--- FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ---
General enquiries:
Can I apply as a group or collaboration with other artists?
- Yes.
Will there be only one successful applicant?
- Only one proposal will be selected for each three-month period. Shortlisted
applicants will be invited to apply for the next session.
What if I am not able to start the proposed project in July?
- Applicants should indicate their availability, if they cannot start in or around July
2007 then they will be considered for the next session.
Can the applicants be an organization which is not a person?
- The programme aims to nurture up and coming artists so we would like
applicants to apply as an individual or as a group of artists, not an organization.
Who is eligible to apply?
- Applicants must be a resident in Hong Kong and must be at least 18 years of age.
Is there an age limit?
- Applicants must be above 18.

Is it a residency programme in Hong Kong?
- As it is a local programme for artists who possess HKID card, the artist is
presumably based in Hong Kong. He/she will have access to a studio and or
office space if he/she needs it. However the programme fund can be used as
travel expenses if the proposed ideas require the applicant to travel aboard.
Can I submit more than one proposal?
- There is no limit to the number of proposals submitted from each applicant.
Is my artistic background important to the application?
- The experience of the artist(s) will not be the main factor for the selection. The
artistic background is only a reference for the jury panels to assess the
applicants’ artistic quality.
Can I still apply if I have had a solo exhibition?
- Yes, we will accept applications from those who have been involved in group or
solo exhibitions. Applicants must indicate the details of the exhibition in their CV.
and the selection panel will consider each individual case.
Eligible art forms:
Are performing arts eligible to apply?
- The programme is mainly for visual arts, but we accept performing arts elements.
Is a film / video production eligible to apply?
- Yes. Anything in visual format is accepted. If it is a single-channel film/video
production, the applicants are encouraged to consider and propose an innovative
way of presentation format, instead of showing the film/video in a movie theatre.
Grant allocation:
How much is the monthly allowance?
- Minimum of HK$15,000 per month. The purpose of the allowance is to cover the
artists living costs, so they can focus mainly on producing their work.
Can I purchase equipment related to the proposed project?
- Yes. The equipment will belong to the YAF after used.
Do I need to submit the proposed budget?
- We will need a general budget breakdown for our assessment, particularly for
proposals that cost more than the ceiling amount of the grant. The grant is to be
used for the execution of the art work(s) and specific publications. The sponsor
will be responsible for the cost of the exhibition/ venue rental, and the marketing
and publicity for the successful project
