privileged to have your child here with us. Along with this welcome letter is information to help you
become familiar with our learning center. If you have any questions, please be sure to ask one of our

“Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord: and the fruit of the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the
hand of a mighty man; so are children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of
them: they shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate”
Psalm 127: 3-5 (King James Version).

      We Believe:
 In the verbal inspiration of the Bible.

 In one God eternally existing in three persons: namely, the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

 That Jesus Christ is the only begotten Son of the Father, conceived of the Holy Ghost, and
born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus was crucified, buried, and raised from the dead. That He
ascended to heaven and is today at the right hand of the Father as the Intercessor.

 That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that repentance is commanded of
God for all and necessary for forgiveness of sins.

 That justification, regeneration, and the new birth are wrought by faith in the blood of Jesus

 In sanctification subsequent to the new birth, through faith in the blood of Christ; through the
Word; and by the Holy Ghost.

 Holiness to be God's standard of living for His people.

 In the baptism with the Holy Ghost subsequent to a clean heart.

 In speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance and that it is the initial evidence of
the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

 In water baptism by immersion, and all who repent should be baptized in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.

 Divine healing is provided for all in the atonement.

 In the Lord's Supper and washing of the saints' feet.

 In the pre-millennial second coming of Jesus. First, to resurrect the righteous dead and to
catch away the living saints to Him in the air. Second, to reign on the earth a thousand years.

 In the bodily resurrection; eternal life for the righteous; and eternal punishment for the

schools are closed – we will be closed. There will be no discounts on tuition for inclement weather

Parent Involvement
PLEASE volunteer! We love parent involvement! If you would like to serve as room mom or dad,
please let your child’s teacher know. We send home an incredible amount of resources and
information via papers in your child’s cubby. It is your responsibility to check your child’s cubby on
a daily basis and TAKE HOME the items it contains. Many parents miss out on important dates and
wonderful memories because they simply do not check the cubbies. Your child’s teacher would love
to see you and talk with you, even if they have children clinging to them, they have time for adult

Birthdays & Celebrations
At Good Shepherd Learning Center we will observe special days with activities and treats. You will
be asked to bring in specific items for your child’s class and to participate in the event.
You are welcome to bring in treats, decorations, games, etc. for your child’s birthday as long as there
is enough for everyone. Please discuss the party in advance with your child’s teacher so they can plan
accordingly and inform you of any allergies, etc.
Please note, we do not celebrate Halloween. Our church sponsors a Fall Festival as an alternative to
Halloween and we will have Fall Festival parties in our classroom. Children are not allowed to dress
up for this party but we will have a special theme such as Silly Hat Day, Backwards Day or Wear
Your PJ’s Day. We appreciate your compliance.

Proper Dress
Please dress your child appropriately for the day’s weather and play. Children are required to have
outdoor time no matter the weather and they need to be dressed accordingly.

Arrival & Departure Times
Our hours are 6:30am-6:30pm, however; so that classrooms are not interrupted during lunch or
naptime, we ask that if you are bringing your child in late that they are in class no later than 10:30am.
If you cannot get them here by 10:30am, we ask that you wait to bring them in after 1:30pm when all
classrooms have completed their naptime.

Signing In & Out
You are required to bring your child in the building everyday and clock them into the computer
system. You will be given an id code for the computer and it is your responsibility to clock them in
and out every day. Please do not allow your child to touch the computers!

Children will only be released to persons indicated on their enrollment form. If you are unable to
pick up your child, you must call and FAX to us the name of the person picking up your child. We
will ask for a copy of their identification. We will not release children unless we have this

Meals and Snacks
Breakfast, lunch and an afternoon snack are included in the cost of your weekly tuition. Monthly
menus are posted on the bulletin board at the entrance to the building as well as on our website. We
will post any changes on the bulletin board.
We follow a strict mealtime schedule. If you are unable to bring your child before the scheduled
time, you must feed them before bringing them into the center. Please do not bring Kid’s Meals from
fast food restaurants unless you plan on bringing for the entire class. It is not fair to the other
children. Children who choose not to eat will not be served again until the next scheduled meal or
snack time.

Medical & Other Emergencies
Minor cuts and abrasions while at the daycare will receive proper care, specifically; they will be
washed with soap and water and properly bandaged. Injury and treatment will be noted on an
Accident Report signed by the child’s teacher and director.
If a medical emergency arises we will contact a parent or person emergency contact list first unless
doing so endangers the child’s life. In that case, we will take the necessary steps, putting the child
first (calling 911, doctor, poison control, etc.) then we will contact you. If need be, your child will be
transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital and we will contact you from there.
We perform random, monthly fire drills to ensure that all teachers and children know how to exit the
building and where to go during such emergency. In addition, we perform seasonal “duck and cover”
drills. In the event that there is an emergency at our facility that requires complete evacuation, (gas
leak, etc.) we have made arrangements with Life’s Hope Baptist Church located at 3360 Hicks Road
where we will all congregate and contact all parents from their location.

Rest Time
All children under the age of five are required by state law to have a rest time. Each class has a
posted rest time. Please do not bring your child to their class during rest time, please wait until after
rest time is over to bring them if necessary.

Behavior Goals
At Good Shepherd Learning Center we try to stress two main patterns of behavior: respect for other
people, respect for God’s house. As a result, we will not allow hitting, pushing, biting, kicking,
bullying or pinching other children or adults. Obscene language is not allowed. To reinforce these
behaviors, we use the following procedures:

 Explain the rules with plenty of reminders and lots of positive reinforcement

 Redirection and “time-out” are the only methods of discipline used

 Time out is implemented 1 minute times the child’s age

 Children are encouraged to apologize to the offended party

 If something more serious arises, a Behavior Report will be sent home & the possibility of
expulsion from the center can occur if negative behavior continues

   Potty Training
We begin potty training in our 2-year old class. We will only reinforce what you are already
doing at home. During this process, teamwork with parents and teachers as well as patience are
needed! Children will not be moved up to the 3-year old class until they are completely potty
trained without an accident for at least one month.

Please do not bring your child to the center if they are sick. Masking your child’s symptoms with
over the counter medication (Tylenol, Robutussin, etc.) before care will be grounds for
termination of our contract for care with you. The Health department discourages the admittance
of any child into a center that exhibits the following symptoms:

        Unusual rash

 Fever over 100 (oral), 99 (armpit) or 101 (rectal) – child needs to be fever free for 24
           hours before returning to care

 Runny nose with colored discharge

        Excessive coughing

 Diarrhea or vomiting within last 24 hours

 Discharge from ears and eyes

 Lice – children must be lice and nit free before returning to care

 Any communicable disease listed on communicable disease chart
We reserve the right to refuse care to any child showing signs of any of these symptoms. If your
child becomes ill while in our care, we will contact you to come and pick up your child. They will be

isolated from their class so they do not share their germs. You will need to pick them up within one
hour of our phone call. Children must be free of all symptoms for 24 hours before returning.

Annual Registration Fees & Summer Leave of Absence
Every January each family will be charged $50.00 annual registration fee.
If you are going to be taking your child out of the center for the summer, you will be charged a
$50.00 reservation fee to hold your child’s spot for the fall.

Enrollment Cancellation
Tuition is for places reserved and not attendance. A (2) week written notice is required for
termination of your reserved space. The written notice must be signed by the Director or the
Assistant Director. The (2) week notice will begin from the date signed by the Director or the
Assistant Director. You will be responsible to pay tuition in full for (2) weeks after leaving GSLC
without a written notice. To avoid weekly tuition charges please give a written notice and have it

We reserve the right to update this handbook at any time but will give you written updates in your
child’s cubby. Parents are required by state law to provide us with any updates on address, phone
number, emergency contact information, etc. While we cannot cover everything that can possibly
happen on a daily basis, we hope that this handbook has been informative to you. Please see any
administrative staff member with questions.
