resin. The demand in Asia is driven by
China and India. China has a high per capita consumption of polyester fiber. The per capita
consumption of polyester fiber in India is low but it is growing at a very fast pace. China and India
are also the world’s fastest growing economies in terms of GDP. This is helping in the growth of
packaging applications of PET.
