STUDENT VISA CHECKLIST (JULY 2010)
A guide for all Saudi Arabian applicants wanting to study in New Zealand
INZ(Dubai) Branch is the receiving office for anyone intending to study in New Zealand from
certain countries in the Middle East including Saudi Arabia. This checklist is for these students
whilst all other students should refer to the generic Student Visa checklist for Dubai.
It is important that you provide all the relevant information requested below so we can accept and
process your application promptly. If any of the following are not received, the application may not
be accepted for assessment. A visa officer may ask for additional documents during the processing
of the application.
All documents not in English must be translated by a translation service.

1. APPLICATION FORMS:
An Application to Study in New Zealand (NZIS 1012) must be fully completed in English.
Answer each question on the form and continue on a separate sheet if necessary. It is important
you sign the form. If you have a government scholarship you must also complete a KSA Family
Supplementary form and your KSA CV form. You or your agent should send this to our office
electronically to: firstname.lastname@example.org which we will request after we receive your application.
2. APPLICATION FEE:
The application fee is a processing fee and is NON-REFUNDABLE regardless of the outcome of your
Acceptable payment methods:
1. CASH – AED490 if you are paying in person
2. CREDIT CARD – AED580 if you are sending a passport or any original documents with your
application. We will then courier these directly back to you as soon as your application is
decided. Or AED490 if you will collect your original documents in person.
If you are paying using the credit card of someone other than the principal applicant you
must attach a copy of the passport photo page and a copy of both sides of the credit card.
3. BANK DRAFT – USD190 (including bank clearance fees) if you are sending a passport or
any original documents with your application. We will then courier these directly back to
you as soon as your application is decided. Or US$165 (including bank clearance fees) if
you will collect your original documents in person. Payment in US dollars must be in the
form of a bank draft. DO NOT SEND US DOLLARS CASH. All Bank drafts must be drawn
from a US bank, made payable to the “New Zealand Immigration Service”.
One recent passport sized photo (must be less than 12 months old) person must be included in
4. PASSPORT OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT:
Passports must be valid for 3 months beyond intended date of departure from New Zealand. Please
ensure your passport is valid for the time you wish to study in New Zealand e.g. four years for
those going to study degree courses. We will accept a full copy of all pages of the passport, in
place of the original. If you have previously issued expired passports full copies of these must also
be submitted. The copies must be clear and not altered in any way (i.e. the copies should be
5. ACCEPTANCE LETTER
You must provide a letter showing you have been accepted into an NZQA-approved course and
educational institution in New Zealand. The offer must specify the name of the course, the
minimum time required for completion and the annual fee for the full course.
6. EVIDENCE OF FUNDS
You must show payment of your course fees or exemption from course fees. (i.e. either a receipt
showing payment of the course fee, or a notice of award of a scholarship).
If you are a private student and your course is 36 weeks or more, we need to see evidence that
you have access to $NZ 10,000 in your own name, or a completed Financial Undertaking for a
Student form (NZIS 1014).
If you are a Government sponsored student, we need to see the letter from the Ministry of Higher
Education for example stating you have been awarded a scholarship, and the scholarship should
state what it covers e.g. living allowance, fees, etc and the names of any family members also
covered by the scholarship.
7. A GUARANTEE OF SUITABLE ACCOMMODATION
You should also provide proof of suitable accommodation arrangements in New Zealand from either
(a) the institution offering them a place, or (b) another person prepared and able to provide
8. MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
You must have an acceptable standard of health. If you will be in New Zealand for more than 12
months, you must have a Medical and Xray certificate (NZIS 1007) completed by an authorised
Panel Doctor. A list of panel doctors can be found on our website on
9. POLICE CERTIFICATE
You must be of good character. If you are 17 years old or older and intend to stay in NZ for more
than 24 months, you must provide us with a police certificate from Saudi if you are a Saudi
national and any other country you have resided in for 5 years or more.
To get a Saudi Police Certificate, you must contact the New Zealand Embassy in Riyadh with a
copy of your bio data page from your passport and a copy of your ID. This can be sent by DHL or
you can do this in person. The cost of this is SR160 as a return DHL service. The Embassy issues
a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh. On receiving the Embassy letter the
applicant needs to go to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Riyadh so that they can stamp it
(Verifying the Embassy signature and Seal). Once this has been done, the student can then
approach the Directorate of Saudi Arabian Civil Police (SACP) for their police clearance certificate.
10. For accompanying family members of students
If you are also applying to have family members go with you to New Zealand you must provide the
appropriate application forms for them, application fees, passport photos, passports, medicals,
police clearance and evidence of their relationship to you. This can be in the form of either your
Saudi family registration booklet, or marriage certificate and birth certificates. Further information

11. For Chaperones of female students:
If you wish to accompany a female scholarship student to New Zealand and are not intending to
study, you must speak to the Education Attaché at the New Zealand Embassy. If you intend to
study as well, you must apply for a Student visa and provide all the requirements. Please discuss
this with your agent or contact the Office of the Education Attaché at the New Zealand Embassy.
11. Processing Times:
Processing time is 21-30 days unless we require further information or have to refer your medical
certificate to New Zealand.
