Rota
second southernmost of the Marianas Archipelago. It lies slightly northeast of the United States territory of Guam. Songsong village is the largest and most populated followed by Sinapalo village (Sinapalu). Rota was discovered by Spanish navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano in 1524, who claimed it together with the Mariana Archipelago for the Crown of Spain. Rota has diverse flora and fauna. The current mayor is Joseph S. Inos, a former senator of the CNMI.

Rota Island in Northern Mariana Islands. Rota is approximately 16.9-kilometers (10.5-miles) long by 4.8-kilometers (3-miles) wide. Its coastline is 61.6 kilometers (38.3 miles) long. The highest point on Rota is Mt. Manira which is 495 meters (1,625 ft) high. Rota is 76 kilometers (47 miles) south of Guam, and is 101 kilometers north(63 miles) of Tinian and is 117 kilometers north (73 miles) of Saipan.

• Rota High School (only high school on Rota) is located at the Liyo Area in Songsong village. • Rota Junior High School is located in Songsong village. • Rota Sinapalo Elementary School is located in Sinapalo village. Rota’s elementary school and junior high school (middle school) were formerly located in the same area and shared class buildings at Songsong village. After the new elementary school was built in Sinapalo, the Songsong village school ground was reopened as Rota Junior High. Rota has two private schools: • Eskuelan San Francisco De Borja (ESFDB): Prep-9th Grade (Located in Songsong Village) • Grace Christian Academy (GCA): Prep-9th Grade (Located in Sinapalu Village)
