SPECIAL show times for this 90 minute film will be 10:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, February 23 and 24 . There will also be a 1:00 p.m. showing on Monday, February 25 . “Journey into the Great Unknown” brings to life the exciting expedition of Major John Wesley Powell as he explored the uncharted Green and Colorado Rivers in 1869. Legends, dire warnings, and tall tales only fueled Powell’s curiosity to explore these wild rivers “down to the great unknown” which included the “Grand Canyon” of the Colorado River. Award- winning cinematography takes viewers on a journey of rediscovery to experience the same shocking canyons, rapids, and rugged beauty, much of it still untamed and looking much as it did in 1869. This week's art display will be the paintings of Deloris Buchheit, of West Union, Iowa. Buchheit’s beautiful oils, watercolors, and silks include scenes of rolling hills, old barns, still- lifes, and the ever- changing seasons. For more information on the film festival and other upcoming events, visit us online at www.nps.gov/efmo or call the visitor center at (563) 873- 3491. Effigy Mounds National Monument's visitor center is located three miles north of Marquette, Iowa and 22 miles south of Waukon, Iowa on HWY 76. Admission to the festival is free. - npsrd th th rd th E X P E R I E N C E Y O U R A M E R I C A™ The National Park Service cares for special places saved by the American people so that all may experience our heritage.
