Penguin Group
The Penguin companies comprising the Penguin Group are collectively the second largest trade book publisher in the world, behind Random House. "The Penguin Group" is the name of the unincorporated division of the parent Pearson PLC that oversees these publishing operations. Its United States arm is Penguin Group (USA) Inc.; its British division is Penguin Books Ltd., the Irish division is Penguin Ireland, the New Zealand division is Penguin Group (NZ),the Indian division is Penguin Books,[1] the Australian division is Penguin Group (Australia); in Canada Penguin operates as a division of Pearson Canada Inc.; there are also Penguin Group (China) and Penguin Group (South Africa). Penguin Group (USA) Inc. was formed in 1996 as a result of the merger between Penguin Books USA and the Putnam Berkley Group. The newly formed company was originally called Penguin Putnam Inc., but in 2003 changed its name to Penguin Group (USA) Inc. to reflect the parent Pearson PLC’s grouping of all the Penguin companies worldwide under the supervisory umbrella of Pearson’s own Penguin Group divison. The different Penguin companies use many imprints, many of which used to be independent publishers.[1] Penguin Group (USA) Inc. also operates its own speaker’s bureau that books speaking engagements for many of the publisher’s authors. • Blue Hen Books • Boulevard • Claremont • Copp Clark • DAW Books • Dial Books for Young Readers • Dorling Kindersley • DreamWorks • Dutton • Dutton Children’s • Fig Tree • Firebird Books • Frederick Warne & Co • Gotham Books • Hamish Hamilton • Hamish Hamilton Children’s Books • Jam • Jove • Ladybird Books • Lantern • Mentor • Meridian • Michael Joseph • New American Library (NAL) • Roc Books • Signet • Onyx • Signet Classics • Paperstar • Penguin Books (includes Penguin Classics, Puffin Books) • Penguin Press • Price Stern Sloan • Puffin Books • Putnam (Not an imprint; bought by Penguin in 1996) • Razorbill • Reed Publishing • Reinhardt Books • Rendezvous Press • Riverhead Books • Rough Guides • Sentinel HC • Somerville House • Speak • Jeremy P.
