The idea I had was to purchase a High Definition 3-D laser scanner, an innovative new surveying machine that captures geographical land features or physical data from structures and translates them into three-dimensional computer models, to use in a variety of ways throughout the impacted areas of Hurricane Katrina. Being an engineer from the New Orleans area, I have seen the need for companies and insurance agencies to quickly assess damaged areas for repairs and structural integrity, which this scanner could accomplish quite easily and with pinpoint accuracy. Since this machine is relatively new it is also quite costly, but it can allow for numerous jobs to be filled in less time than the traditional means of getting the same information to clients. The new Gateway convertible computer would aid in reducing the time spent collecting this data because of its exceptional battery life and wireless capabilities. Making useful notes with the inking features will also benefit the user
