Comparison of Film Version and Book There was a film based on the book Animal Farm. The book of course was much more in depth, but the film allowed one to visualize the plot. Many differences occurred between the film and the book, however. In the book Old Major died peacefully in his sleep, however, in the movie Old Major falls violently out the barn’s hay window. Another difference was there was this dog, Jesse, in the movie. She was a major contributor to the revolution and finding the truth about the pigs’ dictatorship. In the book, though, Jesse was only mentioned as being the mother of the dogs Napoleon raised as attackers. In the movie she comes to Boxer’s, the cart horse, rescue when he was being whipped. Jesse knocked Mr. Jones over and began the revolution. That is not true to the book, where everyone began the revolution in the feed room. Many activities done in the book were the same as in the movie though. The pigs stole the apples and milk, saying it was for their health because they needed brain power to run the farm. Napoleon urinated on Snowball’s windmill designs and then ran him out of the farm using the scary dogs he raised. The chickens revolted by laying their eggs from the ceiling so Napoleon couldn’t sell them. The pigs began to wear Mr. Jones’ clothes and use the items people use. The animals, especially Boxer, worked hard to create the all-important windmill. Those are only a few of the comparisons, along with the main story line, that were the same in the book and in the movie. The differences mentioned in the beginning were also only a few contrasts of the movie and book.
