                                  January 25 & 26, 2008

The meeting was held at Madison Area Tech - Truax Campus. The meeting on Friday was
called to order at 12:31 p.m.

Colleges Present: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Resource Director,
Blackhawk, Chippewa Valley, Fox Valley, Gateway, Madison Area, Milwaukee Area, Moraine
Park, Nicolet Area, Northeast Wisconsin, Southwest Wisconsin, Western, and Wisconsin
Indianhead

Introductions: Everyone in the room stated who they were, which school they were from,
and what their favorite Christmas Present was.

Warm-up Activity: Shelley McNeely ran a short warm up activity.

Approval of the Minutes: There were a few changes needed on the secretary’s report.
Those were changed and accepted as changed. Christina Rainey, WITC, made a motion to
accept the minutes with changes. Eric Maatz, WTC, seconded the motion.

Treasurer’s Report: Dan Fishbeck said that the checking account is now in his and Jan’s
name. He went over the treasurer’s report. There were questions as to why there was such a big
balance in the savings account and why it wasn’t being used. It is there as a safety reserve.
There was also talk again about possibly putting some money in a money market. Keith Van
Rossum, FVTC, made a motion to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Bre Flattmeyer, WTC,
seconded the motion.

Officer Updates: The Webmaster, Steve Olcott, was released from his position.

Committee Reports: The Bylaws Committee went through all the proposed changes to the
Bylaws. There was some discussion on the changes. Brandon Davis and Rachel Weyers of the
Legislative Affairs Committee shared a “draft” of the February Legislative Seminar position
paper. They asked that every one go back to their school and find out how many students
actually get a WHEG. Norman Gaulin, WTC, made a motion to keep all four topics in the
position paper. Keith Van Rossum, FVTC, seconded the motion. Motion passed.

WSG Legislative Seminar: Each of the committees gave an update on their progress.
Josh Kerlin, WITC, made a motion to give the Decorations Committee an extra $100. Kyle
Guthrie, FVTC, seconded the motion. Motion passed. Christina Rainey, WITC, made a motion
to give the Entertainment Committee an extra $300. Clay Rost, NWTC, seconded the motion.
Motion passed.

Advocating for WSG: Edna Early and Vanessa Pickar talked about how to advocate for
WSG to the Legislators in February. Jerry O’Sullivan, MATC Advisor, spoke about how to tell
your story. Some of the advisors did a skit on how to not speak with the legislators. There was
another skit performed on how to speak with the legislators. The students broke into groups of
four or five people to conduct a mock meeting with a legislator.

The Friday meeting was adjourned at 5:39 p.m.


The Saturday meeting was called to order at 8:48 a.m.

Speaker: Paul Butrymowicz talked about “Leadership in Film”. He showed several clips
from different films that illustrated good leadership skills versus poor leadership.

Governor Reports:
        BTC-they want to raise $1 million for a transportation safety center, it has multiple uses
like police, firefighters, paramedics, driving training, teen behind the wheel training, point
reduction simulator, and motorcycle training, they had a constitution day with Dr. Kent Kieth,
Mike Sheridan, Kickson, and President Dan Clancy
        CVTC-trying to get student involvement to build a new student resource center
        FVTC-donated $25,000 to UW Fox Valley for the new gym floor, their basketball team
took first place this past weekend in a tournament, they sponsored a packer tailgate party, their
President of Student Government resigned and has been replaced, they will be sending 5 people
to NACA Nationals in St. Louis, their winter semester kickoff went well, proposed plans for a
recreation and conference center building is underway
        GTC-trying to get intramural sports back at the school
        MATC-the ticketing is now done in house instead of done by the police department,
working on textbooks, school involvement, smoking on campus, will get a solar heating transit
center for the disabled
        MATC-u-pass is in effect as of Monday, opened extensions on the bus routes,
textbook rentals, encouraging voting, community involvement, proclamation to send thank
you’s to Governor Doyle for vetoing the tax levy
        MPTC-nothing new to report
        NTC-had a comedian not show up, their one hour of connect time on Tuesdays will be
taken away, have a magician coming, their clubs have a lot of events going on as well, their BPA
is preparing for state

        SWTC-had a speaker on legal issues with face book and my space, they voted in two new
clubs
        WCTC-might possibly go to a tobacco free campus, they had a survey sent out but
haven’t received the results yet, they might turn their game room into a coffee shop, they still
need to have it approved at the state level
        WTC-adding a residence hall and wellness center, they will be talking to the legislators
before they come down in February to get prepared for the seminar, they are having a band-a-
thon
        WITC-had a leadership conference in Wisconsin Dells, they are having a biggest looser
competition

WSG Website: The new webmaster was introduced. Her name is Shari Prag. Clay Rost,
NWTC, made a motion to spend $150 to rebuild the website. Tammy Murphy, MATC,
seconded the motion. Motion passed. Kyle Guthrie, FVTC, made a motion to expand the
Webmaster position to Public Relations and to expand duties to include being at every meeting,
taking pictures, conducing interviews, and putting everything on the website for additional
compensation of $100/meeting plus mileage. Hotel and food costs would be approved by the
WSG President. Keith VanRossum, FVTC, seconded the motion. Motion passed.

Tammy Murphy, MATC, made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Emi Natvig, MATC, seconded
the motion. Motion passed.

The Saturday meeting was adjourned at 10:35 a.m.
