SOLICITATION FOR NEW FUND MANAGER FOR EAST AFRICAN VENTURE CAPITAL FUND
Africa Venture Capital Association (AVCA) and the East African Development Bank (EADB)
are seeking applications from qualified individuals interested in taking a leadership role in a
new venture capital fund for East Africa.
This Fund will be the first of its kind, a $40 million equity-oriented venture capital fund. It will
invest $100,000 to $2 million equity capital in small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs)
including funds for (i) expansion of existing companies, (ii) modernization of existing
companies, and (ii) start-ups by exceptionally qualified entrepreneurs with well thought out
business plans. Such companies and entrepreneurs will be able to tap into this a new source
of equity capital without having to pledge all of their assets and incur debt service obligations.
The fund sponsors are seeking a proven leader around whom to develop a small professional
team to be based in East Africa. The key qualifications of the team leader would include (i) a
desire to pioneer a new concept, and (ii) a belief that with exceptionally hard work and
sensitivity to local conditions the inherent entrepreneurial spirit in the region can be tapped to
develop a profitable portfolio of successful SMEs.

5. Qualifications a) Experience in one or more or the following: i) demonstrated
entrepreneurial in growing new companies; ii) private equity
or venture capital or corporate finance, preferably related to
SMEs; iii) Board-level or senior management experience,
preferably in East Africa.
b) Advanced degree in relevant field such as: MBA, masters or
PhD in finance, accounting, marketing. Individuals with only
a Bachelor-level degree but with professional qualifications
and exceptional work experience may also be considered.
c) Evidence of understanding the factors that make for a
successful company, especially corporate governance
issues and financial discipline, and understanding of the
challenges of growing new companies in East Africa
