FOR THE HISTORICAL HOTEL DANIELI IN VENICE
The three phases restoration works will end in 2010

The hotel will remain open throughout the restoration
Venice, 13 November 2007 - Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:HOT), managing
company of the Hotel Danieli, and Giuseppe Statuto, owner of the hotel, today announced the
commencement of a restoration project of the Hotel Danieli, one of the most celebrated of Venice’s
monuments. The project will develop in three phases, corresponding to the three different palaces
of the hotel, and will end in 2010.
During the entire restoration, the hotel will remain open, as the structure of the hotel, comprising of
three different buildings, allows the works to proceed separately without causing disturbance to the
The project has a dual goal: to restore the rich art and architectural elements of the three palaces,
the oldest of which dates back to the XIV century, whilst incorporating new state of the art
technology, facilities and comfort in order to satisfy all the requests of an international clientele.
Gruppo Statuto acquired the Hotel Danieli in 2005 and today, thanks to a 45 million euro
investment, aims to re-launch the property internationally in the luxury market.
“A palace needs to be valued for its history and its integration in the social and architectural
environment to which it belongs, and this is even more important in a cultural city like Venice,”
states Giuseppe Statuto, Owner, Statuto Group. “The works that start today required not only our
real estate experience and knowledge, but also the ability to select a team of professionals able to
offer their expertise required to restore The Danieli to its former glory.”
“We are proud to be able to continue to elevate the fame of the Danieli, one of the jewels in our
The Luxury Collection portfolio, with a major restoration project that will both respect the hotel’s
unique historical and artistic importance in Venice as well as enable us to offer our discerning and
cosmopolitan clientele a hotel experience with all the modern comforts and state of the art
technology.” Said Robert Koren, Vice President and Area Director Italy & Central Mediterranean,
Starwood Hotels & Resorts. “And all this thanks to the collaboration we have with Gruppo Statuto
that goes far beyond Venice, involving forthcoming projects such as the new W Hotel scheduled to
open beginning of 2009 in Milan”.
The world renowned architect Jacques Garcia, who designed some of the most refined examples
of hotel elegance in the world, including Hotel Costes in Paris; Le Majéstic in Cannes, Le
Métropole in Monte Carlo and La Mamounia in Marrakech, has been selected to interpret the
history of this iconic hotel.
“As a first step we wanted to evaluate the origins and the history of these palaces,” says Jacques
Garcia. “The project we present today both enhances the typical Venetian themes and enables us
to truly integrate the beauty of these palaces that make up The Danieli.”
The first phase of the restoration will involve the Danielino Palace with its 81 rooms and suites, the
Marco Polo meeting rooms and the world renowned Terraza restaurant with its astonishing views
of the lagoon. By spring 2008 a large part of the palace will once again be available to the hotel
guests who will be able to experience the new state of the art technology, a more comfortable
environment and the new rooftop restaurant.
During the summer season 2008 the works will involve the ground floor where a new boutique spa
will be created including treatment rooms and a covered swimming pool, a unique facility for
Venice city centre. The Danielino restoration will end by September 2008.
